I was just curious if I'm missing something about this item. It's listed in the campaign setting as a purchasable magic item yet that book doesn't say what happens when an ioun stone is inserted. Is there more coming out about this cool item?

This question has been floating around the messageboards for some time. Most people assume the answer will be in upcoming Seeker of Secrets.

From the CoT player's guide,

It can be found in the campaign setting or in seekers of secrets, so you're right.

The campaign setting tells you what the basic wayfinder does. None of us knows yet what setting an ioun stone in one will do.

The only indication I've seen is in the first Journal when Eando put the stone he found into his. The arrow swung from pointing the actual direction to point at...something. I'd guess it might be intended as a tool for GMs to point their PCs at adventure. For now, that's how I'd use it anyway.

In advance of official rules I guess you could have the kind of ioun stone guide what sort of adventure wayfinder ferrets out.
