Alrighty, so here is where we can discuss stuff:

Here are Creation Rules for people who wanna make new characters:

20 Point Buy
2 Traits, 1 must be a Campaign
Average Starting Gold
Max HP at 1st Level
Races Allowed: Core and the Psionic Races from the Dreamscarred book
Classes Allowed: Core, APG, Clever Godling, Strong Godling, Psionics from the Dreamscarred Book
3rd Party allowed with DM Approval and nonstandard races subject to approval.
No Evil Alignment

You all may or may not know each other. If you want to use your old character from Crypt/Carrion Crown then please adjust your traits (change them to 2 traits only, and 1 of them Campaign) and background to be appropriate.

Campaign Traits:

Fools for Friends: You don’t think of yourself as a gambler. In fact, you rather detest the whole thing. Unfortunately, one or more of your friends (pick one or more of the other players’ characters) doesn’t think so, and you’ve recently learned that friend—or friends—have decided to go to the Gold Goblin’s “Cheat the Devil and Take his Gold” tournament. Which pretty much means you have to go as well, since if no one’s there to watch out for them, they’ll lose all their money and respect. Again. Sometimes it’s hard being the responsible one. Your devotion to your friendships (even when said friends seem, at times, to be trying to test that devotion) is a point of pride to you.

Benefit: Whenever you take the Aid Another action to help an ally, or whenever an ally aids you in this manner, a successful check grants an additional +1 trait bonus to the check for which aid was being rendered. Additionally, as long as one of your friends is within 30 feet, you gain a +1 trait bonus on all saving throws against charm and compulsion effects.

Into Enemy Territory: The shadow in the sky is visible from all around Riddleport, not just in town. It’s certainly come to the attention of several druids, rangers, and other rural folk who dwell in the nearby mountains, forests, and swamps—among them, yourself. You’ve consulted with several seers and Harrowers, and may even have performed some simple auguries yourself, and all the signs point the same way—something or someone in Riddleport is connected to the blot, and it means bad news for the region. You’ve avoided the sleazy, dirty town for most of your life, traveling there only when absolutely necessary, and although you don’t relish the prospect of going there now, you see little other choice (especially if one of your superiors is ordering you to go investigate). Fortunately, an eccentric friend of yours (pick another PC) is in town, and you’ve heard this friend will be taking part in some gambling thing at a place called the Gold Goblin. Your friend’s always had better luck interacting with the cityfolk, so you’ve decided to accompany your friend to this gambling tournament and plan on letting him find a safe place for you to stay while you’re in town. Your long life of self-sustenance has toughened you and made you more resistant to hardship.

Benefit: Pick Fortitude, Reflex, or Will. You gain a +1 trait bonus on all saving throws of that type.

Looking for Work: Although out of work, you aren’t particularly keen on the prospect of gambling away your last remaining coins simply for a chance at riches. That said, if the Gold Goblin’s fortunes reverse after this big gambling tournament, you’re relatively certain its owner, Saul Vancaskerkin, will be needing to hire on some new staff members. You’ve secured payment for the tournament, and intend on attending mostly to check the place out, to decide if it’s a place you’d want to work at (as a bouncer, bartender, croupier, server, entertainer, spotter, or cook), and hopefully get a chance to catch Saul’s eye and make an impression. You’ve long worked at honing your skills, and are quite accomplished and certain that you have something to offer.

Benefit: Pick one of the following skills: Bluff, Craft (any), Diplomacy, Intimidate, Perform (any), Profession (gambler), or Perception. You gain a +1 trait bonus in that skill, and that skill is always considered a class skill for you.

