Though some may not realize this, Liz had a hand in choosing some of the stories that appear in this Anthology. The Top 10 stories from our 2010 Pathfinder Fiction Contest which Liz was a judge in now appear in this book, re-edited, revised and rewritten. I am proud to say that Wayfinder threw down for this one as much as we did.
We just took it to the next level.

Wow! Pretty disappointing to see that my story didn't appear in the anthology since I was one of the judges picks for honorable mention last year with Nahdep's Journey. You can really imagine my surprise when I went to the site and saw that my story was gone (It can still be found on the site, but no longer in connection to the 2010 contest) as well as my honorable mention in last years contest. I cannot express my disappointment in this revisionist bit of editing on the site's part. I guess I won't be sending that entry to this years contest after all.

Mine did go from "honorable mention" to "29th place" (out of 60 I think it was?) But being the first year I'm willing to give it some leeway and continue to look forward to future years.
If I don't have a story submitted by the end of the month, it's because "Devil His Due" is giving me some issues in my head, not because of lack of support of the endeavor.

To be fair, Tokoz and many other authors sought us out after the contest with a mind to work on their stories and improve them. We felt that those who took this initiative to reach out to us deserved to be rewarded. Not everyone got into the Anthology. Many of the writers that joined didn't follow up on edits to their stories. At the time your story received an honorable mention, there wasn't even an Anthology idea on the table. It wasn't even thought of. Had you come and worked on our site, I am fairly certain you would be in those pages. The Contest is about Pathfinder Chronicler reaching out to the community for support and new members. That is why you can go to the site and work on your contest entry with other writers. We firmly believe in a group effort. There is absolutely nothing stopping you from joining today, working on your contest entry while simultaneously working on your story Nahdep's Journey, to be published to the site and printed in next year's Pathfinder Chronicler Volume II.
I spent 2000 dollars on this project and got about 800 back, but I really want you to know that I am trying to kick start something here for the community. I will take away every excuse you have to be upset because it squarely lands on your shoulders. If you want published than let's do it.
As for the honorable mentions being taken down, that just happened a couple of nights ago. We are going through a major housekeeping on the site. For the moment, it is down while we figure out what to do with those five stories (among many others). For sure it isn't up to me. The members of the site will decide if those stories will be integrated under Short Story Fiction or continue being honored. My opinion, the Top 3 of every contest should be the ones honored because that was what we promised them. Had we told them that their winning entries would sit beside 12 other stories that were in the contest, that would not have been much of an honor. Again though, that is just my opinion and the group decides, as it always has.

The Anthology was a "Best of Pathfinderchronicler.net" work, not a "best of the contest" work. Stories that were selected were selected for a reason. You only cheat yourself by not entering this year.
If you work hard WITH the editors and join the community you will improve your story from a "honorable mention" to an actual placing story.

I can only encourage folks to get involved with the PFChronicler site in order to improve your writing, get feedback, give feedback, etc. Reading other folks stories and having them comment on yours is an insanely good way of improving your own techniques. I'm lucky enough to have a girlfriend who also writes, and having a second pair of eyes on your fiction is a blessing. A larger online group of folks could only help more.

@Dorgar: I understand your feelings of disappointment about not being in the anthology. Having worked on several publishing projects, I want you to know that it is no slight (intentionally or otherwise) to not get a place in the published book. Lots of worthy stories did not get in, for a variety of reasons. It helps, as an author, to develop a thick skin.
I can't speak to the website's choices about how to file the past contest stories, but I can say advocating for yourself and your work is one the best things you can do, which is why a)I'm glad you've expressed your feelings here, and b)I encourage you to keep in touch with the website and join the community and express your thoughts there, too (in a respectful way, of course).

You (Pathfinderchronicler.net) have the right of course to put any stories, or omit any from your anthology. It is your anthology. I was very proud when my story received an honorable mention last year. It felt like an accomplishment worthy of a little pride. From my correspondence with Montlave after the contest I learned that each judge got to pick a favorite that wasn't in the top 5. Thus the honorable mention to me at least in a way seemed a big deal, and the cause for my previous post. Until a few nights ago the four finalist and the honorable mentions were the stories that were connected to the contest. I guess as an author you want to defend your work and see it get the recognition it earned. I wish you (pathfinderchronicler.net) all the best in the future and success in your contest. It is an awesome thing to have a chance for your work to be in front of Mr. Sutter.

The stakes have never been higher for Pathfinder Chronicler Anthology II. Enter the contest and get into the Top 10 to earn your free ticket into the book. Or take your entry that didn't make the cut and improve it with our editors (by becoming a member) until it's worthy to be in print. If you don't like contests, bring your story from last year's contest or try something new and become a member.
There is more than one way to get into the next Anthology and we are waiting for you.
