Special Abilities
--------------------
Arcane School - A spirit binder can’t choose necromancy as an opposition school. This ability alters arcane school.

Empathic Link with Familiar (Su) - The master has an empathic link with his familiar to a 1 mile distance. The master can communicate empathically with the familiar, but cannot see through its eyes. Because of the link's limited nature, only general emotions can be shared. The master has the same connection to an item or place that his familiar does.

Familiar Bonus (Diplomacy) - You gain a +3 bonus to Diplomacy checks when you are within 1 mile of your familiar.

Lost Talents (Ex) - A spirit binder’s soulbound familiar possesses some of the ability of the lost loved one, and it is capable of learning more. At 1st level, 5th level, and every 5 levels thereafter, the spirit binder’s familiar gains a new feat for which it meets the prerequisites. This ability replaces Scribe Scroll and the wizard’s bonus feats.

Physical Enhancement +1 (Transmutation School; Constitution) (Su) - You gain a +1 enhancement bonus to one physical ability score (Strength, Dexterity, or Constitution). This bonus increases by +1 for every five wizard levels you possess to a maximum of +5 at 20th level. You can change this bonus to a new ability score when you prepare spells. At 20th level, this bonus applies to two physical ability scores of your choice.

Share Spells with Familiar - The wizard may cast a spell with a target of “You” on his familiar (as a touch spell) instead of on himself. A wizard may cast spells on his familiar even if the spells do not normally affect creatures of the familiar's type (magical beast).

Soulbound Familiar (Ex) - A spirit binder must select a familiar for his arcane bond. Unlike in a normal familiar-summoning ritual, a spirit binder created his special familiar through a dangerous ritual catalyzed by the death of a loved one. Before the loved one’s spirit passed on to the Boneyard, the spirit binder was able to bind the spirit to an animal or vermin, which then became his familiar.

A soulbound familiar’s personality is that of the lost loved one, rather than a servant of the spirit binder. It can have any alignment, even one that is diametrically opposed to the spirit binder’s. A soulbound familiar has the base attack bonus and base saving throws of the loved one’s favored class (using the spirit binder’s level as its level). If the loved one died before the beginning of the campaign, the spirit binder selects the familiar’s favored class at 1st level and it cannot be changed. This ability alters arcane bond.

Telekinetic Fist (Transmutation School; 1d4 bludgeoning, 6/day) (Sp) - As a standard action you can strike with a telekinetic fist, targeting any foe within 30 feet as a ranged touch attack. The telekinetic fist deals 1d4 points of bludgeoning damage + 1 for every two wizard levels you possess. You can use this ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + your Intelligence modifier.

Background:

Navia had lived all of her life in the city of Korvosa. It had never been an easy life; Navia's father had passed due to illness when she was an infant, leaving her mother and herself to struggle on as best as they could. Luckily for them both her mother, Adora, was a singer of some talent and though she never achieved enough fame to attract the interest of the city's nobility she made fair coin singing in Korvosa's local taverns. Navia's earliest memories are of amusing herself with a book in a quiet corner while her mother quite literally sang for their supper.

Life continued on this way for several years. As Navia grew a bit older she began to show an interest in studying magic. To make this happen, Adora began to work even harder in order to make sure that Navia could attend Korvosa's Acadamae - and attend, she did. For ten long years Navia lived on the Acadamae grounds and grew strong in her studies. With the Acadamae being self-sufficient, there was no need for Navia to leave the school grounds and outside visitors were not welcome. But Adora often sent letters to her daughter, at least once a week and sometimes even more than that, so the two were able to maintain regular correspondence. All was well until one week Adora's usual letter did not arrive and after a day or two of tense, worried silence on Navia's part she was surprised to receive a visitor! But it wasn't her mother. Instead it was the local Korvosan Guard, there to deliver the sad news that her mother had been found murdered in a lonely alley and to request that she come and formally identify the body.

Navia swiftly left the Acadamae to settle her mother's affairs but promised that she would be back within a few days to finish her studies. And true to her word, she returned less than a week later after having sold what she could of her mother's possessions and burying her. She also returned with a small thrush riding on her shoulder, who she simply stated was her familiar. Her fellow students and teachers had no reason to question this and assumed that it was Navia's way of coping with the grief of her loss. But what they didn't know was that Navia had managed to bind her mother's soul to the body of the thrush, making the small creature something more than a simple familiar.

After her mother's murder, Navia continued on with her studies but she also adopted another project that consumed what time her studies did not - tracking down her mother's killer and making sure he paid for his crime. It took some time and a few greased palms, but she was eventually able to get a name: Gaedren Lamm. All that was left to do now would be to find him...

Personality:

Though not unkind, Navia is a driven young woman who is tenacious in pursuing her goals. At first, that was simply to become a great mage and to make sure that her mother lived out the rest of her days in comfort and luxury. Now, her goal is to bring Gaedren Lamm to justice - one way or another.

However, Navia sometimes harbors conflicting feelings about her actions. A small part of her knows that very few people would approve of binding a soul to another living creature and thus she keeps the true nature of her familiar a secret from everyone.

Appearance:

Navia is a young human woman in her early 20s. She stands at an average height with a slight build but fairly hardy constitution, dressed in simple mage's robes. A backpack is slung over her back and she carries a quarterstaff in her hand and a dagger lies concealed in a hidden wrist sheath on her left arm. Her long brown hair falls loosely about her shoulders and her green eyes glint with determination.