Optimistic Gambler: You’ve always seemed to have trouble keeping money. Worse, you always seem to have debts looming over your head. When you heard about the “Cheat the Devil and Take His Gold” gambling tournament, you felt in your gut that your luck was about to change. You’ve always been optimistic, in fact, and even though right now is one of those rare times where you don’t owe anyone any money (you just paid off a recent loan from local moneylender Lymas Smeed), you know that’ll change soon enough. Better to start amassing money now when you’re at one of those rare windfall times! You’ve set aside a gold coin for the entrance fee, and look forward to making it big—you can feel it in your bones! This time’s gonna be the big one! Your boundless optimism, even in the face of crushing situations, has always bolstered your spirit.

Benefit: Effects that grant you morale bonuses persist 1d4 rounds longer than they normally would as a result.

Researching the Blot: You may or may not be seeking membership into Riddleport’s most prestigious magical guild, the Order of Cyphers, but you certainly have heard their call for aid in determining the nature of the strange shadow in the sky above Riddleport. You arrived in town several days ago and had some issues with security and safety at several inns before you finally settled on the Gold Goblin; you’ve been staying there as a guest for several days now, and the owner, Saul Vancaskerkin, seems like a nice guy. He’s even given you a pass to attend the gambling tournament he’s about to throw—you’re not sure how into gambling you’ll be, but perhaps there’ll be some visitors from out of town you can talk to about the strange shadow in the sky. At the very least, you’re hoping someone at the tourney will be into magic—there’s not really enough folk in this town who seem all that interested in magic, you’ve found. Your interest in magic dates back quite far, and as a result, you’ve developed a knack for identifying common magical items at a glance.

Benefit: You can a +1 Trait Bonus to Knowledge Arcana Skills and Spellcraft. These are always class skills for you.

Scouting for Fiends: You belong to an organization (most likely a religion) that has definite views on the menace posed by the lower planes. The willfulness with which the city of Korvosa (they even allow a temple of Asmodeus to operate in broad daylight!) tolerates infernal influences is, to you and your organization, the greatest symbol of what’s wrong with civilization today. And now, in Riddleport, there’s news that a gambling tournament is using devils and Hell as an idle decoration. It’s likely that this is just an example of poor taste, but there’s a chance that something sinister may be lurking beneath the goings-on at the Gold Goblin. You have been contacted by your organization (or may have decided on your own) to travel to Riddleport (if you don’t already live there) and attend this tournament under the guise of a patron. Keep an eye on things there, even after the tournament is over; if you can, get a job working for the owner. Demons and devils can be subtle, and it could take weeks or even months to find proof of their involvement.

Benefits: You gain a +1 trait bonus on all attack rolls made against foes you know to be evil outsiders.

If you have any questions ask. And if I end up with enough people I will run 2 groups (god help me)

OH and my friend has already been approved by me, so when he posts he is already clear. Should give ya an idea of how laid back I am, if my other game has not already lol

I'm going to go with a Ninja-- drat. No Playtest allowed..*mournfully eyes Stompinator? *ahem* I'm going to go with a Thrown Weapon Fighter, (provided Stompinator doesn't allow Ninja) with the Opportunistic Gambler Trait. Of course, I welcome you all to use the "Fools for Friends" trait on account of me, as I will have a low Will when it comes to gambling my savings away.

Stompinator, are you willing to allow the Academy Graduate option from the Campaign setting for this fighter?
*hopehopehoping for Ninja*

Eh you can be a Ninja. I didnt mention that stuff cause I forgot about it.

So yea, Playtest stuff is allowed :)

And whats the Academy Graduate option and where is it found? Inner Sea World Guide?

Oh Quick Note:

Since the XP is not matching exactly as I go about converting the encounters, rather then add to them (which is insane enough to begin with) I am simply going to have you all level when its appropriate based on story. Its roughly even with the expected growth of your adventure, its just less annoying for me and one less thing to track.

Hope ya don't mind.

Sovereign Court

I believe it was in the 3.5 campaign setting book for PF- allowes a fighter 4 + int skill points per level in exchange for the first bonus feat. Essentially a more classically schooled fighter.

