Recruiting Replacement player for Only War Campaign

Recruitment

Hi all,

I'm running a campaign based on the "Old Soldiers" scenario that was published with the GM Screen for Only War. Our Heavy Weapon guy's player has gone missing. He has been missing for a while now, so I thought it's about time for him to be replaced.

Here's the link to his old profile He should have a total of 2850xp which means if you want you can change his speciality (Hammer of the Emperor Rules) you can

The main campaign link is here from which you can get to the gameplay thread and the wiki

So far the squad has moved behind enemy lines having an unfortunate incident with friendly fire from an artillery unit of the Mordian Iron Guard and a run in with some overly aggressive local wildlife on their way. They found the remains of the last mission behind enemy lines, though there seemed to be some bodies missing and the damage seemed to be done by non-imperial weaponry.
Using information the previous team attained they found the enemies supply route and has spent the following weeks ambushing every patrol that passed by that region until eventually a supply convoy came.
The attack was long winded and 3 members of the squad were seriously injured (2 PCs and 1 comrade) but they got vague directions to the location of Commander Harvax Scarus from captured enemy troops. They are currently counting captured supplies and repairing one of the captured vehicles.

So anyone interested please post here and we can talk about getting you on board

I have some interest, but I've only really played Dark Heresy. How different is Only War?

It's the same core mechanic and the same stat block with some prity sizable sweaping changes eg:

- All skills are basic skills except specialist skills (eg the lore skills)
- Untrained (or basic) skill tests are at a -20 rather than at half
- Single Shot is at +10 and is a half action
- Semi-Auto is at +0 and is a half action
- Full auto is at -10 and is a half action
- Spending xp is based on the aptitude system where you match how many aptitudes your character shares with the atribute/skill/talent to figure our how much something costs

You'll need access to the book to spend your experience. Otherwise, I'm OK with teaching you as we go. If you can remember the few points I wrote above you'll avoid the major pitfalls.

I guess this one is already filled, but if another opening pops up in the future, I would be happy to step in.
I've been hoping to get a chance to play Only war for a time.

It has not. Jon never got back to me. I guess not having the book was a bit too much of a worry for him.

Have you looked over the character? Are you happy enough to take him over?

Just to make sure here, I've only glanced at Hammer of the emperor so far, but what you said about the speciality...
It would in other words be ok to change him into a sharpshooter for example? It might work since his best ability is already Balistic, but if you prefer I can keep him a heavy until next time.

At 2500 experience points you can change your character's specialty to any other core specialty or any specialty in the Hammer of the Emperor book. If you don't, you get a free +5 in any characteristic you have an aptitude in.

Yes you could go with sharp shooter if you wish. Changing his specialty will mean he trades in his old specialty's weapons/equipment next time he gets to camp though. Keep that in mind.

Here is an idea I'd like to run by you and see what you think.
Since Heavy weapons guy has been missing for a bit, it wouldn't be too hard to claim that he has been a bit negligent in his duties, but since the regiment needs every man, instead of outright exceution he might be sentanced to say 6 weeks of R.I.P (Retraining, indoctrination and punishment detail).
If the mission is succesful, he might be moved from P to R as a reward.
And during the training he might be proven to have a natural affinity to be a scout from his hunter days.
(Noticed there already WAS a sharpshooter and didn't want to step on any toes).
That way he can switch to scout and have an ingame reason for it.

The background of the regiment lends itself quite happily to Scout, so you don't even need to jump through so many hoops to get there. If you want to switch speciality you can just do it!

If you're happy to go with that please make a duplicate alias with the name "Cormaeg MacCamon". Feel free to spend his excess xp up to 2500 as a heavy and then switch over to scout for the last 350.
Then you can introduce yourself to everyone in the discussion thread!

I should be done with it all tomorrow, still got some work left to do today.

No worries, just say hello on the discussion thread when you are ready.

Ok, I'm done, have a look and see if it is ok.
I took the Stabilize order and raised his toughness twice which put him at exactly 2500.
As a scout, I took Trade Armorer and Agility simple.

Mind you, I took Trade Armorer because I'm sure I read somewhere that you can use it to improve poor quality weapons to common, if that isn't true and only in my mind, I'll probably change that (and the free aptitude for having agility twice to something else instead of Intelligence).

I'll have a rummage for it when I have a bit of time.

For now I'm hapy to go with that if you want to post on the discussion thread
