Male Halfling (Emerald Shire) Swashbuckler/1 (HP: 8/12; AC21; FF16; T16; F+3, R+7, W+3; Perc: +8, Init +4)

Heh, cool, don't think I have ever been the inspiration for anything. I have been having more and more fun coming up with unusual character ideas, and then trying to fit the character into the PF ruleset. (Such as the aforementioned Kintal.) As opposed to what many players do where they have a strange character and make a ton of requests to the DM for one offs.

Let me know what the book is, I will have to check it out.

It was fun playing for the short time and you definitely were skilled at creating a scene that I could feel I was part of. Should you wish to create a new campaign, please do not hesitate to give me a shout. You might not get another chef, but you should get something interesting.

The Exchange

Male Halfling (Emerald Shire) Swashbuckler/1 (HP: 8/12; AC21; FF16; T16; F+3, R+7, W+3; Perc: +8, Init +4)

No problem. If you need a chef for your other campaign, let me know. Otherwise, good luck with RL. While it does suck to have this campaign die, it is much better for you to bow out this way, than to just have the party languish, which I have seen several times before.

The Exchange

Had to look at this. Although I am unsure whether I will apply, I just wanted to post with this character. He is a chef that everyone seems to thing is a swashbuckler. It really annoys him when he has to stab something because of how long it takes him to clean off his favorite rapier afterwards.

The Exchange

Male Halfling (Emerald Shire) Swashbuckler/1 (HP: 8/12; AC21; FF16; T16; F+3, R+7, W+3; Perc: +8, Init +4)

Kintal calls back to the others:
Strange darkness ends just on the other side of the darkness. Let me hole the rope and have one of the more agile of you big people make your way across. The passage continues, and it seems that there is a tear in the giant's flesh up here.

The Exchange

Male Halfling (Emerald Shire) Swashbuckler/1 (HP: 8/12; AC21; FF16; T16; F+3, R+7, W+3; Perc: +8, Init +4)

Kintal looks back up at the mage: If you are not going to make work look good, why do it. Things need to function, but also be pleasant to use and look at.

He then turns to Telthes:
I am by far the lightest, tie the rope off and I will go first.

Acrobatics: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24 <-- in case needed to cross

Like an acrobatic, Kintal dances across the pit and then bows to the others when across.

See, piece of cake. I prefer chocolate with coconut shavings and some fresh whipped cream personally.

The Exchange

Male Halfling (Emerald Shire) Swashbuckler/1 (HP: 8/12; AC21; FF16; T16; F+3, R+7, W+3; Perc: +8, Init +4)

Not sure you can do craft untrained.

Survival: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19

I'm a chef dammit, not a bridge builder.

The Exchange

Male Halfling (Emerald Shire) Swashbuckler/1 (HP: 8/12; AC21; FF16; T16; F+3, R+7, W+3; Perc: +8, Init +4)

Kintal looks at the pit, then across the pit, then back down the pit.

We could tie a rope to someone and try jumping across. Jumping across that distance should not be too difficult.

Once one of us is across, we can use the rope to make our way across one by one. The last person can then swing across while the rest of us hole the rope on the other side.

The Exchange

Male Halfling (Emerald Shire) Swashbuckler/1 (HP: 8/12; AC21; FF16; T16; F+3, R+7, W+3; Perc: +8, Init +4)

Kintal points to the holes in the wall and looks a little pale, perhaps almost nauseous:.
They are eating the giant.

The Exchange

Male Halfling (Emerald Shire) Swashbuckler/1 (HP: 8/12; AC21; FF16; T16; F+3, R+7, W+3; Perc: +8, Init +4)

Kintal shakes his head and also holds his nose.
Even some of the worst cooks I have ever known would have trouble concocting something that vile.

Take everything we can carry. We can always drop loot if we find something more valuable.

Kintal follows behind Milo, rapier out, to make sure that nothing jumps out at the mage.

The Exchange

Male Halfling (Emerald Shire) Swashbuckler/1 (HP: 8/12; AC21; FF16; T16; F+3, R+7, W+3; Perc: +8, Init +4)

I'm here. Not sure who is planning on acting. Kintal does not have any lock picking skills, unless it involves a kitchen pantry.