Ah. Thats not a big deal to me, it would be fine :)

I'm in. I'll almost certainly roll another character. I know next to nothing about Second Darkness, though. Let me see what I can find, and I'll let you know what I'm going to play.

Sadly the Players Guide for this series is not free, but iffen ya have questions let me know and I will try my best to answer em :)

So No UM? I know nothing about the other three books and don't have them.

The only non-standard race I would have wanted to play is Tengu. Just simple because its a birdman.

I completely forgot about UM! :P

Yea Ultimate Magic is allowed.

The Clever Godling and Strong Godling are from the Super Genius Guide to the Godling Class. And the Psionics Stuff is on the d20pfsrd website.

What class would this Tengu be? And do me a small favor: Don't be insane this time around please :) Just a small request :P If you really want to be a bit kooky thats fine but I would prefer it not to be as far as Virgil got. That was a bit off the deep end.

Thats my one major request.

I'd probably run with ninja as well, or monk. Gunslinger does bring in some of my interest for it as well.

Ævux wrote:

I am not sure about the Gunslinger simply because of the use of Gunpowder, but if it makes sense I wouldn't mind it. You realize if you went Gunslinger you would end up having to make your own ammo, gunpowder, and guns right? Cause its not like you are gonna find such things lying around.

Tengu is fine though.

Really I wouldn't have it any otherway if I was playing a gunslinger.

Though I could totally play a ninja gunslinger. Screw stealth i use guns!

(Not that I would. There was just this one arcade game i played where you were ninjas.. that used guns to fight other ninjas It was ridiculous.)

Also I'll try not to be insane. I was hard to actually play virgil because he was both smart and dumb at the same time.

Whelp, make your choice and put something together :)

Yea lets avoid another Virgil eh? Something simpler would be better haha :P

Male Tengu Bard - Dirge Singer

Lol.. For a moment there I though the last trait was "Searching for Friends."

Actually I've made up my mind and decided on it. Bard, Archetype Dirge Singer.

Woo! *Dances* Alright then, that'll make my character. I'd like to take the "Into Enemy Territory"(ordered by superiors) Campaign trait, but I'll need another character to play off of, else I'll be taking the "Looking for Work" Trait.

The character is linkified >>HERE<< for the sake of reference, but I will announce when she's done.

Well, you could work with Edgar maybe?

Can do. So Ævux, what'cha got so far?

Just to reiterate and flesh out further here - I will be playing Dzae with minimal changes. His back story already included gambling so he will be taking the Looking for Work trait. He will definitely be playing in the tournament. I haven't chosen the specific trait bonus yet as I am weighing the benefits of each. As far as interaction with the other PCs, Dzae has just arrived in town. If someone wanted to use him as part of their trait we would have to work out how we met already while traveling or have them somehow meet and bond before the tournament. I guess that will have to wait until we see how the groups shake out.

AK, are you going to play in this? We could actually be in the same party, maybe, you me and max...

Jeremiziah wrote:

Its looking like I am gonna have room. Right now the plan is two 5 person groups, but I can run with 6 in one for all I am concerned. The Encounters in this thing are challenging enough that it wouldnt unbalance things that much :)

So AK, you are totally welcome to jump in :D I would love to DM for ya!

Well just got done writing a bio.. twice. (stupid form glitches.)

I'm taking Noble Scion, Scion of the Arts for my feat.

Campaign Trait, The Optimistic Gambler
Second trait is either Heirloom weapon - Sword Cane or Rich Parents... possibly something else I didn't see that would work.

If you do rich parents it will set your GP to 900, not add 900. Just an FYI cause thats how I run it :)

So the three people left who have not responded one way or the other are as follows:

Missing: Angryscrub / Smiley (Carrion Crown)
Missing: overfiend / Alex Fellblade (Crypt)
Missing: lovelydwarf / Gregor the Roach (Crypt)

Of those, I bugged overfiend on his own OOC thread (haha) but the other 2 I have no idea about. They have until I wake up friday, and then after that its anyone's game.

