Towering, gloomy and impressive, the orc fortress stands on top of a bare rocky platform. A sloped ramp connects the gateway of the fortress. Orc kings and shamans of the past built the fortress over a conquered dwarven settlement. Nothing remains of the settlement but the crypt level, far beneath the ground. The orc fortress consists of three levels plus two underground levels. The ground level hosts barracks and troop lodgings as well as a defensive system made of arrow slits and other devices. Two sturdy portcullises protect the main courtyard. On level one, more barracks are found and a great number of catapults defend the fortress from all sides. Level two houses the warlord's apartments and a great balcony overlooking the entire area. Below the ground level, there is the temple area. The Temple of the Eye dominates the area and the clerics' lodgings surround the temple. A secret way connects this level with an underground cavern complex. Deeper is found the old dwarven crypt complex, now converted to orcs' crypts. Some suggestions for using the fortress follow.

  • A princess has been kidnapped by an orc warlord and taken to the fortress. The PCs are charged with the duty to rescue her. An old shaman shows the party a secret entrance below the fortress.
  • An army of the good has besieged the fortress for months. The war is at a stalemate. In order to solve the problem, the commander of the good army sends the PCs through a secret passage underground with orders to kill the orc warlord. The PCs are betrayed and captured, and the army of good is blackmailed with the PCs lives. The PCs must flee and perhaps kill the warlord.
  • The fortress has been abandoned for centuries, after falling under the armies of good. The PCs find shelter in the fortress during a stormy night. The fortress is cursed and shifts into a demiplane where the ghosts of the orcs fight their last battle forever. The PCs must find a way to exit the demiplane.
  • The PCs are captured and taken to the fortress. While inside, they learn about a wicked orc shaman who plans to extend the orcs' domain over the surrounding regions using a powerful magic device. The PCs must find and destroy the device.

The Blueprints product line offers you old-fashioned blueprint-style maps for your adventures and campaigns. Each map includes a blueprint version and a standard black-and-white version. The maps are all vector-based for maximum print resolution. Despite their old-fashioned appearance, each map offers a degree of customization by taking full advantage of pdf technology. A small control bar (which will not be printed) on each map allows you to turn the grid on and off, eliminate the room numbers, fill the walls, or hide doors and furniture.

Each product features a classic fantasy adventure location: a dungeon, a keep, a temple complex, a thieves' guild and so on. You can use these maps as reference to build your own adventures or simply have them at hand in case your players go in an unexpected direction during the campaign.

While offering you the best quality, these products are really inexpensive.

An RPG Resource Review

4/5

About as spiky and pleasant as your average orc, this fortress squats high amidst the mountains - and looks pretty chilly! As always, you need to supply the story and anything over and above the bare bones of contents, but if you have ideas but no time or talent for mapping this will come in useful. Look through the fortress and ideas will come.

Of course, you might decide not to let orcs live there at all, or not any more. Someone else, someone nastier, may have taken over. The choice is yours. This product is a good half-way house between having to do everything for yourself and having a fully-detailed scenario - ideal for the creative person looking for a setting to spawn ideas, or who wants a nice mountain lair for his villain...

The entire fortress is mapped out in both blue and black, with the usual customisable features: you can have the furniature provided or not, show room numbers, display the scale grid and decide whether you want the main walls filled in solid colour or displayed in outline. A handy numbered list page is provided for you to jot down notes linked to locations on the map - maybe you want a numbered version for yourself and a blank one showing just the outline for the players to look at - maybe a sketch provided for them by a rather artistic spy!

0one Games continues to fill the niche they have carved for themselves with imaginative tools that inspire DMs to start coming up with their own ideas. (I think it may have been a mistake to write this review just before going to bed!)
