Done. Sorry to make the unilateral decision, everyone. I hope you like what I wrote.

That was awesome.

Oh and sorry for not acknowledging your post, Dreamer. We'd love to have you on board, I'm sure!

A cleric would be a big help. :D

Dark Archive

Thanks. I tried to put a little something for everyone in there.

Very nice. Thanks for handling it IC, too. And it does make sense in light of her vision quest that she would not want to be hired out while supposedly on a spiritual journey.

And should PsiFox return, there is always the off chance that she didn't make it far before being captured by gobins and whatnot...

Here are the basics on my proposed character, based somewhat on the "Kyra" example PC at the back of the Pathfinder supplements. Any suggestions and feedback are welcome. I hope to roll stats and post my official PC profile tonight or tomorrow. I'm really looking forward to playing.

NAME: Salome
BIRTHPLACE: Qadira
CLASS/RACE: Female Human Cleric
ALIGNMENT: NG
DIETY: Sarenrae
DOMAINS: Healing, Glory
PRESTIGE CLASS GOAL: Radiant Servant of Sarenrae at 5th/6th level, with additional Fire domain.
(See Radiant Servant of Pelor in "Complete Divine" p. 52. I'd like to replace Sun requirement with Glory -- similar spells, some overlap, and Glory looks more impressive.)

BACKSTORY:
As I've been working this character out in my head, her backstory has become rather elaborate, but here's what's important to know:

Living on the streets of Qadira, Salome was attacked by a gang in an alley. Garjjan De, a Radiant Servant of Sarenrae, rescued and healed Salome and invited her to follow him to Sarenrae. Not ready to follow the spiritual path, Salome decided to train in combat and defense, but kept Sarenrae's holy symbol around her neck for protection. Eventually choosing to be a cleric, Salome trained at a monastery for a few years, but left due to conflict with the abbot, Mejjur De. Salome is now searching for Garjjan De, hoping he can teach her how to become a Radiant Servant. Along the way, she is dedicated to fighting evil, protecting the weak, healing the wounded, and bringing light to dark places -- as Garjjan De did for her so many years ago.

HOOK:
Salome was part of a caravan from the East, travelling to Sandpoint for the dedication of the cathedral. Camped a few miles outside of town, the caravan was attacked by goblins. After fighting off the attack, the caravan disbanded and Salome continued to Sandpoint, hoping to offer her services and worship at the shrine of Sarenrae.

DESCRIPTION:
A descendant of the desert lands, Salome has a petite but muscular frame, olive skin, fiery amber eyes, and dark hair which she keeps covered. Like a lioness, Salome is fiercely protective (or perhaps just fierce), independent, and ready to spring at any moment. Her life experience has left her wary and jaded, yet deeply compassionate and clear-eyed.

Cool!

Female Human Cleric

Nearly-done profile for new character. Let me know what you think.

Male Human - dash of elf Miniature painter/ Heroic

I need new armour to go with my fancy new longsword. The cleric has a higher AC than me.... *goes off grumbling, looking for plate armour* ;D

She looks good and has a fun background.

Turning Undead - I would have mentioned this before, but it was irrelevant without a Cleric in the party.

I prefer the Turning Undead damages them approach from the Complete Divine. Following the PHB approach, turned undead run away. This seems overly clumsy as in a dungeon setting the undead likely cannot completely escape, so the PCs have to chop through them anyway. However, the Complete Divine does not cover modifiers to turning or greater turning, so here is my approach.

Turn undead is a standard action which causes 1d6/cleric level in positive energy damage to all undead within 30 feet. Affected undead may make a Will save DC 10 + 1/2 Cleric Level + Cha bonus + Turn Undead modifiers to take half damage. Turn undead modifiers are modifiers to the Turn Check (the d20 roll) in the SRD parlance. Turn resistance provides a bonus to the undead's save.

Greater turning inflicts twice as much damage (i.e., full damage on a successful save and 2x damage on a failed save).

Rebuke/Command undead also work differently, but since none in the party have that ability, it doesn't matter.

Please note the following tactical difference. In the SRD method turned undead flee from the cleric and do not attack the party. This potentially allows the party to escape an undead encouter without being attacked. The Complete Divine method damages undead, but does not cause them to flee or prevent them from attacking the party.

Very nice. I like the addition of yet another regional flavor to the party mix. Looking forward to seeing how her jaded personality plays out with the others; this is going to be fun!

Dreamer: nicely done first post.

Male Human - dash of elf Miniature painter/ Heroic

Wow, really fun to read. Well-written! I did think that our PCs must look like a bunch of nutters.

I guess we are kind of waiting because we know Slidell has a laundry list of questions to air. Is that cool, or should we just move on?