Alexander has a spot saved iffen he wants it, because sunshadow declined to join (he is running 2 games of his own)

Hello! Stomphoof's MYSTERIOUS FRIEND reporting for duty.

Alright, so here is the roll call thus far:

Players for Sure
Me'Mori - Ninja
Jeremiziah - Inquisitor
Aevux - Dirge Bard
Max Hellspont - ???
Dzae - Rogue
Patcher - I will let him spoil it, Its awesome.

4 Spots Open
Alexanxer Kilcoyne: Maybe? :3
Missing a Response: Angryscrub
Missing a Response: overfiend
Missing a Response: lovelydwarf

Once I get the full 10 people, I will then create the groups from the completed folks. I have actually finished MOST of the conversion work on the module, and since I am nixing XP and just going with Story Leveling it will be MUCH easier on my head to run 2 groups :D

Oh no! Not the mysterious stranger class! We are all going to get killed by the mysteries!

Male Tengu Bard - Dirge Singer

Mostly Completed Everything here I think.

Jeremiziah reporting for duty! *salutes*

Edgar V. Price wrote:

Alright. Now it's a question of working out how the traits are influencing the character tie-ins.

"Fortunately, an eccentric friend of yours (pick another PC) is in town, and you’ve heard this friend will be taking part in some gambling thing at a place called the Gold Goblin."

I'm going with the "ordered there by superiors" angle for Nichelle, though she's mostly clueless about the organization she's a part of (knows what she needs to know). So that would make Price her "friend"(contact). So I suppose she'll be told to look out for the seal on the ring, and help out from there.

By the by, what does the family signet look like?

Edgar, Trista, Nichelle, and Patcher are all cleared (I have seen Patchers characters).

Still waiting for Dzae to update.

Still waiting for Max in general.

And we have one more day before I start trying to openly recruit 4 more people! :D

Well just picking the most appropriate picture for now..

http://t5ak.roblox.com/b9d25d7f5eb3ef1bba8f025487e79a49

something kinda like that.

Hey 'Hoof! I saw your post targeted at Aron. Do you have room for another? I think you're following a game or two that I'm in: Lucendar's Legacy of Fire and two of Aron's games.

Well Mark, if you are interested I wouldnt mind having ya. I have a space for sure open cause 1 player said no, so you can have that one if you want.

Then I got 3 spots saved till tomorrow morning. After that, I gotta fill those 3 with people.

The creation guidelines are up further in the thread. Be welcome...Kreen, Dumah! :D hahaha

In fact, Aron is one of the other spots I am saving. Get him to say yes or no damnit! :P

Ok so lets do a player update:

Players for Sure
Me'Mori - Ninja (Nichelle)
Jeremiziah - Inquisitor (Trista)
Aevux - Dirge Bard (Edgar)
Max Hellspont - ??? (saved spot though)
Dzae - Rogue (Dzae)
Patcher - A Magus....but what RACE?
markofbane - ???

3 Spots Awaiting Response:
Missing a Response: Angryscrub
Missing a Response: overfiend
Missing a Response: lovelydwarf

1 Possibly Interested?
Alexander Kilcoyne

Tomorrow morning when I wake up those 3 spots awaiting a response will become open, and I will have to recruit for em.

Thanks! It is looking like the group is light on arcanists, which tends to be my favorite anyway. :) I'll get to work.

I have seen his use of his mage Dumah :)

But killing an entire encounter with just Color Spray? This I gotta see :P

Ok, Dzae is a professional gambler now. Ta Da!

Aw, you're making me blush. :) But one of the moments I am most proud of was Dumah using True Strike and Burning Hands to help take down a Redcap... Good times!

Hey DM Stompinator aka DM Darkhoof. I saw your post over in the late lamented Crypt game and then spent two days trying to decide if I wanted to add another game or not. Then I got distracted by in-laws and . . . it's been a busy few days. Sorry.

