Valtyra's mother had been thought to be barren until very late in life. It wasn't until she was pregnant with Valtyra that she finally overcame the superstitions and whispers. It was a difficult birth - there was an unusually large amount of blood, and the local priestesses of Sarenrae had to use many spells to keep the mother alive. When it was over, all were well. Her parents named her Valtyra, an ancestral name in both their families.
There were several times while she was growing up that Valtyra felt ...different. She was teased mercilessly by other children because they knew that if they pushed her far enough, she would speak gibberish at them. It wasn't until she seemed to stop aging, however, that the local priesthood took notice.
She was escorted to the church of Sarenrae in Merab, where she heard whispers of Aasimar blood. She was kept there for many long years and taught extensively of history, religion, diplomacy, spells and spellcraft, as well as some self-defense. While she was there, her parents grew older, and eventually passed away. When she learned of their passing, she left the church and struck out on her own.
She is looking for her place in the world, trying to understand where she fits in it. She wants to understand her healing power and her "gift" of tongues, and to find somewhere she belongs.
