How does Magic Aura work?

So from the PRD:

Quote:
You alter an item's aura so that it registers to detect spells (and spells with similar capabilities) as though it were nonmagical, or a magic item of a kind you specify, or the subject of a spell you specify. If the object bearing magic aura has identify cast on it or is similarly examined, the examiner recognizes that the aura is false and detects the object's actual qualities if he succeeds on a Will save. Otherwise, he believes the aura and no amount of testing reveals what the true magic is.

I'm a bit confused about how you overcome it, so the identify spell I get, if you actually cast identify then you see "ah ha it is a magic aura, so I will just look under that aura and see what the real deal is."

For the new form of identifying an item in PFRPG, casting detect magic and studying the item for a few rounds, does this over come the Magic Aura spell, or does this fall under the category of "it fools detect spells"

As a follow up, if a wizard cast an illusion of "a grand treasure" that would automatically detect as "illusion" if detect magic was cast upon it, even if the players fail their will save upon interaction. Can Magic Aura be cast upon an illusionary object to trick people further?

Magic Aura target line says : "one touched object weighing up to 5 lbs./level"

I don't think that "an illusionary object" match the target line of the spell so I would say no.

For me, Magic Aura works on any kind of identification of a magic item.
