Male Half-Orc Monk level 1

Ok guys here is our campaign thread. In case you have not noticed we have 3 rangers that were chosen (William I realize that you are more of the rogue / skill monkey role). None the less I had committed to Chiron during our building of his race that he could be more of a damage ranger. So with that said is there anyone who would consider changing their class? If so just let me know. When everyone has checked in I will get this thing started.

Male Centuar Ranger 1

I do want to play the ranger, but, if someone else has their heart dead set on being the slayer, I will gladly take on another role.

For Logarth:

A centaur oracle would totally rock by the way. Very stoic and chivalrous and yet deadly. I also would kinda like to be a charisma character so that I can be useful in the diplomatic side of things too. As this will become a fledgling kingdom, the aged centaurs have much wisdom to present to this would be realm. Enough wisdom to become king against all odds?

For Chiron:
I agree that a centaur oracle would rock perhaps leaning more toward the battle oracle side (that would seem to follow the generally accepted views of centaurs), but lets let everyone else check in first and see how it all shakes out, because I love the centaur ranger. Perhaps, to be king should the party decide on a king and not a council type government, but also a wise viseer would be very cool to, you pull the strings of the king without him knowing.

Truth.

William Flynn reporting for duty! Thank you very much for a spot in your game!

William will definitely fill the spot of the rogue in the typical 4-role party sense. His feel will be more akin to that of a bard, and I obviously plan on picking up bard levels. Later down the line, I'm interested in becoming a Pathfinder Delver, if it makes sense in the context of the campaign to that point.

Are we going to have an in-character thread and an OOC thread? I find them helpful for organization. But then, I haven't been doing this very long... :)

I find that as long as players us the BBCode for out of character comments that it all flows well, and actually can provide some comic relief.

If you could list your spells that you prepare for the day each day that way I can know that would be great.

Male Human Ranger (Trapper) 1

A list of who we have here:

Hamied: Naen Tesrec, Human Cleric
darksmokepuncher: Chiron the Starwatcher, Centaur Ranger
Bilbo Bang-Bang: Dwarf or Human Paladin
Sharp Spark: Carmichael Korvus Silkenlock, Human Bard or Sorcerer
Wraithstrike: Thyum Kren, HOBGOBLIN(!) Ranger

And of course, myself, the wondrous William Flynn. Human Ranger-bard-whatever extraordinaire!

As is, if something doesn't change, it looks like we have Chiron and Bilbo in the front lines, with Naen as clerical support and Thyum and William as ranged support. If Carmichael could grace our game with the presence of a full arcane caster, we'd be all set. If not though, I suppose we'll just put a premium on UMD. (And maybe look for bard archetypes so we don't have to duel Inspire Courage?)

Random thoughts:

I really like Naen's backstory.

I'm intrigued how you made the first level centaur. Are you accepting feedback at all?

Bilbo, you know I like dwarves!

It will be interesting to adventure with a hobgoblin. I, too, wonder how we'll justify it.

Certainly. Would it be best to list them as a spoiler at the start of each day?

In order to get rid of the ranger mashup I might go fighter. I will probably keep the hobgoblin though. That way I won't have to do another background story.

Female Human Cleric 1

Last second tweak, I changed Naen's non-campaign trait from Indomitable Faith to Birthmark. I think it fits the character better, considering that Naen's mother fled to Brunderton at the goddess Milani's behest and gave birth to a child not long after she'd settled in her new home. I'm not saying she was divinely conceived (I left things intentionally ambiguous and leave it up to Logarth if and how to explain Naen's father), but I like to think that Milani has a plan for her and the Birthmark trait would seem to encompass that.

I also updated her skill list and equipment list. I should be all set.

It looks like a solid group. I'm eager to play with you all.

I will have my stats ready today, most likely within the next hour or so.

M Hobgoblin Druid 1

Finally the Hobgoblin is ready for play.
There has been a name and class change.
I don't have an avatar yet, but I figured the background and stats were more important.

Male Dwarf Barbarian (Breaker) 8

Am I correct in saying that the racial benefits from being one of your centaurs are as follows?

2 natural attacks
2 Bonus feats
40 ft speed
Darkvision
Stability
Variable +2 Ability score bonus
possibly some skill bonuses and penalties (I had trouble reverse-engineering these)?
Large size (which is actually a disadvantage, with no reach and undersized weapons)

So you get all the penalties of large size, but it's countered by extra attacks and bonus feats? Interesting.

I have gamed with a centaur before, now that I think on it. We went from 1-20 together in a 3.5 game. She used a sort of racial levels in order to unlock her full potential. Essentially, she took six levels in "centaur", and after that she had all of her racial hit dice, stat bumps, and large size.

