Cop Shoots Service Dog During Kid's Birthday Party after kicking dog

video NSFW

Hassani explained to another officer after the altercation ended, “I get out to talk to the people, two dogs come around me, one of them's growling and snarling. I kick it. It comes back around, now it's growling and snarling. I kick it again. Then it lunges at me, I'm like, f@@~ you. So, I just shot it.”

Police Chief Tim Reeves explained to a local Fox affiliate, "My decision was that [Hassani] did a good job and he was totally justified in putting the dog down."

Pfft.

'Oh you're gonna shoot me?' The sarcastic last words of straight-A student shot dead by college cop after being stopped for speeding

Wow!

I think the shooter was private security with LEO background, but wow.

Every article I've read calls the shooter a campus police officer. They also say that the shootee got the shooter's baton and hit him with it, but I was only linking it for the famous last words bit.

From what I saw from a link within the original link, this guy sounds like a failure of an officer who couldn't hold a job(hope I read the right stuff there!). I wouldn't be surprised if the situation got away from him and he ended up getting hit, but then that wouldn't be a case of wrongdoing on his part.

Glad to know the dog made it, however this story seems a bit slanted. I am not a dog person in the slightest, but I'm confident that's NOT a puppy. I also find the idea of the cops allowing someone who stole a vehicle to clean it before they process it to be a bit strange. And then another cop pulls up with the gun already drawn an opens fire when a other officers are already there? This article isn't very well written.

As near as I can tell, the person "allowing" the alleged criminal to clean the allegedly stolen property is the dog-owner's roommate, not a police officer.

Thus, it is the first cop, not "another" cop, who shows up and shoots the dog.

Maybe it's just me- I didn't get that from the article. I still think something is up here. It could be my brooklyn biker distrust for dogs and dog-owner's-"Cletus-wouldn't-hurt-a-fly!!!!"-ism kicking in.

A city police officer (Baltimore) is accused of beating a Jack Russell terrier puppy with a mop, then choking the dog and sending a picture of its dead body to its owner — his girlfriend.

"The officers asked her to stay at the station while units were sent to her home to obtain the property and arrest the individual who may have stolen it. Her dogs, Ammo and Half-Pint, and roommate, Kyle Sewall, age 22, waited at home. Sewall gave his account in an exclusive interview with policestateusa.com. “I was waiting on officers to arrive, Ammo needed to go the bathroom and she had been whimpering for 15 minutes. So I gave in and let her out,” said Sewall. “The person who had stolen the property was outside cleaning the stolen vehicle with a shop-vac and while I kept an eye on Ammo I was talking to him playing it cool.” He continued:

“About 5 minutes later is when the sheriffs pulled up, came flying in. Sgt David Little was exiting the vehicle and as he was exiting I noticed he already had his sidearm trained on Ammo who was just sniffing around the ground wagging her tail. And then she looked up at him, did not growl, did not bark, and before I could say anything he fired his weapon. Shot her point blank in the head,”

Emphasis added.

Definitely kicking in with this story. Trying to load the video for a better picture of what's going on with no real luck.

Thanks man.

Still finding this a strange story, and I think there's more to this than this guy's story, but the cops shouldn't have pulled up and shot the dog like that.

Under the Federal Law Enforcement Animal Protection Act, which went into effect this week, anyone convicted of purposely assaulting, maiming, or killing federal law enforcement animals such as police dogs and horses could be fined at least $1,000 and spend up to 10 years in prison. Previously, the animals were covered by a variety of state, rather than federal, laws.

I believe you, I was insufficiently clear: I think that if one of the peons were to shoot a police dog(1), we would be shot ourselves. Thus, no need for felony charges.

(1) Nobody should do this.

I hear what you're saying, but in many of these cases the dog is in it's own yard being protective of its family. The cops break into peoples back yards where dogs are properly secured then they gun down the dogs for reacting to strange men breaking into the dogs yard. Then they have the balls to tell the home owner "tough s~++" or they threaten and intimidate the home owner.

Police Raid Berwyn Heights Mayor's Home, Kill His 2 Dogs

Calvo described a chaotic scene, in which he -- wearing only underwear and socks -- and his mother-in-law were handcuffed and interrogated for hours. They were surrounded by the dogs' carcasses and pools of the dogs' blood, Calvo said.

Sgt. Mario Ellis, a Sheriff's Office spokesman, said the deputies who entered Calvo's home "apparently felt threatened" by the dogs.

"We're not in the habit of going to homes and shooting peoples' dogs," Ellis said. "If we were, there would be a lot more dead dogs around the county."

I'd suggest that we call it a night here so we can end on a happy note.
