Monsters as PC's

Rules Questions

So, how do monster ability scores translate over to PC's? We've been using the old 3.5 method, cause we can't find anything in the books about how to handle it in Pathfinder.

You're getting into houserule territory, but there is something in either the bestiary or maybe CRB that touches on figuring out stat blocks. I want to say you subtract 10 or 11 from the score (or if below that you are looking at penalties), but am not 100% sure on this.

I'm pretty sure Skylancer's right here: I've read somewhere that all Monster scores start off from a base 10,10,10,11,11,11 allocation before racial adjustments are factored in. Exactly how the 10's and 11's are allocated is anyone's guess, I'm afraid.

It's somewhere in the books, but I can't seem to find it either.

The 10s are in the ability scores with an even number, the 11s in those with an uneven number.

For NPC monsters with class levels it says "Creatures with class levels receive +4, +4, +2, +2, +0, and –2 adjustments to their ability scores, assigned in a manner that enhances their class abilities."
Which should result in the same as reducing ability scores by -10 or -11 and using the remainder as a racial ability modifier.

I thought that's what the Advanced Race Guide is for nowadays?

Otherwise you take the racial HD as indicator how many "monster levels" (lacking the correct term here) the creature has and then head over to the Monster Advancement (scroll down to Adding Class Levels) section in the Bestiary, where it is explained how to apply class levels to monsters.

Ruyan.

Thanks Skylancer. That's what we'd been doing, and I thought that was how it worked. Just wanting to double check.