The Exchange

Male Halfling (Emerald Shire) Swashbuckler/1 (HP: 8/12; AC21; FF16; T16; F+3, R+7, W+3; Perc: +8, Init +4)

Kintal shakes his head at Milo's inquiry.
I have never needed to pick a lock, as I usually perform on the streets, my show is open and does not need subterfuge.

He looks about to see if anyone else might have any skill opening locks such as this.

The Exchange

Male Halfling (Emerald Shire) Swashbuckler/1 (HP: 8/12; AC21; FF16; T16; F+3, R+7, W+3; Perc: +8, Init +4)

Kintal moves back to the others:
It is dark in there. Insanely dark, as though all light were being swallowed by something. I cannot see what is in or beyond the darkness. Would any of you have the ability to create light or somehow see through such darkness?

The Exchange

Male Halfling (Emerald Shire) Swashbuckler/1 (HP: 8/12; AC21; FF16; T16; F+3, R+7, W+3; Perc: +8, Init +4)

Kintal not-so-stealthily returns to the group.

The passage continues on, turning several times. It sounds like some type of singing or chanting ahead. I will investigate, but you all should move up, staying perhaps 50' or so behind me.

With that, Kintal will again head up the tunnel to see what is around the next corner.

Not sure if you want me to keep making stealth/perception checks. It always seems a little cheesy as eventually you are guaranteed to succeed and fail.

The Exchange

Male Halfling (Emerald Shire) Swashbuckler/1 (HP: 8/12; AC21; FF16; T16; F+3, R+7, W+3; Perc: +8, Init +4)

Kintal looks up at Milo and nods before turning to head up the passage:
I'm a chef damit, not a sneak.

Nonetheless, he proceeds to stealthily examine the passage.

Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24
Stealth: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12

In paying attention, he does not notice the strange floor as his tiny feet squeak along.

The Exchange

Male Halfling (Emerald Shire) Swashbuckler/1 (HP: 8/12; AC21; FF16; T16; F+3, R+7, W+3; Perc: +8, Init +4)

Kintal helps the others staunch the giant's wounds. He then grips his small rapier and waits behind Telthes as the next doorway is examined.

The Exchange

Male Halfling (Emerald Shire) Swashbuckler/1 (HP: 8/12; AC21; FF16; T16; F+3, R+7, W+3; Perc: +8, Init +4)

Kintal shrugs:
I don't know. The giant is a living creature, albeit a rather large one. This is but a small injury for him. Undoubtedly something that it has not even noticed. However, if we do not stop it, as I said before, unless you are skilled at swimming in blood, this return route may well be blocked.

We could also cauterize the wound as was done in much of the tunnel, but I do not know how, or if, this would work.

The Exchange

Male Halfling (Emerald Shire) Swashbuckler/1 (HP: 8/12; AC21; FF16; T16; F+3, R+7, W+3; Perc: +8, Init +4)

Kintal looks with concern at the bleeding wall.
Would one of you capable of healing magic be able to staunch the flow of blood? If we do not, we may end up trapped and unable to return this way.

The Exchange

Male Halfling (Emerald Shire) Swashbuckler/1 (HP: 8/12; AC21; FF16; T16; F+3, R+7, W+3; Perc: +8, Init +4)

Breaks, especially when the person checks in and informs the rest of the players what is going on is fine. Long disappearances not so much. So far, your breaks have been less than many players, and DMs, non-breaks, so no problem here.

Plus, it gives Kintal time to cook a meal for everyone.

The Exchange

Male Halfling (Emerald Shire) Swashbuckler/1 (HP: 8/12; AC21; FF16; T16; F+3, R+7, W+3; Perc: +8, Init +4)

Kintal picks up the items.
Looks like someone else didn't escape from the jello fast enough. Looks like he will not need this stuff anymore. Anyone have a clue what these are?

Kintal holds out the pins and other items which were found.

The Exchange

Male Halfling (Emerald Shire) Swashbuckler/1 (HP: 8/12; AC21; FF16; T16; F+3, R+7, W+3; Perc: +8, Init +4)

Kintal looks at the wounds:
I don't know how these giants heal, but someone might want to try some healing to at least staunch the bleeding.

His sharp halfling eyes then begin to carefully examine what was previously contained within the cube.

Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15

The Exchange

Male Halfling (Emerald Shire) Swashbuckler/1 (HP: 8/12; AC21; FF16; T16; F+3, R+7, W+3; Perc: +8, Init +4)

Milo needs to climb up with his move action, then all the rest of us can make a 5' step after we next fire.

