This is a must see film. It's really really good. I won't ruin it for everyone, but this is a fun, exciting fantasy film.

spoiler below for those who HAVE seen it:

Spoiler:

It is one of the few films I've seen in a while that has a good story, fun action and is also consistenly funny. Would that "World's End" had been as good as this. It doesn't bother trying to be pc and shows you some hilarious stuff that could be nicely used in a game, such as:
- what can happen when you polymorph people and animals
- one of the coolest fantasy airships ever
- How to do a fight scene to the "Can-Can"

I read the book when it first came out, however many years ago. Definitely plan to see the movie.

I adore the book and thought that the adaptation was done very well, even though Neil didn't write it. I like De Niro as Cap'n Shakespeare a lot, though that didn't make the movie for me. The boy who played Tristan NAILED it, fo sho.

Overall, pretty good. I'm happy with it.

I really liked it. It has been probably about seven years since I read the book, but from what I remembered, the movie was pretty faithful. Oh, and it was really good!

In some ways I thought it was better than my memories of the book because I remembered the last chapter or two feeling like they had been rushed. And also

Spoiler:
in the book there was a big thing about "two Mondays coming together" that didn't happen at all in the movie, but I thought it was kind of a big deal in the book. At least they did have Mr. Monday in the town, though.

I was quite satisfied with this movie and I hope it does well. Mr. Gaiman deserves more fame than he has, IMO.

The Exchange

I saw the ad...HERO promises potential girlfriend "I'll get that falling star for you"...beats up on old guy who wont let him leave village THRESHOLD GUARDIAN...encounters chick who fell from the sky HERALD...goes on run...meets a sky pirate who decides to help MENTOR...being chased by a Prince ANTIHERO-SHADOW who wants the girl who fell from the sky because she announces the QUESTER. THe chick who fell from the sky and hero are a threat to the greater SHADOW...the witch coven who dispatch the a witch to "deal with the situation". The Witch is also a Werewolf SHAPESHIFTER in pursuit.

wow...impressive flick - it picks up all the generic Hollywood character profiles. Cant wait to see.

My wife and I saw it for a second time last Friday and it is was still awesome the second time. I think it is one the best movies I have seen in a couple of years , if you are thinking about watching it do and tells others too. Every time I tell my friends that I went to see it they have never even heard of the movie so I don't think they advertised very well.

~wistles in amazement~ Damn... This was easily one of my top five movies of the year. Very, very good. Go see it if you can!

It was definitely one of the best movies I've seen in a while. It was well done and a lot more entertaining than most of the crap that passes for movies these days.

I just saw this on DVD. I don't remember it even being out in the U.S. Nice little story, sort of on the lines of Princess Bride to me.

What I liked most was that closing song by Take That. They were never very popular here in the U.S. and I admit that I dismissed them as a generic boyband, but that song is quite good. I really hope it gets nominated (and wins) as best song at this year's Oscars. If "Into the West" could do it, "Rule the World" could, too. I'm worried by the low profile of both the movie and the band in America.

Very good movie; a fairy tale for adults. Love, fantasy, humor, witches, flying ships, falling stars, magic, ghosts, princes and a gay pirate (DeNiro kicks Depp's ass) to boot (pun intended). What's not to like?

A very solid movie, and hey, Paul long time no "see."

Still hating 3.x bards after all these years,

LOL, I still remember that rant, GGG. You ruffled some feathers but it still made me laugh hard.

Saw it last night. It was whimsical, and pulled one along with the lazy speed of a fantasy mini-series. It didn't spend much time establishing this fantasy realm's culture and history, but it wound up not really mattering. Like Princess Bride, the film assumes you understand the fantasy is more a backdrop to the humor and romance.

I enjoyed it, though I wasn't happy with most the casting or the 2002 level SFX--though the way they depicted spell effects was often quite flavorful and novel. It was a mature script and the writers let even the small characters have their own unique voices and agendas.

At the end I found myself thinking, "I liked it but I will never watch it again." Still... thumbs up.

Definitely worth seeing. Good plot, good characters, and the FX were not overdone (which is easy to do).

Liberty's Edge

I saw the movie earlier this summer. I enjoyed the movie quite a lot, although the score for the film really put me off. It always launched into these epic horn and drum pieces between scenes that just didn't feel right for the fairy tale feeling of the rest of the story.

A very awesome flick. It ranks up there with the best in my fantasy film library along with Willow and Legend (I like Lord of the Rings but Willow and Legend really inspired fantasy in me when i was a little kid). My wife cried at the end of Stardust and proclaims it as her favorite movie of all time which is odd since she has seemed to be falling out of fantasy. Oh well, maybe this is one step closer to her getting back into a game!

I am on a one man quest to promote the film and the theme song.

Here's a fan-made video showing the song summing up the movie pretty well.

You can also see the lads ,or should I say dads (since they are all pushing 40 now), performing the song on a British award show.

I really enjoyed the movie, but I disagree here. I am generally a fan of DeNiro and I applaud him for expanding his range, however, he seemed a bit stiff to me. Maybe it was because he was not trying to over do it. Maybe I just can not see DeNiro as a cross dresser.

Shout out to Dexter Fletcher (Hotel Babylon).

This was a really fun movie. I saw it twice on my trip to China on the plane. I will probably buy the DVD. If you like The Princess Bride, you should like this one.

Thumbs up!

I liked it well-enough, but I'm always wary of seeing a movie based on a book, as the movie almost always suffers by comparison. And when I say "book" here, I'm talking about the graphic novel version, illustrated by the incomparable Charles Vess. If there was a subsequent novelization of this, I'm not familiar w/ it.

Anyway, certainly very enjoyable. Lots of humor. More of a feel-good movie than the original work, though.
