Seraphyna Bartone was a broken soul born of a broken home. She never knew her father, a promiscuous elf who left bastard children across Korvosa. Her mother tried her best, but quickly became addicted to shiver, and eventually sold Seraphyna off for a few more nights of that blissful drug. At the age of 9, she was one of the youngest whore’s in Lamm’s stables, a treat for those who liked that sort of thing. Like her mother, Seraphyna became addicted to shiver and the escape from life it offered. Years past, and with it, Seraphyna’s soul was slowly ground down as her body decayed from within. Just past what she thinks was her 15th birthday, she took more of the drug than she ever had, stumbling out of her hovel into the streets, praying for Pharasma to take her and end this pitiful life. Only Pharasma didn’t answer, Abadar did.
She awoke in a soft bed, looking up to a smiling dark skinned face. An Acolyte of Abadar had found her on the street and brought her to the archbanker himself, Darb Tuttle for help. After a month of recovery, she was released back to her life, but in her mind, Seraphyna Bartone was dead. She instead joined the church of Abadar, pledging herself to the god that granted her a different kind of freedom from her past. She excelled in her training and lessons. She has no other mission, no other purpose than to serve Abadar’s will. She has seen what happens when people give into temptation and lust, and she would not fall again. A decade after finding her place, her city has fallen into chaos. Abadar protects Korvosa, and so shall she, no longer Seraphyna Bartone, but as Sera the Red, Chosen of Abadar.