Male Human - dash of elf Miniature painter/ Heroic

I always wonder where Rags gets all the questions from... but then I'm like that in rl. "Oh, I didn't think of that..."

Yeah, I'd never make most of the conclusions he makes either.

I think we should give him a little while before we move on and resolve the questions out of sequence later on.

Dark Archive

I'm kind of 50-50. It seems odd to miss Slidell's questions, at the same time I'd like to keep things moving. Perhaps we can give him until tonight--it sounds like he is super-busy, and I think he usually posts at night (if I'm not mistaken).

Hey Guys (AND gals!) I'm back from traveling, and should be back to posting on my regular (?!?) schedule now.

Welcome to Dreamer! And thanks, I think we're gonna need the help soon from @JSL's comments! I hope your ready to at least put up with a crazy mage, cuz it would suck if your 'ran out' of heals right as you got to him every time! (hehe) Haven't had time to look at the character, but your background looks great!

Thanks for putting up with me over the holidays, I was mostly posting just to let you know I was still there. From now on I promise full-Slidell characterizations in all posts!

Let the mayhem commence!
(Now if i can find my list of questions,.... grumbly-muck,...)

Glad to have you back Rags! Happy holidays, happy New Year and all that.

JSL, I plasn to go down to the Fatman's Feedbag later tonight and see if I can't get some additional info out of a few local sailors.
I'll buy them a few drinks ect and then ask them about Tobyn's daughter and what 'KGW' stands for.
Apparently unsuccessfully. My Gather Info suck enought that I'm not even going to bother linking them.
I'm also going to commission a suit of Masterwork Studded Leather at Savah's Armory (or the Red Dog Smithy, if that would be more apprpriate). The dragonscale hide shirt is cool but it cuts down on my Tumble way to much to use when I'm on land.

Ok. Savah's would be the right place for that. Using the Craft rules, it would take a long time to make the armor, so let's just assume they have some on hand and can adjust it for you and have it ready the next morning.

What happened? The game thread just exploded!

"Where is Ehlissa?" indeed? I actually don't know. Yet.

Ack! forgot to add in the last 100xp for last week! (This week?!?)
Now maybe I can finish updating my character profile.
I still have to add 2 new spells I think, and re-select spell's mem'd.

Can't wait to see if Slidell has a new friend, or not. ;D

(Hey! If that 'Doctor' guy can lose a companion and get a new one, why can't Sli?!?)

Fabesmini wrote:

Nope, just me. I had all that pent up over the holiday, your safe now,... for a lil' bit.

;P

I hope Ehlissa's alright. In OOC, I'm guessing that she caught an infection from the lil' buggers dirty dog-slicer? That's harsh. If you can't kick it soon, maybe we'll make a new friend in time to keep it from getting worse.

Our game thread appears to be working when I go there, but another PbP thread I'm on has been doing some goofy things--ate a post in the game thread that appears under the profile's 'recent posts' section, etc.

EDIT: just like this post disappeared. There is bugs in the system.

Speaking of which, I lost track at 1320 xp. I think that included Christmas week. So, are we up to 1420, now?

EDIT (Again): Bizarre things are afoot on the ol' messageboards today. Okay, I need clarification. Slidell and the yet-to-be-introduced Salome are at the White Deer, correct? Vesh, Mal, Corran, and Ehlissa are at the Rusty Dragon, right?

Male Human - dash of elf Miniature painter/ Heroic

I still had 1000 on my sheet haha

- I hadn't actually seen JSL's post when I posted that just now. I thought you two had had a wild flurry of improv, but then it all made sense when I saw his post. :D

Hm, we might have to rewind Fabes, I thought that I read Salome was staying at the white deer Inn, And I haven't had Slidell move from there yet. That's why I had him 'meet' Salome.

Of course, that might be funny, if Ehlissa was so ill last night that she didn't realize that she was in the wrong Inn! ;)

santinj@ wrote:

That sounds correct as of today (1/4/08).

That was my understanding when I wrote my last in game post - though I gave Slidell the option of moving to the RD. However, he has apparently opted to stay at the White Deer. Salome is at the White Deer.

When I saw that Salome was at the White Deer Inn, I decided to stay there, to let him have his 'angst time', and maybe meet Salome. I was (and still do) plan to have him move closer to the others. It just looks like it might take a bit. :P

Character Sheet updated, new spells added to spellbook, and adjusted spells Mem'd.
I took care not to use Meta gaming in the selection of spells mem'd. (Believe me, it wasn't easy!)

NOW I just have to adjust all of my OTHER character sheets! No rest for the wicked!

