Player for Carrion Crown PBP

Gamer Connection

Hey, there. I'm interested in playing in a Carrion Crown PBP. I have some experience playing in other PBPs, and I'm running two as well. I have a few character concepts I can throw, including the profile I'm posting under. I currently have him listed using 20-point-buy, and as one of the variant Tiefling options listed in Bastards of Erebus. I also have what changes would be made were I to switch him to standard Tiefling, Tengu, and Changeling, all assuming 20-point-buy. I can also throw a few different character ideas out, including:

  • Human Necromancer
  • Elf Rogue
  • Changeling Bard
  • Half-Orc Witch

If anybody is looking to start up a Carrion Crown PBP, or is interested in playing in one, count me in. I'm willing to purchase PDF copies for the GM if somebody is interested in running it but doesn't have the books.

  • Liberty's Edge

    Interesting character...

Have not got this AP, unfortunately...

  • I'm not the Gm so I don't know if the Asuna will get in but we are looking for a couple more players and we are right at the beginning of the AP

Look for 'Jörmungandr's Carrion Crown' in gamer connection. We'll be waiting for you.

I'll give Jörmungandr a shot, but I'll leave this open for now.

OK come back to me if you cannot get admission to an existing game.

If you're interested in putting one together and starting one up, I'll move my bid over to yours. I just have a bid there to maximize chances. I'd prefer starting from the beginning instead of jumping in partway through. I have Asuna who I can throw on short notice, the various alternates I listed above, and one I just put together just yesterday.

For a long time, Gumz Bigtracker was a fairly typical Goblin. He ran around with the others, causing mayhem and tracking the Longshanks. Gumz in particular was excellent at sneaking up on people and at hitting people with the shortbow. He was always a bit different from the others, though, because he wasn't afraid of the Longshanks the way the others were. Gumz was fascinated by things that he found, especially the books. He never held with the common Goblin belief that writing steals the words out of your head. He couldn't read, though, so he horded his secret stash of books for a long time. He thought that one day, if he learned to read them, he could be the best Goblin ever.

One day, Gumz was out searching for food and hiding from the others. He had one of his favorite books with him (he liked the pictures), when he came across an old human being menaced by a rabid dog. Gumz knew how to deal with that. He quickly whipped out his shortbow and shot the thing dead. Then he started talking with the old human. The man's name was Lorrimor. Gumz was initially wary of the taller being, but Lorrimor overcame that when he noticed the book at Gumz's side. He offered to teach Gumz to read it. Gumz quickly seized on this opportunity, and went with the Longshanks. It was an illustrated book of children's fairy tales. Gumz was astonished. When he mentioned his people's fear of writing, and worried that the book had stolen the words from the writer's head, Lorrimor laughed. He then closed the book, and told Gumz to think about the story. Gumz thought about it, and then told the human what he thought. The human wrote down what he said, then showed him how he could still think about it even though the words were now on the page. Gumz was dumbfounded.

From that day forth, Gumz carried his Book everywhere. He never lost his talents from his days of being a non-reading Goblin (as he came to think of them). He made himself the best, sneakiest, smartest Goblin he could, and he always kept in touch with his friend Lorrimor, who also taught him to write as time went by. When Gumz heard that Lorrimor was dead, he was very sad, and thought he must go to the funeral to pay tribute to the Longshanks who opened his eyes and taught him to read.

The others were Human Necromancer, Elf Rogue (Shadow Dancer), Half-Orc Witch, Changeling Cleric of Shelyn or Bard(detective), and Asuna (Cleric of Sarenrae, Race variable, background needing adjustment). It would be your choice on what ended up going in, and I can adjust any of them for whatever character creation guidelines you'd like. I have backgrounds for Gumz (above), Asuna (some adjustment necessary), Joran (Necromancer), Shaelindriel (Elf Rogue), and Taeliniel (Changeling Cleric or Bard).

I am gonna guess all the DMs are busy.

