Blunt; Alyona says what's on her mind. She was raised as royalty in a land where no one would dare to contradict her. Arrogant; As a Jadwiga Alyona considers herself the direct descendant of a god-like being. She's used to looking down her nose at everything. Background:
Alyona Elvanna was born in the royal palace in Irrisen in 4701 AR. She is the daughter of Cassioche Elvanna. Alyona’s father was a lesser known Jadwiga male named Sevastyan Vasilliovna, an older brother of Nazhena Vasilliovna. Alyona was raised in the manner typical of the many Jadwiga females flitting about Whitethrone. She was given a first rate education and encouraged to constantly compete with her sisters and cousins. Alyona was a kind and gentle girl by nature, remarkably beautiful even from a young age. It was not easy for her to have to constantly compete with the other girls. She would much rather have made friends with them. But they were cruel and mean to her, as they were taught to be. Most of them were desperately jealous of Alyona’s beauty and resented the position given her as a daughter of Cassioche. Sevastyan loved her dearly, and constantly doted on her. He never chastised her for her “weakness” like her mother and all the other Jadwiga adults in her life did. He simply accepted her for who she was, and loved her unconditionally. Eventually Alyona toughened up, and learned to keep her true feelings between herself and her father. As she got older it became apparent that she wasn’t nearly as smart as many of the other Jadwiga daughters in her generation. Amongst common people she would have been considered clever, but she was no genius. The other girls around her excelled in the magic of the Winter Witches while she lagged behind. Rather than give up, she used her looks and charisma to draw a group of followers around her who supported her and helped her with her studies and in the intrigue between the Jadwiga children. More than once she had to use her followers to intimidate, embarrass, or on a few occasions hurt her competition. She didn’t enjoy doing these things, but it was them or her. Her father understood her ambivalent attitude towards the Jadwiga life, but her mother and aunt Nazhena did not. Cassioche and Nazhena weren’t fooled by Alyona’s looks and charm. They knew her true feelings, and thought her weak. Nazhena convinced Cassioche that it was time to teach the girl a lesson, like she had been taught when she was young. They believed Sevastyan was the source of her weakness, and that he must be removed. When Alyona was twelve, they commanded Sevastyan away from Whitethrone, and into the most dangerous battlefronts with the Linnorm Kings to the west. They made the transfer secret, and lied to Alyona, telling her that Sevastyan had simply left. They said he had abandoned them all. Sevastyan died a few weeks later in battle. His body was eaten by his worg soldiers and then everyone involved with the transfer and battle were executed. Nobody knows what really happened to him except Cassioche and Nazhena. Alyona was crushed, angry and scared. Now there was no one in her life that understood her, and she was all alone. Her grandmother had recently declared herself God Queen of the Witches. The entire world was going mad, Runelords had risen from the grave, meteoric impacts were darkening the skies. A Demon Lord and Herald of Rovagug were loose on Golarion. Then a portal tore open in the center of Whitethrone, and her home was slowly being devoured by a fey forest. The mood in Irrisen was one of secrecy, war and absolute compliance. It was stifling for Alyona. The pressure to perform was only getting stronger as Alyona got older, and it was getting harder and harder to suave her way through. Attempts on her life from the other young Jadwiga were becoming an almost daily occurrence, and she was barely managing to fend them off. She gradually burned all her bridges, and wore out her friendships by relying on them too strongly without contributing anything in return. She knew that one particular cousin, a girl named Lilia was going to make a move against her soon. In desperation, she stole a wand from one of her instructors that was capable of summoning powerful monsters. She had seen the teacher use it several times, and knew the command word. She knew that the wand was beyond her skill to use, but she had no other options. All her friends had abandoned her as she fell from favor. Alyona was walking down one of the less traveled hallways in an outbuilding of the royal palace on her way back to her chambers after taking the wand. This is the perfect place for an ambush, she thought. She clutched the ebony crystal cylinder of the wand tightly to her chest, shivering in the cold. Suddenly several orbs of pale blue witch light sprang up out of the darkness ahead of her in the hallway. They illuminated a cloaked form. The figure reached up and threw back the hood of her cloak to reveal the cruel features of Lilia. She was nearly as beautiful as Alyona, but hers was a dark glamor that set itself starkly apart from Alyona’s sunny allure. Alyona’s steps faltered, and she inhaled sharply. Oh no! I’m no match for Lilia on my own. I can’t even cast any spells! Lilia was a few years older than Alyona, and a skilled witch. She pulled a scroll from inside her cloak and began rapidly chanting its contents in an arcane tongue. Alyona froze in terror as a rotating blue runic circle started to flicker into being over the ground in front of Lilia. Alyona pointed the wand out and said, ”invocare,” the command word of the wand --nothing happened. Lilia continued chanting and the summoning circle in front of her grew more solid by the moment. Alyona began to say the command word over and over again, gesturing with the wand towards Lilia frantically. The wand remained dormant in her hand, a simple crystal rod. Lilia concluded her chant and the circle on the ground ahead of her flashed brightly once before disappearing. The tiles of the floor crumbled away inward to reveal a howling black pit in the floor. A bloody skeletal hand appeared over the edge of the pit, grasping, hauling an arm and then head and shoulders behind it. Alyona screamed, watching the red burning eyes of the skeleton as it clambered the rest of the way out of the pit. The pit imploded into nothingness, leaving the floor as it had been before. Lilia laughed as the skeleton began to walk forward. It raised its bony claws ahead of it, they dripped blood all over the tiled floor as it broke into a run. ”INVOKARE!” Alyona shouted desperately, closing her eyes and pointing the wand in front of her with both hands. She imagined the most terrifying thing she’d encountered so far in her young life, the massive black worgs that stalked the city preying on the most unwary of its human citizens. She poured all her fear, all her need into the command word, and she felt something give way. A massive black wolf leap out of the end of the wand, and growling sprang forward onto the skeleton. The wolf ripped a leg off the skeleton and knocked it to the floor. Lilia looked shocked, and she froze in fear. Alyona herself was so surprised that she too froze. In mere moments the skeleton was torn to shreds. The shattered bloody bones disappeared, and the wolf ran forward after Lilia, who had begun her own rapid retreat. The great canine leapt onto her, biting deep into her leg and hamstringing her. ”Wait!” Alyona cried, just as the wolf was going to tear out Lilia’s throat. Alyona walked calmly forward, drawing the small dagger she kept at her belt. She looked down at Lilia, whimpering and bleeding on the floor. There was terror in her cousin’s dark eyes. A surge of empathy welled up in Alyona’s chest, but she forced it brutally back down. She allowed it to be replaced with a sense of pleasure and power at holding another’s life in her hands. At being the source of the fear for once. ”You shouldn’t have f%*!ed with me b@~~*.” she said cutely, with a smile. Leaning down she pushed up Lilia’s dress and calmly sliced her femoral artery wide open. ”Bite her once more, just there,” she commanded pointing to the slice which was now gushing blood rapidly all over the tiles. The black wolf stepped forward and did as it was told, savaging the wound. ”That will be all. You’re dismissed.” As the black wolf disappeared into nothingness, Alyona heard footsteps on the tiles behind her. Flush with her victory, she whirled, dagger up. There was a strange looking Tian-Min woman stepping from behind a column ten meters behind her down the hallway. She stepped forward slowly, her hands raised palm up. ”Princess Alyona, yes? I saw what happened. That was very impressive. How would you like to come with me? To go far away from this place, and never have to come back?”