It doesn't have the same advantages and powers in Pathfinder, since centaurs aren't as strong as they were, and undersized weapons removes the advantage of size large. But I'm gaming with her tonight - are you interested in finding out what exactly she used?

It looks like H'vok made the transition from ranger to fighter pretty gracefully.

Male Centuar Ranger 1

The centuar has darkvision, +2 CON and WIS, -2CHA, Can use ride by attack or shot on the run but they do not count as feats for purposes of prereqs. Also, there may be a limit to how often he can do those manuevers. Speed is 40ft (30ft in armor). +2 to CMD vs trip and bull rush and thats it.

Yes he is correct, he can only use ride by attack or shoot on the run a given limit per day ( I am still determining it ), similar to a barbarian rage. We tried to give him advantages (like the afore mentioned feats), but disadvantages such as undersized weapons. Large size will be both an advantage at times (Being able to put squishy members of the party on his back and ride out of trouble) as well as a disadvantage at times (there will be penalties in confined spaces).

Pardon my nosiness (behold, the danger of a mechanics nut with a free morning), but I was poking around our character sheets and I noticed that H'vok's stats look like they were derived from a 20 point buy. If I'm not mistaken, we're using a 25 point buy for this game. If I AM mistaken (possible/likely) then I'll go and have a good cry while I adjust Naen's stats. I mention this only because I'm worried that wraithstrike may have shorted himself on his ability scores, but I figured it was a good idea to double-check.

Be it so known that the bearer of this charter has been charged
by the Swordlords of Restov, acting upon the greater good and
authority vested within them by the office of the Regent of the
Dragonscale Throne, has granted the right of exploration and travel
within the wilderness region known as the Greenbelt. Exploration
should be limited to an area no further than thirty-six miles east and
west and sixty miles south of Oleg’s Trading Post. The carrier of
this charter should also strive against banditry and other unlawful
behavior to be encountered. The punishment for unrepentant banditry
remains, as always, execution by sword or rope. So witnessed on this
24th day of Calistril, under watchful eye of the Lordship of Restov
and authority granted by Lord Noleski Surtova, current Regent of the Dragonscale Throne.

Please make your way to Oleg's Trading Post and let us know how you came to be in this group sent out to take back the Stolen Lands.

Male Centuar Ranger 1

23rd day of Calistril - the evening before.

Chiron pulls back his hood as he comes into view of the trading post. The locals here are sometimes trigger happy.

Tired from his work and laden with many pelts, Chiron passes the gates of Oleg's Trading Post.

The square is clearing for the day due to the lateness of his arrival. Being so close to dusk, Chiron decides to save his catch to sell tomorrow. Turning from the square, the centaur makes his way to the inn's kitchen window to ask the landlady for a drink and his usual accommodations in the stable.

"A group is to be chartered tomorrow to reclaim the stolen lands, Chiron." The landlady says. "I thought that might be worthy of your interest. I'm sure your woodsmanship would be quite useful to whatever fledgling nobles take up this charge."

Chiron nods before turning toward the stables.

"An expedition into the Stolen Lands? This could prove profitable, and I could use a break from my mundane schedule."

On the morning of the 24th of Calistril, Chiron presents himself as one of many able bodied adventurers seeking to add their names to the charter. In the end, not enough of them were willing to block the path of the big centaur.

Chiron signs the charter in his boldest hand.

That is covered in my background story.

How I came to be in the group, partial background snipped for convenience.:
....When he turned 17 he decided to enter Grosworth Military Academy*. He did well, but he was never truly accepted and only his adopted family name kept him from being treated a lot worse than he was. After his training was complete he was never assigned to a unit due to a "paperwork error". He was told he was free to go and that he should look upon this mistake as a blessing. He was also told that the paperwork would take a long time to fix, and that it was not worth looking into. He was saddened by how he was treated, and he mostly spent the next year hunting in the forest that was nearby.
One day he returns home to find that a group of adventures are being sent to look into problems with the Stolen Lands. The assignment is a volunteer assignment. It seemed that not many people wanted any part of it, but he jumped at it since he could now prove his worth. He was approved to go, not because anyone believed in him, but only because it was figured the Stolen Lands were too dangerous to be settled, and that was a convenient way to get rid of him.

*Does not really exist in Golarion. I made it up.

Upon receiving the charter H'vok hurries off to Oleg's, eager to meet his adventuring party and prove his value.