I want to get into a second PBP game so I can get my Half Orc Summoner or my Ratkin Alchemist into a game! :P

Yup, unfortunately there are never enough GMs to meet the demand of a new AP. Like everyone else, I want to find a game for my own concept, a dwarven wizard archer. Guess we'll all just have to keep our eyes open.

    Some questions for y'all.

    1. How far in advance should a DM advertise for a game? I am currently taking a class for my volunteer job, but at 30+ hours a week including papers, I don't have a lot of time left over for gaming. I can see it clearing up mid-May. Should I wait till May 1st or so, and that would be two weeks notice?

    2. Are folks looking *only* for Adventure Paths? I think that I would like to run the Falcon's Hollow connected modules (D0, D1, D1.5, D4) which takes the PCs to about 7th level. After that, either start over or perhaps add a module / dungeon adventure or two. This also gives me the option of bailing out if I find that I really, really don't like running a PbP, at the end of each of the modules. It also gives the players the option to bail at the same points.

    3. Is it reasonable to ask for 1+ daily postings? One of the things that I see in the games that I follow is that they are sooooooo slow, sometimes to the point of being almost unbearable.

    4. Also, what about character classes? Core + APG only? Limiting of Archetypes? No 3PP stuff? Is it too far to ask folks to play reasonably iconic type characters?

    5. Also, role playing. I was following a PbP and one character in particular was littering the posts with thee's and thou's and other middle English grammar / spelling. I have stopped following that, as it really does not do anything for me.

I would think a week or two in advance seems to be the norm. From what I have noticed.

A game is a game to me personally, as long as the house rules are not too crazy.

Most PBP seem to want 1 post min per day.

I think allowing the Core and APG is a pretty good standard. As far as iconic types go: no idea. I personally like to play oddballs (Ratkin Alchemist, Half Orc Summoner) ect.

That depends on the player and thier style. I guess if you wanted you could only allow people who have played in a previous PBP and showed how they roll with their speech patterns. That would alienate newbies like myself though (since I have yet to actually PARTICIPATE in a PBP :P)

I'd do it that way. Character creation gives the players some momentum, and stepping directly from that to play lets them keep that.

That was a recent topic of discussion elsewhere on the boards. It does seem counterintuitive that APs are more popular here.

I don't think so. That drives me up the wall, too; then again, we all have lives. The occasional missed day is tolerable, but a missed week is something else entirely. (That's why if I ever run a PbP here I'm going to insist on having outside emails for the players.)

    Papa-DRB wrote:

Reasonably iconic characters have the virtues of being easy to get into for a couple of posts a day and being easy for the DM and other players to play off of. The one thing that PbP is quite good with (pace your next question) is supporting more in-depth roleplay than FTF, so a player can make her/his character distinctive in personality--the need to make a character distinctive in capability is lessened.

De gustibus; I can see where something like that could work, but it wouldn't be easy. It wouldn't necessarily turn me off completely. I try to give each of my characters a distinctive voice, which might extend to very little use of contractions (for a character for whom Common is a second language), sticking with little words (for a less intelligent character), etc.

    Liberty's Edge

There is nothing more to add than what has been said...though I will add to the last one:

    5. It is a roleplaying game and many players like to make their characters come alive and be different than their other characters or those in the campaign. Honestly i'm in a PBP (RotRL), we just got a new member to our party a Paladin and she has an outrageous accent. It's great for the RP and the only part that is accented is the IC conversation, nothing else.

In the end I see nothing wrong with it, but also in the end if you are the DM it's your call! :D

    Shadow Lodge

    In response to your questions:

    1) You'll find people for PBPs in spades. They tend to fill up very fast once a GM/DM announces that they're ready and willing to run one. Character creation might take a few days, but if you wait two weeks to pick who gets in, you'll end up with a huge number of choices and people walking away. I'd say no more than a week, maybe 3 days.

