No Pathfinder Society in Pennsylvania?

Liberty's Edge

I live near Harrisburg Pa. I was doing a little exploring here and it looks like the nearest Venture Captains are in New York and Washington DC?!? Are there no PFS Venture Captains closer? As far as I can tell, there is no PFS activity anywhere in my area?

Am I looking in the wrong places?

Thanks!

Grand Lodge 4/5

It is why I am looking for a Venture-Captain in both Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. Unfortunately, no one has stepped up.

Thanks for the link. I actually have a regular weekly home game - I was hoping to find a PFS game to try it out. I Have yet to play PFS and I'm curious.

As for finding a Venture Captain in Pttsburgh or Philly, Pittsburgh would not help much would it, since I'm near Harrisburg. Philly might depending on what kind of area that would include.

Oh well, I was just checking. I just kind of assumed there would be a PFS presence here in the Central PA area.

Some PFS group put it on the link I gave you, you may be able to find on near you on that page, if they added it to that site.

9 months ago i was in the same boat in Boise...(flashback wavy lines)

I first registered a PFS number.
Then I downloaded master of fallen fortress.
I then found a game store that would let me run it and have a signup sheet on their counter...
(end flashback)
Now I am a VC... what the $$$$ happened?!?!?

Seriously. start by organizing a game day event in your local game store. it is the old if you build it they will come philosophy. and with pathfinder Society. it is soooo true!

Ninja'd by Clarence.

But the fact is in my area, in spite of having a Venture Captain, most of our games are organized by a store owner or players who ask if they can stay one night a week every other week (or whatever works).

It is truly a matter of just doing it.

Venture Captains not as important as you might think and the most important person in an area is not always the Venture Captain. They do get cool hats and such but that is all.

I currently run society for a home group just a bit north of Pittsburgh. We are currently within the Eyes of the Ten retirement arc. I plan on attempting to run some games at a couple of local conventions in the area in the future, but I don't have nearly enough time to consider taking on a VCs responsibilities.

Hey there! I used to run Pathfinder Society at my store in Philadelphia. About a year ago we temporarily stopped because PFS was no longer serving the needs of our customers, but starting next month we're going to be running it again. I know Philly's not all that close to Harrisburg, but there will be PFS again in Pennsylvania beginning in a few weeks, and you may be happy to know that I'm going to be seeking the position of Philadelphia venture-captain since I agree there's a vacuum that needs filling. If I get the job, I don't think Harrisburg's so far I couldn't head your way a few times and try to get some games going locally, though I encourage you to apply as central PA venture-captain too! It's a big state and could easily house three VCs. If I'm not mistaken there's a guy who owns a store out your way who came by my shop a few times asking for help when he was getting started up, and I shared distributor information, etc., with him. I'm sure I could get him running PFS in Harrisburg if I could show him that there's interest.

Anyway, Pathfinder Society, Wednesdays at 6:00PM, beginning in November at Redcap's Corner! We're going to be closed for a week sometime around the end of November/beginning of December while we relocate to our new, bigger, better location, but I'll make sure to update our website and post to our social networking sites when we have a better sense of the timeframe.

Right now we're located at 4040 Locust St., Philadelphia, PA, and by January 1st at the latest we'll be located at 3850 Lancaster Ave., Philadelphia, PA.

Not if I can throw enough wrenches into things! Muahaha! As your cohort, I must further your Leadership curse!

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Sorry mate, I'm the closest thing there is to activity in Western Pennsylvania. I'll be running my tenth table as a PFS GM this Sunday evening at Bell's Comics and Cards in Grove City, PA. We've been running every Sunday evening since the second week after GenCon Indy this year.

Since we're just off of I80, I'd guess that we're closer to you than Philadelphia, but when you say Harrisburg you could be referring to the area and as such could be up to 3 hours travel from us (and likely no less than 2). While I have to drive an hour and fifteen home after the Sunday night games (which usually run 7-11), I don't know if I could handle 2 or more hours.

As the above posters mention though, you can always just start something. I already had a support system in place and just needed the experiences from this past GenCon to really begin believing that my usual cohorts could handle organized play, but I still had to pull the trigger.

@Michael Brock: If you're still looking for a Pittsburgh VC, I'd be willing to step up if you think I have the credentials. I'm fairly confident that I and my normal attendees are in for the long haul. I live just in the northern suburbs of Pittsburgh. I simply travel over an hour north to run and play because Bell's Comics and cards is the friendliest FLGS that I've ever set foot in.