Female Human Cleric 1

Quick Note on Feats:
Erefine, I saw your last pre-game post earlier today, but was unable to respond at the time. Because we're starting without our paladin, I thought I'd change up the order of my intended feats. Specifically, I'm moving Toughness and Dodge (the feats I had planned for 3rd and 5th level respectively) to be my starting feats. I'll grab the caster ones later. Sorry for the last minute tinkering, but I wanted to shore up Naen's durability a little earlier in her adventuring career considering we're missing Bilbo. Anyway, Naen steps into the adventure now, so her character sheet set in stone regardless of if/when he joins us.

Her backpack was caught. Again. Naen Tesrec shifted. It was really stuck. She tugged at it as she stretched her shoulders, but it was to little avail. Armor. She would never get used to it.

She shook herself, and finally, the strap of the backpack slid off of the protruding metal scale and slid back into place. Mostly. That would have to do.

One of the men watched her, but as Naen met his gaze, he took in another puff of smoke and looked away. He was actually more discreet than most of the others, but they'd all spent much of the trip with their eyes on her. It was unpleasant, but she was certain they weren't going to try anything. Not with the vicious, iron-shod head of her morningstar visible.

It seemed unreal, hanging there. Far from the most elegant of weapons, to be sure, but this one held family history. Her mother had assured her that it had seen battle many years before, though imagining her swinging it always brought a half smile to Naen's face.

Oleg's trading post was right ahead, the men kept insisting, but it never seemed to be around the next bend, like she continually hoped. It was getting on in the day, and it seemed all too possible to Naen that they would have to stop for another evening before the place came into view. Naen surveyed her fellow travelers, her frustration growing.

"Are we lost?"

One of them looked up at her. He had more teeth missing than were still in his smile.

"It's right ahead, dearie."
"So you've been saying."
"'Bout time to set camp and rest your head. Tomorrow."
"My business at Oleg's Post begins tomorrow. I'd prefer to rest there tonight."

The man didn't answer. He looked beyond her. She turned.

There was a passing rider in the distance. No. It was...something else. Where the horse's head would be, a man's torso began. What manner of creature could it be? Naen had never seen, nor imagined, anything like it.

"Chiron."

Naen sensed fear and respect in the man's voice. The others had taken notice. They were all standing and watching. Naen glanced at them, assembled, and suddenly felt less sure of their harmlessness. She looked back after the creature. It had passed further into the woods. Without taking a moment to think, she started in the direction it had gone.

"Hold on, then."
"Don't be goin' after him. He'll eat a pretty think like you right up."

She heard them speak, but she did not turn and they did not follow. For several minutes, this course of action seemed wise. When that feeling faded, however, and Naen tried to determine the way that she had come, she began to regret her impulse. The sun was setting. The day was beginning to wane.

"Milani guide me."

She pulled her morningstar from her belt loop and as she made a prayer to the Everbloom, it became bright as a torch. She took a deep breath.

"This way."

The night was nearly upon Naen when at last she made her way into the clearing and found Oleg's Post. She gave thanks to her goddess and slowed her pace, taking in the modest trading outpost. That building there had to be the inn; it was one of the few doors still open. And here. This was the office that was to issue the charter tomorrow morning. Naen resolved to rise early and be the first in line.

William stared at the piece of paper. I'm not going. He said flatly.

Arron Starr looked taken aback. William, what do you mean? You are so smart, you will make an excellent wizard!

I mean what I said, Arron. I will not go to the Arcanamirium. There's no place for me there.

Arron glanced back at the letter. No place? "A seat has been reserved for William Flynn in the company of the First Spell Lord in Absalom on the 24th of Calistril." That sounds like a place to me.

William broke and smiled. Arron could be fun when he wasn't worrying about the harvest. I won't learn anything being cooped up in a stuffy academy all day.

Now, William, you listen to me. He could also be stern. You are a smart young lad. You have opportunities that were never available to men like me. With Caleb stronger than you, and Netty nearly grown, I have enough help here. You need an education, and this is the best school in the world, no doubt. Look, I have another brochure...

And I will have an education. But it will be on my terms. William put the advertisement on the table.

The Stolen Lands? asked Arron, bleakly. Don't throw your life away.

I'll tell you what, Starr. If this goes nowhere, I'll become a wizard. Then I'll come back here, and turn you into a toad for doubting me.

Arron chuckled. But I'll have been right!

That's the annoying part.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Try as they might to change his mind, William would not budge. The next day, William gathered what possessions he cared to bring, including the food that Eleanor had so lovingly packed. Arron, Eleanor, Caleb, and Netty had gathered in the yard. He said his goodbyes to each in turn, saving Arron for last.

Thank you for everything you have done for me. I shall not forget it. William reached out for a handshake, but Arron drew him into an embrace.

You stay alive, William Flynn, and you keep your head about you. Remember the difference between genius and stupidity?

