Help me build my Savage Technologist!

Hey all! My friend is running this game soon for a few of us, and I was thinking about playing a Savage Technologist. I like how the archetype adds in some useful skills (diplomacy, knowledge: local) and how Rage adds to your dex and strength.

That said, I am not familiar with barbarians, and I need some advice on feats and rage powers. Even though it's not optimized, I'd like to wield a sword in one hand and a sweet high-tech firearm in the other :)

What do you folks suggest?


Just a warning, I personally wouldn't take Extra Rage. Six extra rounds sounds good but barbarians can do just fine without having to rage. I'm running a game of Iron Gods and one of my players, who is a lashunta barbarian (Savage Technologist), has only raged for a few rounds over three sessions and has done just fine.

The scent rage power is pretty good, but Gearbreaker is good too, especially for Iron Gods. Once per round while raging you can ignore an amount of a construct's hardness equal to your barbarian level! Of course, good feats include Power Attack, Toughness and Cleave, although I'm sure many others can provide better insight on good feats beyond those base ones.

The first thing you should do is ask yourself what concept you want to emulate within the savage technologist barbarian framework.

Personally, I went with the following concept:
A Numerian Kellid smith who wants to break the hold of the Technic League on Numeria (and on technological items). Artisan (Craft (Armor)) and Skymetal Smith traits, Heart of the Fields alternate racial trait (for the +1/2 per level bonus to Craft (Mechanical) and the ability to ignore one fatigue effect per day), Point Blank Shot and Power Attack feats; planning on mostly taking the Elemental rage powers and Technologist at 3rd, Master Craftsman (Craft (Weapons)) at 5th, Craft Magic Arms and Armor at 7th, and Craft Technological Arms and Armor at 9th.

Probable weapons at high levels: a small keen adamantine chainsaw and a high-tech pistol of some sort (enhanced with magic); with full BAB and the rage bonuses to both Str and Dex, I'm willing to accept the penalties for TWF (-6 chainsaw/-4 pistol).


you now what would be fun?

somehow being able to mix titan mauler jotun grip in and being able to fire a big broomstick one handed in a TWF extravaganza!

Im not a big fan of laser weapons but something like a robotech GU-11 Gun pod blazing slugs and dropping brass everywhere would be a blast with an off hand axe or sword.