The Exchange

Male Halfling (Emerald Shire) Swashbuckler/1 (HP: 8/12; AC21; FF16; T16; F+3, R+7, W+3; Perc: +8, Init +4)

Taking another step back, the halfling chef once more fires a small arrow at the unappetizing cube of jello.

I can understand why chefs stay on the surface. I do not think that there is anything I could do to make something like this taste good.

5' step back
Move: reload crossbow
Attack-crossbow: 1d20 + 6 - 4 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 6 - 4 + 1 = 16 <-- -4 for cover, +1 inspire courage
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6 <-- +1 inspire courage

This shot appears to take out a nice chunk of the creature.

The Exchange

Male Halfling (Emerald Shire) Swashbuckler/1 (HP: 8/12; AC21; FF16; T16; F+3, R+7, W+3; Perc: +8, Init +4)

Kintal shrugs:
Didn't know if it would work. But we would never know unless we tried. Now lets turn that thing into a puddle.

Attack-crossbow: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 6 + 1 = 22
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

Once more a well aimed shot seems to have little effect.

I am off to TotalCon this weekend. Might be able to post, but it is likely to be light until Sunday night.

The Exchange

Male Halfling (Emerald Shire) Swashbuckler/1 (HP: 8/12; AC21; FF16; T16; F+3, R+7, W+3; Perc: +8, Init +4)

Kintal already shot since he was in the front row once Milo moved back. Waiting on DMs response to see whether the arrow appeared to have done anything.

The Exchange

Male Halfling (Emerald Shire) Swashbuckler/1 (HP: 8/12; AC21; FF16; T16; F+3, R+7, W+3; Perc: +8, Init +4)

Both systems work fine. Always post in the alternative:

I attack X with my sword,

But, if X is dead or moved away, I draw my bow and fire,

If there is nobody in view, I move in front of the squishy wizard in case something tries to attack, and go on total defense.

-------
You can easily post 3-4 alternatives if your initial action has that big a chance of not coming to fruition.

In this case, everyone can easily draw a ranged weapon and fire at the cube, and then 5' step back. The order really does not matter.

The Exchange

Male Halfling (Emerald Shire) Swashbuckler/1 (HP: 8/12; AC21; FF16; T16; F+3, R+7, W+3; Perc: +8, Init +4)

Kintal will draw, load and fire his light crossbow at the cube. He will then step back hoping that the others follow suit.

Attack-crossbow: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 2

Then 5-foot step back. Hopefully everyone behind him will do the same thing.

Guys, lets keep stepping back and see if we can kill it with arrows.

The Exchange

Male Halfling (Emerald Shire) Swashbuckler/1 (HP: 8/12; AC21; FF16; T16; F+3, R+7, W+3; Perc: +8, Init +4)

Kintal looks at the not-so-brave wizard as he dodges past.
And who do you think is going to do the leading? Can't we just chop it up? Or shoot it?

Hoping for a response before jumping in.

Kintal holds his once more shiny rapier in one hand, standing to the side of the "door" prepared in case anything decides to come through.

Action: Draw rapier and be prepared for whatever is on the other side if the opening opens.

Unless people want to continue this discussion, Kintal will take a torch and carefully make his way down into the newly revealed passage.

Of course I will help. After all, evil does not pay as well as good, and dead people make for terrible audiences.

Why are you looking at me? I am a chef, not a dungeon crawler.

Kintal simple stands there, rapier in one hand, drooped toward the ground. A look of complete disbelief on his face.

What the heck was that thing? What happened? Is the kobold ok?

Once his mind begins to refocus on reality, he takes out a clean white cloth and begins to carefully wipe his rapier clean.
I will never get that disgusting thing off here. Will probably have to buy a new rapier for my performance.

The Exchange

Male Halfling (Emerald Shire) Swashbuckler/1 (HP: 8/12; AC21; FF16; T16; F+3, R+7, W+3; Perc: +8, Init +4)

Someone heal the shop keeper. What in the name of Onyx in this thing?

Round 2
Kintal continues to poke at the creature with his diminutive rapier.

Attack-rapier: 1d20 + 7 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 7 + 2 + 1 = 21 <-- +1 Inspire Courage, +2 flanking
Damage: 1d4 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 + 1 = 5

Once more drawing blood, the chef groans:
You know how long it is going to take to clean this rapier?