Genius has limits. William winked as he began to take his leave. He stopped several feet away and turned to stare Arron in the eye. You will always be my father. No matter what anyone says. He turned abruptly and stepped off to meet his destiny.

-------------------------------------------------------------

With this encounter fresh in his mind, William reports to Oleg's Trading Post, ready to receive his education.

The first three italicized lines in Naen's post should be instead be bolded, but the time to edit has passed. Apologies for any confusion.

A man strode beneath the oak trees on the way to Oleg's Trading Post, watching sparkling rays of light cascade down through the windy leaves. The energy welled in his hands and Korvus didn't know if it was the excitement or the shiver of magic that surged through him.
He had been called by an old contact and the Elf's pointy ears pointed him to a job that might open up a larger world to a lad that slept with one eye open in case just such an opportunity happened to arise.

The mark of Adrianna's lips were still wet against his neck, and her warmth carried him through the long crooked forest path. A raven, his familiar swooped down from above to rest upon the blond man's left shoulder. Korvus fed it several seeds while avoiding a large rock that protruded from the pathway. The River Kingdoms could be gorgeous at many a time, giving him surprise after another unexpected enchantment.
Up ahead several shadows contrasted against the horizon and Carmichael did not miss a beat, he wanted it all.. every kernel, each sowed seed. Every laugh and worthwhile exchange. What a beautiful damn day.

Chiron regards William, then glances down his back, admiring the dozen or so pelts he's brought in from the wilds.

The young human fancies himself a tapper does he? I will have to test his skill. Maybe this one will prove worthy of the name. Desna, please grant me patience with this one.

"I am the only one of my kind hereabouts that will interact with humans. There are others about, but do expect them to behave as I do."

"Starr..? I've heard the name, though I cannot place it. I confess I did not expect a trapper to work for a farmer. Did you bring many pelts with you, Trapper William Flyn?"

Chiron gestures to his own collection as he speaks. His tone is less sarcastic than it is testing. Chiron watches the young man closely, gauging his response.

Female Human Cleric 1

What a powerful creature, and yet so graceful. Naen watches Chiron with a mixture of awe and wariness. As strange as he seems, she can't help but think of his presence as a good omen. After all, it was his appearance in the wood that had ultimately led her here. She did not trust the group of men she had been traveling with previously, but for some inexplicable reason, she does trust the centaur. And yet she has not said a word to him. There is nothing to say. What, shall I tell him of my distaste for riding?

Naen looks away, embarassed, and silently chides herself. Such foolish thoughts. Put them out of your head. And stop staring.

She almost doesn't hear William speak to her.

Another fledgling human out to reclaim the stolen lands? Why do the humans rush themselves so? Am I to play wet nurse I wonder?

"Beautiful, but deadly. What god do you serve, priest, that would send his faithful into danger so young?"

Since we haven't yet, I am going to begin with a physical description of Chiron. I'd like to know who I'm looking at if everyone else is willing to follow suit.

Chiron stands over eight feet. His coal-black hooves sit deep in the soft ground. He wears a dark green brigandine trimmed in rawhide leather over his bare chest. A baldric of woven cloth drapes his broad shoulders, suspending a well-worn quiver full of black fletched arrows. At his side rests a towering five-and-a-half foot sword. He is wrapped in a burgundy cloak that cascades down his back and pools on his chestnut, equine posterior. Chiron's face is grim and weathered. His dark, shoulder length ponytail is peppered with salty grey. Though his human features tell others he may have near 40 summers, his eyes reflect a wisdom and understanding that far outstrip the venerable elders of the human race.

Chiron is 77 and he is known in the area as "the Starwatcher" if anyone needs to use that later.

"Well I see Master Chiron has a nice smattering of pelts to sell, should any of the rest of you require it I do have a small store just over there." Oleg motions to the left where a small room is dotted with diverse articles.

M Hobgoblin Druid 1

After everyone speaks H'vok introduces himself "My name is H'vok, and I am here for the same reasons as the others. Well actually I am here to also prove that I can be an asset in the attempt to settle this place, and to be alive to tell the tale when it is done."

I really don't care for the hobgoblin's height under Pathfinder so my hobgoblin is going to be tall, at least for a hobgoblin

H'vok is about 5'9, and appears to be in his late teens. When he walks it is with confidence and he appear to be a lot lighter on his feet than anyone should be that trained as a fighter.
His armor(breastplate), and scythe are well shined. It seems he takes a great deal of pride in his appearance, and his mannerisms would lead one to believe he is vain(cha 8).

"When we get a chance I would like to talk to everyone about how they plan to contribute to the party. I am pretty decent at not being seen, and I am a pretty good fighter also."
