Hero Lab... issues?

Technology

A friend of mine was using hero lab and when she tries to use Weapon Finesse and equip a rapier, the weapon is still taking the STR modifer and not the Dex modifier. She cannot figure out why, and I have no idea. If anyone can shed some light, it'd be most appreciated.

(sorry if this doesn't go here, I'm still slightly new.)

It likely should go in the other publishers section.

That said... Are you talking the str modifier to hit or to damage? It should take Dex for the former, but Str for the later. (Also I assume she's proficient in the rapier. The character, Hero Lab doesn't know if the player is ;-)

Also, if Str is higher than Dex, it defaults to Str.

Is it possible she's using a shield with the rapier and the ACP is the difference between her dex and str?

It may not be actually taking the str modifier, you just may be getting a number that you don't expect because of other factors, like say wielding a shield, possibly a non proficient one, in your off hand, which impacts on Weapon Finesse, or Two Weapon Fighting which in it's best scenario puts a -2 modifier on your to hit.

Herolab or PCGen tends to factor rules that many people "forget" when they do characters by hand.

It also could be a weight issue. That's one thing that trips up a lot of people new to the programs.

Having this same issue, and the weapon is the first item on the character, so there's no issues from weight or shields.

Wait, what issue are you having?
Weapon Finesse changes your attack roll, not your damage.
I just rolled up a Dex 18 fighter in Hero Lab, and found no issue.