Male Human - dash of elf Miniature painter/ Heroic

I've done it again, haven't I?

Sigh...

I don't really know how to reconcile the fact that I made a massive blunder again...

Er... Ehlissa went to check on Naelah at the White Deer and then was too ill to go back to the Rusty Dragon so Naelah told her to stay in her room?

EDIT: I ran with that. Sorry!

No, this is fine - better than fine, actually.

I never said Ehlissa woke up at the Dragon, only that she woke up sick. I suppose Slidell did not notice you in the common room because you were sick and miserable and huddled in the corner or something. Now you, Slidell, and Salome are all in the White Deer common room.

Brilliant bit of work to get the sicko to the healer so quickly ;)

Male Human - dash of elf Miniature painter/ Heroic

Just to say...

From Saturday/Sunday midnight GMT I shall be without ready access to teh interwebs. Funnily enough taking part in this game/story is ranking up there with not talking to my gf on Skype every night! :D I am that upset about it. But she's staying with me for two weeks from Thursday!

I don't know when I shall be back online with a chance to post, so my posts tomorrow will be my last for a while.

I am happy with either our esteemed DM/story guide JSL to run Ehlissa in NPC mode or for one of my fellows to sub her (if anyone so desires).

Hah! Brilliant!
No worries Fabes, your recovery was flawless!

Boy, do the mysteries just seem to be piling up on us or what? Look out Scooby-Doo, you ain't got nothin' on us!
:D

Male Human - dash of elf Miniature painter/ Heroic

Am now writing this from my mother's laptop. This morning my PC decided that it wouldn't load the Windows partition of my hard drive. Grr. Fortunately I have a recovery disk that can grab files from that partition and put them on my Linux partition.

Problem. Linux partition has no internet access, thanks to my Linksys wireless adaptor being *%$^^ing useless at working with Linux.

These things are sent to try us...

Male Human - dash of elf Miniature painter/ Heroic

Now I'm back on my PC on the landing using Ubuntu! LOL It hates wireless so I've had to drag my whole PC desk and stretch the cable to the router for about 20ft! But I'm back and get my files! And then I shall be without for 2 weeks! haha

@Ragadolf:

As the conversation between Salome and Slidell is taking shape in my mind, I feel like I need to offer some reassurance here. Salome is someone who has lived a hard -- and hardening -- sort of life. Granted, she's a cleric of Sarenrae, but she has a long way to go to meeting her personal ideal. She has been let down, abandoned, and abused by people she should have been able to trust. As a result, before trusting anyone, she needs to "kick the tires," so to speak, to make sure that this new person (and the group he represents) can take her at her worst. If he passes the test (and has a high enough CHA score), we can let the jabs and banter fly. If not, she will stay civilly distant and politely guarded.

I have one more "challenge" planned, after which the dialogue should be more fun.

Avatar to avatar, I hold you in the highest regard.

A couple of reminders: you are supposed to check in with Horatio at the garrison and Malcolm's new suit of armor is ready for pick up at Savah's. Let me know of any other plans for the day. I think its safe to say Ehlissa is on bedrest for the immediate future and Salome will probably be by her side.

I'll be happy to handle Ehlissa in RP while Fabes is gone - though she will probably not contribute much to the dialogue but will be in character keeping the group on task and being a bit of a leader. In combat, I'd prefer if someone else took the reins - maybe the person with the closest initiative?

@Dreamer~

No worries mate! (Can you tell I just had a marathon of ALL THREE 'Pirates of the Carribean' movies on my Christmas present?!?)

(Well, what ELSE is a new big screen HD tv for!?!)

All kidding aside, (and I CAN do that for brief periods of time!) No worries, though I appreciate the heads up! As you can tell by all of my previous posts, I enjoy playing this type of character to the hilt. And while I enjoy playing up his 'fun' side, He also has issues. Which I should be able to make more apparent if we manage to keep this game playing thru more of the series, and get closer to the 'Big Bad Guy'.
(Maybe I should talk to @JSL~ about making his background a little 'closer to home' like I suspect that Vesh's is?)

Actually, My posts have been a little,... off kilter lately. A lot of personal stuff what with the holidays, family and et al,... but I'm working on getting 'back in the groove'. Let's just say that I'LL never intentionally tick anybody off, though I can see Slidell managing it easily enough. But if Salome can see her way to 'give him a chance', at distance or otherwise, He'll never INTENTIONALLY disappoint you.

(And as far as his CHA score, it's just high enough to get me into trouble, which is what makes him so much fun!)
:D

And, Avatar to Avatar, Thanks. That's probably the nicest thing anyone's ever told me in a post! See you inside!

Erg.

Long story as to why I have been away, but the short of it is - I can move my hands well enough to type again.