Anyway, I'm interested in playing Second Darkness and I'm willing to be flexible about class and race. My first instinct is a vermin druid, though I'd like to take a vermin companion from Ultimate Magic rather than the death/darkness/destruction domain. If that's not okay, I can live with that. I basically imagine a dirty, street urchin who has made friends with the insects of riddleport.

I'd also consider playing a strong godling, though I haven't thought much about the character; I just never thought I'd get a chance to use such a nonstandard class.

Hey lovelydwarf, consider your spot saved. Soooo where can I find a vermin druid exactly? I have only heard a bit about it, but not much else. Something that may tip the scales for ya: Neither group (when I divide em) has a meat shield. Just FYI.

I assume a vermin druid is a Blight Druid correct?

Players for Sure, Completed Characters:
Me'Mori - Ninja (Nichelle)
Jeremiziah - Inquisitor (Trista)
Aevux - Dirge Bard (Edgar)
Dzae - Rogue (Dzae)
Patcher - A Magus (I have seen it)

Players for Sure, Need a Character:
Max Hellspont - ???
markofbane - ??? (Arcanist of some sort?)
lovelydwarf - Vermin Druid or Strong Godling?

2 Spots Awaiting Response, Deadling Friday Morning when I wake up:
Missing a Response: Angryscrub
Missing a Response: overfiend

1 Possibly Interested (And I will have a spot for him should he claims one)
Alexander Kilcoyne

Ah, I meant blight druid from the APG, but using a vermin companion from Ultimate Magic, which is not rules as written, but it does seem like the the intent of those companions from UM. But, if no one else wants to bash some heads, I'll be a strong godling. I just have to figure out the background and dig up the .pdf. How long do I have to build this fellow?

Eh, you can be a blight druid iffen ya want with the companion, aint that big a deal.

Or a godling, take your pick :)

As far as time to build? Well, assuming the other 2 people from the Crypt game don't chime in, you got about 4-5 days. If they DO chime in, I am gonna have to split the groups up, and then finish a few things based on that. So I would say Minimum 4 days regardless :)

Just follow the rules I wrote up top and you are clear, and post here when done so I can take a look.

Trista is a pseudo-meatshield. She is at least willing to die on the front lines, should it come to that, in protection of her allies :-)

And she will be doing big damage with a pointy piece of metal. So, there's that. One pseudo-meatshield for two groups.

Personally, I don't think there's any huge unbalancing factor with letting a Blight Druid choose a Vermin Companion instead of a familiar or a domain. I'm pretty sure that if vermin companions would have been an option when the APG came out, they'd have received one. *shrugs*

Just a warning: I may be allowed the Adept and Eldritch Godling classes as well.

A friendly person just gifted me the PDF. So we shall see what I think of it.

EDIT: Ok finished reading. All Godling Classes are allowed in. Nothing too terrible and they seem very entertaining.

Checking in! I know I initially said I'd play either a Wizard or a Sorcerer, but with psionics being allowed I'm thinking about playing a Psychic Warrior - either a duergar or a half-giant. I'm thinking he could be from the same circus as Dzae; as such, campaign trait-wise I'm leaning toward either Fools for Friends or Into Enemy Territory.

Where the hell can I find the info for Half Giants? 0_o

I know where to find Duergar (seriously, evil dorf?!) but Half-Giant?

Nevermind: Found it :P

That works just fine for me. The first question that would need to be resolved is, since Dzae left the circus several years ago did your character:

A. Leave at the same time and we've been traveling together ever since or
B. Leave some time later and either intentionally or not met up with Dzae and has traveled with him since or
C. Leave either quite recently or a while ago but runs into Dzae in Riddleport?

Any othe three would be fine with me. 2nd question: What was your role in the circus? Since Dzae grew up there he did various acts including acrobatics, juggling and knife throwing. Let me know so we can weave our stries together.
