Racial Traits:

Low-light vision: Elves can see twice as far as humans in conditions of dim light.

Lightbringer: immune to light based blindness and dazzle effects, is treated as 1 level higher when determining the effects of any light-based spell or effect that they cast ( including spell-like and supernatural abilities ). May cast " light " at will as a spell like ability.

Keen senses: Elves receive a +2 racial bonus on perception checks.

Character Traits:

Faith Trait: Indomitable Faith - +1 trait bonus to Will saves.

Combat Trait: Reactionary - +2 trait bonus on initiative checks.

Class Features:

Weapon and armor proficiency: A fighter is proficient with all simple and martial weapons and with all armor (heavy, light and medium) and shields (including tower shields).

Fighter Bravery: +1 on saves versus fear.

Armor Training: Whenever he is wearing armor, he reduces the armor check penalty by 1 ( to a minimum of 0 ) and increases the maximum Dexterity bonus allowed by his armor by 1.

Backstory:

Haloniel had been born and raised in Korvosa. His mother is a wizard and his father is a cleric of Desna. His parents operated a small magic shop which also had a shrine to Desna where his father would conduct services for the few faithful who showed up.

Regardless of the fact that Haloniel demonstrated that he had a gift that indicated he had received minor divine favor (the Lightbringer alternate racial trait), Haloniel decided that he really wanted to be a fighter. The profession of arms appealed to him. This was because Haloniel was actually something of an adrenaline junky. He enjoyed the rush that came with putting himself in danger so he could test and improve his skills.

While Haloniel had been growing up he had befriended several generations of hobbit children. Thus it was that he learned the use of the halfling sling staff. For a lot of what Haloniel felt a fighter needed a ranged weapon for he preferred it to a bow. This caused some people to think he was somewhat strange. Granted that the halfling sling staff was nowhere near as good for skirmishing as a bow was, but then fighters equipped in relatively heavy armor weren't skirmishers. The sling staff was inexpensive, could be used as a melee weapon, and automatically did more damage when Haloniel was buffed with magic that increased his strength. Haloniel also preferred using a bastard sword instead of the more traditional elven longsword.

Eventually devil worshiping scum came to power in Korvosa. They frowned on the worship of Desna, and made things uncomfortable for Haloniel and his family, but they persevered in their faith.

As a result of seeing a lot of his childhood friends grow up, grow old and then die of old age Haloniel became somewhat withdrawn. He isn't in the friend making business any more. He might be inclined to make an exception for another elf or member of a long lived race. But members of the shorter lived races will never be more than acquaintances unless something truly extraordinary happens.

After Haloniel had finished his training he went to work as a caravan guard. He came to like traveling around a lot and seeing new places. Thus it was that Haloniel was always signing on with different caravan masters and checking out new routes when the opportunity arose.

Physical Description:

Haloniel stands 6 feet 3 inches tall and weighs in at 133 pounds. He is 135 years old. He has fair skin, brown hair and green eyes. He wears his breastplate armor over an Explorer's Outfit composed of items that are varying shades of brown in color. The main exception is his cloak which is grey.

Haloniel wears his bastard sword slung over his right shoulder with the hilt sticking up at an angle about even with his head. He wears the halfling sling staff and a pouch of 10 sling bullets on his weapon belt on his right hand side. He wears his gladius in the center front of his weapon belt rigged more or less horizontally and set up for a right hand draw. He wears his Morningstar on his left side set up for a cross draw. He carries a specialized holder with 6 chakrams it slung off his left shoulder. Completing the collection of weaponry he has a dagger concealed in each boot. He will usually have his buckler strapped to his left arm ready for instant use.

Tactics Notes:

When Haloniel is expecting trouble but there is no enemy in sight he will have his halfling sling staff loaded and ready to use. The first thing he would do if attacked is to take a shot at an attacker with the sling staff. After that things would depend on the situation. If he had too many attackers in too close to him he would use the sling staff as a melee weapon until he got some space around him. Once he got a chance to do so he would stick the sling staff back in his belt and draw the bastard sword. If he were facing foes that needed to be bludgeoned or pierced he would draw the morningstar. He would normally use the bastard sword and the morningstar one handed to get the buckler's bonus to his AC. However, if he were having problems trying to overcome an enemy's damage resistance he would switch to a two handed grip on whichever of those weapons he was using.

Haloniel usually keeps his chakrams in reserve. He wouldn't normally use them until either near the end of a combat when the enemy was trying to break away or if the situation was such that he was able to skirmish a little. However, the main use that Haloniel has for the chakrams is that he will occasionally use his lightbringer ability to cast a light spell on a chakram. Then he will throw the chakram where he needs to in order to light up an area he wants to see better. If there is a suitable object in that area Haloniel will try to get the lighted chakram to stick in it so that the dart will be about 5 to 6 feet above the ground and can be retrieved later.

When Haloniel wants to see the area close around him better he will cast his light spell on his helm or his buckler. If he wants to make the light go out he will draw his gladius, cast his light spell on the gladius (which makes his previous casting go out) and then sheath the gladius.
