Pathfinder Society Scenarios at PaizoCon 2013

I've gotten lots of questions regarding PFS scenarios at PaizoCon so I'd like to kind of funnel those questions and information here.

  • 1. Age Limits: Pathfinder Society Scenarios are written for 13+. However, younger kids can and do enjoy playing them. You and your child are the best judge of what they can handle. If you intend to play with your child at a table you will both need to register for the event. Spots at tables are meant for 1 person to sit and play, and in many cases, there simple isn't room for people to sit at a table if they aren't playing or registered.

  • Where are all the PFS games?: I am still entering PFS games into the system. They are non-lotteried events and I should have them all entered by the time the period for marking lottery preferences closes. Once the lottery results have been published on your schedule, you will be able to add open events like PFS.

  • Is there a Special PFS Event?: Yes! The PFS Special event is on Friday night from 7pm to Midnight. It is an open registration event and the system is currently set to cap at 180 attendees.

  • What should I bring? Gaming supplies such as a pencil, dice, etc, and your PFS character (there will also be pre-gen characters available if you need one).

So is there going to be sign ups for the tables when you are done entering them? Or is it just "show up and hope there's space for you? I'm confused.

So what is the Special (event name) going to be at PaizoCon?

Is it the same one as at GenCon? The reason I ask is because I am already signed up for the Special at GenCon and don't want to sign up for it at PaizoCon, as well.

Paizo Employee Developer

The special on Friday night at PaizoCon is a test run of the Gen Con special so we can work out any kinks in the format before we debut it on the big stage with 130 tables.

So what if you plan on not doing any lottery events and wish to register for the open events like PFS? Do we have to wait until the end of the lottery before we can do that?

Yes. June 14th at 2pm you can start adding open registration events.

Gotcha, I will be waiting patiently until then. With my schedule in hand. :D

Thanks! You guys are the best, I can't wait to go!

What time zone is that 2pm at? I really want to make sure me and my GF get into the special. If i get all dressed up in armor and don't get in I will be very sad.

sorry couldn't resist listening to the voices....

With a huge help from Robot Chris, I think all the PFS events are in. They should all be attached to the correct volunteer in the system, so if you are a volunteer and click "show my schedule" you should see the games you are in. Any schedule you have from Mike Brock supersedes this. If you see an error/conflict, please let me know. This was a massive amount of data entry and there were some bugs at first that removed people when I submitted the event. Please note, all I can check on for Pathfinder Society Events are actual errors and event conflicts. I can't resolve any issues regarding personal preferences.

Sweet!

Thanks for all the hard work.

For those interested: I got up the information for the special:

Woot!

Well done Sara Marie and RobotChris.

If only I could be one experience point into 12th-level and still run Eyes of the Ten. Oh, well. I'll play a lower level character for Siege of the Diamond City and return next year with a 13th-level character, or higher!

Thanks again, Sara, for being so on top of communicating with us.

You can...

Dark Archive

...wait, you can have a 12th level who hasn't run EotT and still do the special?

Yes, but then that character would be unable to participate in EotT. Also, once a character starts EotT, it can't be used in anything else until EotT is completed.

Dark Archive

Ah! That makes more sense.

Quote:

To play a Seeker (Tier 12) story arc, the character must start it with exactly 33 XP. If a character is used to play an 11th-level module starting at 31 or 32 XP or a Tier 12+ special scenario at 12th level, thus ending the module or special scenario with more than 33 XP, the character receives full credit for the module or special scenario, but may not play any part of a Seeker story arc...

Guide to Pathfinder Society Organized Play 4.3 (page 27)

Eyes of the Ten is a Seeker story arc. If a 12th-level character with 33xp plays in Siege of the Diamond City, and it rewards experience, they will be unable to participate in Eyes of the Ten. At least as far as I understand from the above quote.

That is correct xebeche (unless an exception is made). Some people were grandfathered in from previous specials (such as last year's Grand Convocation), as they were prior to the rule being published.

Same boat, would love to play my 12th level character, but am waiting on EoTT, so will have to play a 5th level instead. First World problems.

So... I forgot about signing up for scenarios in advance... will I still be able to play at the con?

From Paizo's last email reminder about signing up:

Email wrote:
After 2pm PST June 20th, events with open seats will be available on a first come, first served basis at the event's start time during the convention.

From experience last year - they'll be a crowd trying to fill all the slots - a good portion usually got in games (including at least one or two into each of the ones I played.)

Grand Lodge

Oh good, thanks

My experience from last year: My wife and I bought our tickets a week before the con, and sat at every PFS slot all weekend. We just had to wait in line and be ready to get to the table and go. :)

Still no download for volunteering on 4-25 - flying out Tuesday, really hope I can bring appropriate minis, etc! I was even considering bringing my Dwarven Forge to run it if it fit the scenario.

Hate to bug, but do we have any estimate on the scenarios?

If you're on the list as being a volunteer for a scenario, you should have the PDF in your downloads soon. They're done and in the tech team's hands. What other priorities they have on their plates for the evening I don't know, but it was my understanding that they'd be staying late to get GMs their scenarios to prepare over the weekend.

Thanks for the heads up Mark, I'd begun to worry.

Paizo Employee Developer

I have been informed that all PaizoCon volunteers should now have access to their adventures for the show. If you're running the special on Friday night, you'll have the test run version of this document, though you may not have received an email alerting you to the new asset in your downloads, so please check and make sure it's there.

Got my scenario, no email though. Thanks.

Special props to the Paizo team for working hard and getting these scenarios distributed before the weekend so we can prepare our games!

Digital Products Assistant

All volunteers that are scheduled to run the new scenarios at PaizoCon should have them on their My Downloads page. Please check the page if you are scheduled to run a new scenario to be sure it is there. If it is not, please contact Mike Brock.

Got it late Friday - thanks Mark!

I have a few notes of issues with the scenario - adding to the other thread.