    2) You'll probably find people willing to play almost anything. Just announce up front what you want to run, and people will respond if they're interested. There's been an AP-interest surge recently, but that doesn't stop people from playing Homebrews, Modules, and even other systems. I've been seeing them all over the boards.

    3) If you ask for an average of minimum 1/day, you'll get it more often than not. Life does occasionally get in the way, but I've noticed such things tend to be the exception and not the rule. People will let you know if that's possible for them.

    4) That's a GM-style question. If you want people to play iconic-type characters, feel free to ask them to. If you want to limit resources, that's entirely fair. Just let them know up front. Example: For the games I run, I tend to ask that it be in a book I have or something I can find on the PFSRD. I also tend to disallow third party material, but that's a personal preference. I try to let players know in advance what their resource access is so they don't burn time looking through stuff I wouldn't allow.

    5) This is another style question. If you want people to keep their posts in predominantly modern English, not type phonetic accents (typed Jamaican can be a bear to read), or whatever, that's again your call. Just let people know up front.

Many folks want in....silly question....I would expect every one already here to start with!!! Yes would love to get in a CC AP game, got a tiefling fighter or elven wizard. And if you accept some crawling sycophantic behavior, then it would be especially good with a GM who has a good reputation on these boards.

I am very interested. I got a couple of characters I built (20 point buy) that I want to try out, both concept wise and in play.

Human Oracle of Battle (ex soldier)
Half Orc Summoner (He just wants to make friends!)
Ratkin Alchemist (little twitchy and loves explosions)

I think if you post a recruitment thread you will find yourself bombarded with applicants :)

Likewise with the above players, I'm also interested. I have a bunch of different things I can play, most all of the Caster or Skill-monkey persuasion. That makes six, if I'm reading this right.

    -Deevor (Fighter, Wizard)
    -Radavel
    -Azoun the Sage (Rogue)
    -Corvellin
    -Stomphoof (Alchemist, Oracle, Summoner)
    -jlighter (Bard, Cleric, Rogue, Witch/Wizard)

    Enticement/Bribery offered if desired. :)

    Crumbs :)

So that's Deevor, Radavel, Azoun the Sage, Corvellin, Stomphoof, and of course jlighter (as he started this all off by hollering for a GM).

As for 'enticement' - er, I don't have a copy of the AP. If the prospective players could club together it would be appreciated.

Deevor: crawling sycophancy works better when there's a grain of truth to it :)

    Liberty's Edge

I'd be interested in playing. Even if it's just a hireling :)

    Liberty's Edge

I also don't have this AP. :( Which oddly enough is why I want to play in it so much. I like the horror aspect and since I don't have it I know literally nothing of how it is supposed to play out besides everyone starting off at the Professor funeral.

    :D

    Dillan Surestep

    Spoiler:

Ustalav, saying it causes vomit in the mouth, a horrid place full of horrors, nightmares, and absolutely no mercy. The people of the land either hide in fear or chase out what they don’t know or understand. Growing up as a half-breed…well let’s just say it’s not something you wish on your worst enemy. Dillan doesn’t remember much of his life, in fact if given the option he prefers it that way. Though no matter how hard you try there are some things you can’t forget.

Dillan knew if they caught him it would be his life. How was he to know he had stolen from the Scarzni? It’s not like they had a sign up saying it was theirs or anything. Besides he was starving, he needed food, warmth, anything to make his life better. He lived in an orphanage until the age of twelve. He never regretted leaving that place, the beatings were brutal and once he felt he understood enough of the world he attempted to make his own way. He survived by begging and stealing. Sure it wasn’t a wise trade to have but who would hire a Half-Elf. He attempted to earn honest work, take up duties as an apprentice but once his elven heritage was evident he was shown the curb.

He ducked into alley and hiding in the darkest corner he could find. He should be safe here. He sat silently waiting to hear their footsteps go past his hiding spot. He heard nothing. The Scarzni pretty much run everything in the blackmarket in Caliphas and in most of Ustalav for that matter. They have thugs, master thieves, con artists and some even rumor a strong assassination group. If one is to be involved in such matters one is either a member or they are soon executed. The Scarzni doesn’t take no too well when they offer someone employment.