I am terribly sorry to do this to you (for a second time), but I'm back.

If you'll have me, of course.

Let me just say two words:

Motorcycle accident.

EDIT: Oh my god.

I just read the farewell post you made on my behalf @Santj. That was beautiful. And you brought tears to my eyes.

Truly, this is one of the greatest (if not, the greatest) groups of people I have ever played with. If you wish, we can leave Naelah on the note you have done so (which was beautiful), but I feel that I would very much like to return.

I love you all.

I for one completly understand (through sympathy not personal expeirence thankfully) and would be happy to have you return. My vote would be to have Naelah return at some appropriate point. She was fun to have around and added something to the party (CLWs for one thing) and I'd like to have her back.

Holy crap, dude. Are you okay? My feeling is, of course you can come back!

Perhaps Naelah, upon leaving Sandpoint, actually realizes that Vesh is a stud-muffin. (I have no idea if "stud-muffin" tranlates into Australian. You'd think it would, but I've been burned by the whole "fanny pack" thing.)

No, seriously, I'd love it if Naelah swooped in to save the day when the party was up a creek.

More importantly, I'm glad that you are okay, alive, and in the mood to post.

@PsiFox (and everyone else)

First off, I am very glad you're alive and as well as can be expected. I don't know how much catching up you've had a chance to do, so let me introduce myself. I'm JSL's wife and have been following the story (although not the discussion) since the campaign began. When concerns surfaced around Christmas about the long absence of the beloved Naelah, I offered to step in on either a temporary or permanent basis to play the healer for the group: Salome, a cleric of Sarenrae from the deserts of Qadir (though no one is sure, based on what has been published thus far whether or not there are deserts in Qadir; it just seemed to make sense and part of the fun is making things up as we go).

In addition to being a full-time healer, I designed the Salome character to be a contrast to Naelah (I considered the anti-Naelah for a while), without overlapping too much, so please don't feel you have been displaced.

I don't know how things will play out. I know your presence has been missed, and I'm OK with whatever resolution the group comes up with.

May you have a full and speedy recovery. - Dreamer

It's up to JSL. But, my vote is to keep both characters in the group.

Psifox, glad to have you back and hope you are mending well.

I am okay proceeding with 7 characters. I think it shores up the party in case anyone else is away from the game for a few weeks.

Naelah can come back, but I think a few conditions need to apply (this is more out of necessity to the story than to anything "punative")

1. Her exit was very in character and cannot be retracted. She does not have the medallion of Gozrah and has not been hired by Sandpoint.

2. Her return will also have to be in character and motivated by something more substantial than "I got bored so I decided to come back."

3. With the addition of Salome, Naelah does not *need* to be a healer - though it still helps. If PsiFox would like, he can retrain something else in place of the Spontaneous Healer feat and write it into the story of her return. If you would like to keep the feat, that is fine. I just want to give you this opportunity in case you felt the feat was a concession to party needs and not the direction you wanted to go with the character.

4. Naelah will have to return at a time of my choosing so I can work it into the story. I have already selected a time and it will be soon. However, how soon it is depends on how quickly the rest of the party gets to that point. With that in mind, I will speed up time in the IC thread a bit to try to get PsiFox involved ASAP.

PsiFox, would you be willing to ghostwrite Ehlissa in the meantime? I will indicate to you via spoiler when Naelah is about to return so you will have a heads up and can prepare.

I hate Retconning, so I agree totally.

This makes sense, I shall have to think a little on a suitable reason (in fact, one involving Veren is staring to form in my mind).

I'm playing with the thought of the Air Devotion feat (Complete Champion Pg. 54), but I may still keep the Spontaneous Healer feat, as it does fit Naelah rather well. This does, however, mean that I can focus more on my Prestige Class (Arcane Hierophant). Which means that Druid 3 will probably be the last Druid level I take until I can qualify for the class.

No problem, I'd be happy to. Considering she's unconscious now, that make my job pretty simple. :)

Thank you to everyone for their kind words.

@Dreamer: I noticed the appearance of the anti-Naelah, and I think it's great. Now, wouldn't it be really cool if Salome and Naelah forged a strong bond? That would just be awesome.

1)-Psifox is back YAY!
2)-Motorcycle accident,... OWCH!

You must be one tough mo-fo dude, because I've known people who wrecked on bikes before, and THEY weren't 'cleared by the doc' this quick!

And if anyone has to ask, YES i vote for Neahlah to come back!
(You might want to be careful about coming back for Vesh tho, you don't want a JEALOUS mad mage on your hands now do you?!?) ;P

Again, best wishes for your speedy recovery, and God bless you.
