Player request for fixes

Savage Tide Adventure Path

First, I'm a player, not a DM, in an STAP game. I have read only a few of the threads here, to avoid spoilers.

That said, I have a little problem, and I'm looking for help. Our DM has been quite vocal about editing errors in the magazines, and I was hoping someone might have a list of corrections or fixes I could point him to.

For instance, we just finished (I think) Bullywug Gambit last night, and he pointed out that "the Huntress" text says both that she would fight to the death and that she would flee when knocked under 10hp.

Or in the basement encounter, apparently things were hiding in the east corner of the basement, making noises that could be heard from the west.

Don't know if there's a list of errors and corrections (I think not) but it's the DM's job to adapt on the fly.

That's my opinion, too, but I'm not the DM this time.

I do not think there is such a list.

That said, I think I have never read an adventure without any errors. That is what DM preparation is for.

I'm not quite sure what you mean here, are you saying your DM likes to point out the problems in the adventures, but doesn't seem to want (or doesn't know how) to fix them? Well, this forum is definitely the place to point your DM at. It contains heaps of advice on how to improve the Savage Tide campaign, including suggestions on errata / fixes. A couple of starting points might be:

finallyRunningSTAPAdviceAndCommentsWelcome
A lot of the interesting stuff is also going to be in the archives, so be prepared to run a few specific searches.

But ultimately, a lot of it comes down to your DM's preference in running pre-published games. I've had one DM who treats the written word like it's divine inspiration, come down from on high for him to run exactly as written, for better or worse, and it can be a pain. If that's your case too, then you might be fighting an uphill battle. Ultimately, every DM needs to realise that every piece of gaming material is a great starting point, which needs to be tailored to the specifics of your gaming group in order to make it as fun for everyone as possible. I've successfully run the Age of Worms adventure path, so know from personal experience that there are always a few contradictions and mistakes, as well as some glaring holes between adventures at times - the art of moving from a competent DM to a potentially great DM is tailoring the adventures for your group, smoothing over any parts that won't work for your group or just won't makes sense, and generally leading your players where they need to go while making it feel like it's actually all their ideas. I ran some adventures in the AOW almost exactly as written, while one in particular had the first section almost entirely re-worked in order to make the transition from A to B more natural and interesting rather than the tightly scripted "action waits for the PC's to arrive" as written.

Anyway, see if you can get your DM to have a good look through this forum - it's absolutely the best place for advice for a DM on how to get the most out of running the STAP. Hopefully a bit of time spent looking through here will inspire your DM to spend a little more time ironing out a few of those kinks... It's a pretty cool set of adventures, but nothing's perfect!

I'm sure he knows how to, he and I have been playing since 1e. He has done some fixes-- the above-mentioned bullywug ran off after we bashed her down. But he breaks the 4th wall by telling us about them before or after.

I think it's more he resents that these weren't caught before publishing. He's done editing work in the recent past, so that it wasn't done here is a burr under the saddle.

I also think his attitude to published modules has diverged from mine over the years. He'll run them out of the can, with only a little adaptation to the players or their characters. I've taken to cutting up modules for parts, and altering them all over the place. (I kinda wish I had the opportunity to run it, and maybe that's feeding my disgruntle.)

I'll see if I can get him to look in here.
