Burnt Offerings my first casualty

Rise of the Runelords

So I had a new player who is new to roleplaying make up a hlaf orc barbarian from Belkzen. At first he was kind of looked down on by the people of Sandpoint, and he stayed in a stable with a horse at the Rusty Dragon. After saving the town from the goblin raid, he was seen now as a hero. He went to the fatman's Feedbag hearing that it was a rough tavern. The Varisians in the bar snickered at him for being an orc, and he proceeded to spit in his beer and dump it over someones head. A fight ensued and they subdued him and threw him out of the bar. Little did he know he was messing with the local Scarni.

He waited for the guy to leave, and when hi target and 3 other Varisians walked out he threw a rock and hit the guy in the head knocking him out. He then ran to the sherriff for safety but the didn't follow.

The went on the boar hunt and Alderrin bought the orc the horse he was staying with who he then named Buttercup. Later a Scarni rogue approached another othe players who was also a Scarni rogue out of Magnimar and asked him to keep hi orc friend under control.

When the orc went out to the stables again, he found his horse dead, and in a rage went to burn down the fatmans feedbag. He was killed in the ensuing fight, but heused a hero point to stay alive. He was now unconscious and tied up in a sheet in the basement.

When the scarni player went to look for him at the Feedbag, he ended up helping the local Scarni dismember the body. End of character.

The scarni player is now in good with the local mob, and my new player starts a new character!!!

Sorry for the poor spelling type on my ipad...

Grand Lodge

So... what do you want us to do? Give advice on avoiding things like this in the future? Fun builds that work with the group dynamic better?

Also, learn the difference between "the" and "they". It makes it a load easier to figure out what you're trying to communicate.

Actually, I didn't want you to do anything, I was just sharing an exciting and unusual side story. As for the and they, I know the difference, maybe you should refer to the last line of my post about the spelling. I will fix it when I get in front of my computer!

1 person marked this as a favorite.

For some reason I can't edit my original post now that I'm on my computer, so I will go ahead and rewrite it here to make it easier to read: Please note I embellished on the story a little bit towards the end mostly.

So I had a new player who is new to roleplaying make up a half orc barbarian from Belkzen to begin the campaign. At first he was kind of looked down on by the people of Sandpoint, and unlike the other players who had rooms at the Rusty Dragon, he stayed outside in the stables with a horse.

After saving the town from the goblin raid, he was seen now by the townsfolk as a hero. As the players went about doing different thing with their downtime, the orc went to the Fatman's Feedbag hearing that it was a rough tavern and he thought this might be his kind of place to hang out. The Varisians in the bar snickered at him for being an orc when he walked in the door. Out of anger he threw over a table and he proceeded to spit in his beer and dump it over the head of the Varisian who had made the comment. A fight ensued and they subdued the orc and threw him out of the bar onto the street. Little did he know he was messing with the local Scarzni.

He waited for the Varisian who he started the fight with to leave the bar late at night, and when his target and 3 other Varisians walked out he threw a rock and hit the guy in the head knocking him out. He then ran to the sheriff for safety but the didn't follow.

The group went on the boar hunt and along with a number of other horses for the other players, Alderrin bought the orc the horse from the stall he was staying in who he then named Buttercup. He became very attached to Buttercup, and when they offered him a free room at the Rusty Dragon he decided to continue sleeping in the stall with his horse.

Later a Scarni rogue approached another of the players who was also a Scarzni rogue out of Magnimar from the group known as the Tower Girls, and the local mobster asked this player to try to keep his orc friend under control.

When the orc went out to the stables again, he found his horse dead, and in a rage went to burn down the Fatmans Feedbag. He started lighting the outside of the building with a torch, and when people came out running from inside they drew their swords. He was killed in the ensuing fight, but he used a hero point to stay alive. He was now unconscious and tied up in a sheet in the basement.

The player characters after a day and a half were wondering where the orc disappeared to but the rouge of the group had a good idea. He told the others,' I think I know what happened to him this is family business I will go and take care of it."

The rogue player went down to the Feedbag inquiring what might have happened to the orc. They told him the orc overstepped the line and he is gone. The player asked,"did you take him out?" They replied that he was dead. The player asked to see the body but they told him he was long gone which was a half truth. The player rolled a successful sense motive and kept asking where the body really was and what they did with it. The local mob told him that they sink the bodies around here and that he was ready to be dumped out at sea.

The player said well where I come from we dismember the bodies, I would like to see him to make sure he is really dead. They agreed saying, " OK if you want to see the body then you can, but then we are doing it your way and you are going to help us."

They proceeded to the basement where the player rogue picked up a saw and proceeded to dismember his fellow group member. I awarded him 200xp for good roleplaying since his character didn't really know the orc well and was more loyal to the mob.

The scarni player is now in good with the local mob, and my new player starts a new character!!!