Kintal will use Opportune Parry and Riposte if attacked.

The Exchange

Male Halfling (Emerald Shire) Swashbuckler/1 (HP: 8/12; AC21; FF16; T16; F+3, R+7, W+3; Perc: +8, Init +4)

Moving this over from the IC thread.

On my character sheet I have the base for each weapon (BAB, Str/Dex, Weapon Focus, Enhancement, etc). Then, when attacking I list any other modifiers (Inspire Courage, Bless, Haste, etc).

For instance: Attack-rapier: 1d20 + 7 + 1 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 7 + 1 + 1 + 1 = 21 <-- +1 Inspire Courage, +1 Bless, +1 Haste
Other common modifiers might be Point Blank Shot, Favored Enemy, Racial Hatred, and the like.

I don't do it, but I have also seen people who put the majority of the common rolls (attacks, perception, stealth, knowledge, etc) into their character sheet. Not sure whether it reads the / in the second [/dice}, but it would assuredly speed things up if people need to post in a hurry, or frequently have multiple modifiers and like to cut and paste things.

--------
If anyone wants, I can email my character sheet, or feel free to use it. It is probably not perfect, but after nearly 4 years on the board, I think it works well for finding information and letting others (the DM) identify things.

Just a short chef's 2 cp.

Telthes - what is your +6 from? It appears to be +3 Str, +1 BAB, +2 flanking. You should also have +1 from the song, and the creature should be at -4 to AC from being prone. Not sure whether its enough to hit, but that should hit a 15 AC.

I find it easiest to just post my bonuses each time. That way if I make a mistake, someone else might catch it. Also, it keeps the DM from having to ask where you got +6 or +12 or +30 from.

The Exchange

Male Halfling (Emerald Shire) Swashbuckler/1 (HP: 8/12; AC21; FF16; T16; F+3, R+7, W+3; Perc: +8, Init +4)

Ah, then it is 6 damage, and the Confirm is a 14 - maybe enough to hit. If the confirm hits, then it is an additional +3 damage.

The Exchange

Male Halfling (Emerald Shire) Swashbuckler/1 (HP: 8/12; AC21; FF16; T16; F+3, R+7, W+3; Perc: +8, Init +4)

Suddenly horrified to find the strange and vile creature next to him, Kintal pokes at it with his rapier.
What is this thing?

Attack-rapier: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

Confirm crit: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

The blade easily slips between a crack in the creatures defenses, but fails to hit anything critical (or perhaps the strange alien creature has its vital spots in unusual locations).

Realizing that the tight confines are not optimal, Kintal calls to Leiko.

Retreat, make it come to us, or let one of the better armored move up.

With that, he withdraws down the steps.

Kintal cocks an eye at Leiko as she nods to him and then begins to ascend the clearly private stairs. Unsure what she wants, but realizing that the kobold appears more than a little nervous, and not because of the group, the tiny chef draws his rapier and then follows the tall human up the stairs.

Stealth: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26

Despite not having trained in the sneakier arts, the small man is still able to move almost as silently as a mouse.

Kintal follows Milo up the steps, his short legs struggling to keep up with the much taller human. When he sees the children charging toward him, he reaches into his pocket and pulls out several pastries he cooked at the temple before he left. They are something that kids in the Emerald Shire always love, flakey pastries filled with a combination of raisins, fresh fruit paste and a chocolate glaze.

He hands these to the children and smiles enjoying the look of glee as the orphans get something that they likely rarely have the chance to experience at the orphanage.

The, he follows Milo into the room.
So, you learn anything interesting? We got to kill a couple of dwarven maskers. They were stupid even for dwarves. We were going to question one, but he poisoned himself first. These guys are seriously screwed up and stupid.

Hmmm, I always buy rope, but appear to have forgotten to put it on my character sheet. I do have a spell component pouch though, which is really useful for a non-spellcaster.

If I can retcon that and purchase rope instead of the pouch, that would be appreciated. Otherwise, Kintal will purchase this stuff in the morning.

Kintal glares at the man.
While I revere the Emerald Totem, if it were my choice, no quarter would be given. Now, it is time to start talking or the authorities may not be able to help you.

Who sent you here? Where is the base where you received these stupid masks? And why were you seeking to murder the healers of this holy temple?

Intimidate(aid another): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