They had found him; the aching head pain and the bindings reminded him of that. Was one of them waiting for him in that alley? “Think you can steal from us boy?” The thug asked, “We’ll teach you a lesson you’ll never forget.” The pain is what he remembers most. Once they pulled his head up and his pointed ears shown they knew his heritage. You see some of the Scarzni are locals, and those that are have the same disdain that others of Ustalav have for non-humans.

”A Half-Elf!” He said with disgust…then Dillan heard the blade leave its sheath. This was it, his end all for some food scraps and a blanket. He blacked out from the pain and when he woke at first he thought he was dead. He woke in a bed, the light from the fireplace providing warmth to the room. He started to look about the room then quickly the pain reminded him of his last memory. His hands to his ears and feeling that the tips were now gone. He wasn’t alone in the room, there was a man there and seeing Dillan move about he came to his side comforting him. “Rest easy now, you are safe.” His voice was friendly and Dillan couldn’t help but wonder if this was not just some elaborate torture. “How did I…”

“I found you in the alley.” The man sighed, “Left for dead. It looked like you needed some help.”

Professor Lorrimer was his name. He took in Dillan, gave him food, clothing and even employment. For the short time he was in Caliphas Dillans’ life had improved. He helped secure his home there, testing the locks, checking the home for various security weaknesses. There wasn’t much Dillan knew, but he did know how to break into a house. It seemed the Professor needed his skill, he was adamant about wanting his home safe. Occasionally he would go out of the city with him, normally to help him by-pass locks on old tombs and such. Finding old traps and removing the hazard they created. Professor paid him well for all this and even taught him a few things.

And now as time has passed somber news has come to Dillan and the memory of the meeting creeping back into his mind. The pain was still there when he touched his ears and now the pain moved into his soul. The one man who had cared for him, given him a chance and educated him had passed. No matter the risk, Dillan thought,I owe him respects.

    Input is welcome and appreciated!

    Also: Being Unemployed SUCKS balls.

Ditto the being unemployed sucking hard. Definitely know that feeling.

And don't worry about it. I'm in a Second Darkness PBP, and our GM was thinking he should buy us all gift-cards at the end of the first section to keep us playing and as an extra reward. We all were unanimous that a good GM deserves rewarding more than players do.

    OOC Thread for this game

I am amazed continually that people seem to see DMs as doing them a favour: I love DMing.

The exercise in futility that is job-hunting is getting me down. So here's a good thing to balance such time-wasting jumping through other people's hoops to just get told - if they bother to respond at all - that they aren't interested.

But never fear, I have got things set up in such a way that once I do get a job, the games will still continue. So don't worry as I disappear occasionally to go pound on doors, or at least, attend interviews. You'll hear the scream of joy clear across the pond. And the game will go on.

Rules. Um. Be nice to one another, at least OOC. Max hp & gold at first level. Try and drop by at least once a day, certainly once we start to play.

So who all are the players?

    -Deevor (Fighter, Wizard)
    -Radavel
    -Azoun the Sage (Rogue)
    -Corvellin
    -Stomphoof (Alchemist, Oracle, Summoner)
    -jlighter (Bard, Cleric, Rogue, Witch/Wizard)

    That sound about right Megan?

Great to see you got into this one Deevor. If this was a normal recruitment thread I would've suggested Deevor as he's a very good roleplayers and posts frequently :)

Well nuts, another opportunity missed. That'll teach me to, you know, sleep. :P

Have fun folks. The great hunt continues.

Haha hey if they are willing might as well right? :)

They can pay my rent instead. Already have everything I need for both KM and SS and i'm not planning on running any future AP's until at least after Jade Regent.

Hrm if the players are paying for the AP, that does sort of entice me to read it over and run it. Interesting idea.
