PaizoCon General Discussion

Just an FYI for folks who are planning on staying at the Coast Bellevue Hotel for Paizocon.

If anyone who is going is looking at saving a little cash and is definitely going to be at the event, you can pay in advance for the room.

Pros: you save about $125 for the full event duration compared to the guaranteed rate set aside for Paizocon (or you can get a townhouse style for about the same as a regular room at the convention rate).

Cons: you pay at the time the reservation is made and the reservation is non-refundable, so if there is any chance you would have to cancel coming to the event, this would not be an option for you.

Thought I would throw this out there for those of you (like me) who will definitely be there and are looking to save whatever amount they can in traveling across the country for the Con ... or have some extra spending cash ;).

cool. that's very useful.
did you find out what the 'cutoff date' is to get this deal?

i had my 'sure thing' situation becone not-quite-so 'sure thing',
so am looking into alternatives now...

The pre-pay reservation needs to be made 10 days or more in advance of the arrival date. Info can be found on their site. Here's a link to the Pay Now and Save offer.

zylphryx - this is cool!

I wonder what the townhouse suites look like?
That might be fun...

Here's the description...

Townhouse Suite
Updated in a traditional style with tones of green and cherry wood furniture, these suites offer floor to ceiling windows overlooking either the pool or garden courtyard.

* Living area on the first floor
* Includes a microwave, refrigerator and sink
* Spiral staircase leading to a king bedroom loft

Sounds pretty snazzy.

Yeah, I checked that out...

It's more expensive, but having a sleeping area somewhat separate from the main room might be good if some people want to run a game while others want to sleep...? (also, having a fridge is a plus)

I looked into the pre-pay option (which lowers price), and here's what I came up with:
for 2 Nights (12th & 13th, I think I may fly in ~8am Friday), prepaid (10+ days advance):
Standard Room/ 2 Beds: 152
Town House/ King Loft: 221 (incl. tax)
+20?/+person?

I could consider sharing the Loft with 3-4 people...
Options, options...

I thought the standard room/2 beds was $129 for the Con rate?
I wonder if there is a Con rate for the pre-paid option...

Having a fridge and microwave could save $$ on food too.

The Exchange

Yes, we need zylphryx to give us a price compared to the 129 rate offered for Con.

Standard Room, king size bed (two bed options were also available at the same rate) check in 11th, check out 15th ... $374.09 including tax. At the Con rate it would have been $516 before tax (or about as much as the townhouse at the pre-pay price for the same time frame).

The cost breakdown was along the lines of $99+change for the 11th and 14th and $69+change for the 12th and 13th.

Wow, that's a substantial difference in cost. I may have to look into this, especially since one of my fellow gamers and his wife may be joining us.

Damn, I'm definitely looking into this. That could help keep me around through Sunday, instead of ditching early due to monetary constraints. Thanks for the heads-up!

Just a heads-up, pre-pay here means absolutely and totally not refundable.
The townhouses are $134 on the pre-pay and $150 with the more lenient refund policy (which is not clear - on the phone they said fully refundable, on the web, my wife informs me, there is a minimum charge of one night's stay).

This was news to me, hope it helps.

Pay now $596 and change compared to AAA member rate of $654 and changefor the townhouse ... the Paizocon rate for a regular room was $169/night (or about $516 before tax). For a regular room the rate difference is now $487 (pay now) vs. $531 (AAA rate). When I made my reservation last month it was about $100 cheaper (on the total bill) than it is now.

But yes, as noted in the OP:

Does anyone know if this 'advance pay - no refund' booking is a new trend in the hotel world? We've got a young child, so nothing is ever guaranteed for us.
