Thornkeep, The Accursed Halls part 1-2

GM Discussion

For those who have run the adventures, is there a problem for players not playing Accursed Halls part 1, and starting with part 2? (The convention running the events has them split)

Its a module length (as part of Thornkeep), I assume they are splitting it as the module would require more that one convention slot (ie Im guessing they are 4 hour slots). Thus part 1 and part 2 and both part of the same running. You wont be allowed to play part 2 without playing part 1 and vice versa. It ran 6 hours when I played it, so you are likely to get some free time there.

A logical signup system would sign you up automatically for both sessions if you had entered one of them.

In general, conventions schedule these modules for 2 slots; so they are listed as part 1 and part 2. Usually, they are not seated separately, though. It *can* be done, but is sub-optimal. Whether they do or not, is up to the GM and/or the convention coordinator. Contact them, and I'm sure they will help you.

Ya the reason I ask is because part one is friday night, with part 2 being saturday morning 8 hours later...

Yes, checking with the coordination staff is probably your best bet, then. While I've never scheduled them that way, I could totally see doing it, especially if the slot on Friday night is the last one of the day, and part 2 in the first slot of the morning. Since it is the same group, they may just stop when people are tired, and start where they leave off in the morning.

You only get to play the module once for credit; my suggestion is sign up for both parts so you get to play the whole thing.

I can't make the first part, so I guess I won't sign up for Accursed halls at all. Is it bad form at a Con to do 4/5 of thornkeep??

@Andrea: Accursed Halls is a Tier 1-2 module, so can be replayed any number of times with 1st level PCs for credit, only once with a 2nd level PC for credit.

@Chris: Shouldn't be an issue, especially since there is a level gap in the series. Each level is a standalone, even if there are light threads given for access to the level below in each of them.

I recently ran a convention that had a focus on Thornkeep - we were able to run every portion of the dungeon in a traditional convention slot (4.5 hours; 8am-1pm, 1pm-6pm, 7pm-midnight).

Thornkeep's running time, though, is largely dependant upon the convention staff's instructions to the GMs - if the GMs are encouraged to fully utilize the village, then your playtime will be greatly lengthened. Most of our tables were "pick-up" gamers and were by means optimized, and although there were a few deaths the tables were 100% successful (no TPKs and every "main bad guy" went down!).

If your local convention is splitting the event then yes, be sure to play both parts! I've had a ton of fun running and playing this particular module and I hope you do too.

Thanks for the reminder, Kinevon. You're absolutely right.
