About Sam Korematsu

The daughter of Japanese immigrants to America, up until she was 15 Sam lived in California with her family. It was in late 1931 that she convinced a young man making crude comments about her ethnicity that it was in his best interest that he attempt to swim in ice-cold waters. He nearly died of hypothermia, and a few days later agents from the Black Chamber came and presented her with a choice, to have her powers and memories suppressed, or to come work for them. There wasn't much of a choice.

She was placed under the supervision of Blake Davenport, 43, an agent for the Division of Investigation (which would later become the FBI) who possessed an innate resistance to her psychic abilities and was only told that she was an important asset for the U.S. Government. After Sam graduated high school and began working for the Black Chamber, Davenport was also brought into the Black Chamber and acted as Sam's handler. He was terrified of Sam's powers when he first learned of them, but he trusts Sam, and she trusts him in return; it's a multigenerational friendship.

Working for the Black Chamber, Sam made a modest salary of $3300/year (about $60,000/year in 2017), of which she sent half back to her family in California. They were under the impression she had a prestigious job working for the U.S. Government, which wasn't entirely inaccurate; she kept in touch with them regularly, up until the Pearl Harbor attacks in December 1941. Up until then she had worked entirely in domestic counter-espionage, and balked at the idea of being sent to Europe to join a multinational team of specialists; she relented when it was hinted that if she did not go, there could be retaliation against her family.

Summary:

25 years old, middle-length black hair and dark eyes that seem to draw you in. Sam is a woman who values her personal freedom; she hates that she was pulled into the Black Chamber, but at the same time she is able to support her family and still has freedom of thought. She looks out for her and her own, and will go out of her way to help the innocent, but will not hesitate to fight and kill if need be. She has a forceful personality and is one of the strongest psychics of this era. When pushed into a fight, she sticks to mid-range, controlling the battlefield first and foremost, but when it's needed she's a crack shot.

Sam is sarcastic, has a temper, is loyal to her immediate allies, and hates Nazis.