I know a guy Tom Carpenter that ran PFS games at RegulatorCon. I think he's in Harrisburg.

I think I've heard of RegulatorCon although I know nothing about it. Is this Tom Carpenter active here on the boards? If he runs PFS games, it would seem like he would be ... maybe he can pop in this thread ...

(With the requisit flash of fire and cloud of smoke....) As requested, popping in.

First off, I live in the poconos. I have travelled to Regulator Con back in the Living Greyhawk days and more recently to try and jumpstart some interest in Pathfinder Society. There has been some strong interest from folks (always enough for one table) but my work schedule prevented me from coming down last time. It's a great convention (if 4E heavy) and think all it will take is a local guy who can run something at a local gamestore and build demand for more at the con. The folks that run the convention are very open armed about new players and new DM's regardless of the game system. They are all good people. And if it is offered there, folks are willing to travel there to play.

If it helps, November 11-13 in Scranton PA will be MepaCon, a great little con that will be featuring some Pathfinder Society and you should be able to network with Art Lobdell (the initial VC for the northeast) and a few of his key DM's. Art has asked me in the past about Philly and he would like to see more activity there (and Harrisburg). If there is interest he seems willing to help folks get up and running.

Here is a link to their warhorn listing from this year:

http://warhorn.net/reg-con-2011/

Hopefully this can help you backtrack and find some folks to make contact with. Perhaps you can track down Art Lobdell on this board.

Let me know if there is anything else I can do to help!

Hi All

I just sent a direct message off to the folks at Redcap to see what we might be able to do to support their efforts.

If I find out about RegulatorCon I'll post more information here on the boards. I know some old Living Greyhawk folks from Philly but I don't know if any are into Pathfinder Society.

So, if we're talking about the same old LG people, we're probably not getting them to play Pathfinder Society. I play LFR with them, and they seem pretty happy with 4E and don't want to go back to 3.X. (I personally like playing both, but whatever.) They are, however, my ride to cons, so if there's PFS at Regulator, you might end up seeing me there (depending on if they're trying to do the EPIC mod for LFR at Regulator. I think they would need me to make the EPIC table go off.)

Speaking about PFS in Philly, the past two weeks we've ran games at Redcap's, and while we'll be missing this Wednesday since most of the players will be traveling for Thanksgiving, we'll be back to our weekly Wednesday pattern the week after. We're going through the INTRO mods right now for some new players, and then seeing where it goes from there depending on how many people we end up having and when the store is moving to its new location.

I assume this is still going. If I wanted to swing by next Wednesday, how do I sign up? The Redcaps site mostly talks about the Mithril game, which i understand is on hiatus.

Do you offer something for 1st level characters if I show up this week (Dec 21)? I'm interested because I normally work til 6 but have off next week, and would love to get a little Society play in before the store's big move.

Thanks.

If you want to swing by, just give Redcaps a call on Wednesday. We've been playing it by ear depending on who shows up so far, so as long as we know you're coming on Wednesday, we can accommodate you. We'll definitely have something low-level running.

Some of the Realm Raider guys that were running LC/LG in South Jersey will be taking over PFS at All Things Fun in West Berlin, NJ. It’s about 40 minutes from Philly.

Things won’t be getting started until early January, but the events will be posted here and on the store’s calendar. From most of the interest displayed during the Beginner Box Bash, it looks like almost all the potential players will be starting at level 1-2.

There is a meet & greet scheduled for 12/27/11 from 6pm-9pm to discuss how the group will be scheduling gamedays along with a general PFS Q&A. If you are interested and unable to attend, there is also a thread on the store’s forum asking about availability.

Logged onto your site and saw that there's a few encounters on Thursday. I'd like to sign up; eager to level my character up before PAX.

How has the PFS presence at Redcaps been lately?

I ask because there is a slight chance that I could be moving to Philly in the next few months. I am a PFS coordinator in Fresno, CA and would love to get involved if the move does indeed happen.

4/5

I'm glad this thread popped up. I coordinate PFS play at the Compleat Strategist in King of Prussia, PA. Just outside Philly. Right now we are only running one table, two sessions on the 4th Saturday of the month.

So far I've run two gamedays and the next one will be on the 24th of the month. I just added it to the calender today.

So far it's only been low level play since almost all the players are new to PFS.

The store has a Warhorn page http://www.warhorn.net/constrategist/ which is used for both PFS and LFR.

Thanks.

there's some games in Bethlehem at the Portal Comic Shop FYI
