About Eloith d'Phiarlan

Eloith is a tall and lithe, even for an elf. His sharp-featured face bears the once-traditional tattoos of his people, now uncommon in the Five Kingdoms.

Nominally a performer, Eloith usually wears wispy robes and fine leather boots. His thin sword, made of an inky metal, is usually hidden in his robes.

When loaded for adventure, Eloith carries his blade proudly on his hip and wears a bandolier of alchemical flasks across his chest. But, even when prepared for combat, Eloith avoids armor.

At all times, he carries himself confidently, with his shoulders back and eyes forward. His movements are quick and precise and his clear blue eyes take everything in.

Interview:

Eloith has been in the bar for some time. Being in New Cyre has brought up old memories, mostly fond ones, but a few are deeply sad. Good times were had during his several decades of well-spent youth, and a good deal of shallow sorrow buried in deep pint glasses. But, the Mourning touched many of his closest friends and the bright colored clothes and gaudy jewelry these transplants still wear bring back strong feelings of loss.

He takes a seat across from the middle-aged human, “Jeri-Anne would be his age,” Eloith ponders.

What are you best at? Your strongest talent?

Eloith slides his shirtsleeves down, exposing a dragonmark on his left forearm and a hydra tattoo on his right forearm. “I keep secrets. I buy, borrow, or steal bits of knowledge. I make sure the those bits of knowledge make it to the right person at the right time. I am a model of discretion in a world that is – thankfully --growing every more discrete.”

What else can you offer to the group?

Eloith lays his blade on the table. It is made of inky black metal, and looks expensive, but it has a shacky blacksmith mark and a guard that isn't quite symmetrical. “I made this. My father said that 'you can never trust another elf's steel.' It's an old prover about making sure you keep your own conscience. But I took him more literally.” He places it back into its scabbard in a smooth movement.
“In my line of work one doesn't keep a body count. You work quickly and quietly. Between a little magic and a little swordplay I make quick work of most enemies.”

What areas are you weakest in?
“I am a s$&~e rower, a poor actor, my singing voice is grating, and I prefer the night time company of well-dressed women over camping on hard ground. If an enemy gets the jump on me, which is exceedingly rare, it takes me a count to set my feet and get back into things.”

What experiences do you have with the Mournland?
“I participated in an expedition to recover several items from the Demesne of Shape. I served as a forward scout for a larger party. Three weeks in, I discovered a small army of undead and put them to rest. But, my crew was attacked by a squad of rogue warforged – who had found our trail days before. I put many of them to the sword, but wasn't in any sort of shape to push on alone. I traveled by day, slept in abandoned homes by night, and made it out as fast as I could.”

Have you visited Cyre before the Mourning?
“Yes, my interest in the Demesne of Shape wasn't just business. I lived there for the better part of five decades. I know the land, I knew its people, and, candidly, I loved many of its women.”

Did you serve in the war? For whom, and what were your duties?
“I served my home and family. And, we didn't pick sides. We like to say that we served all mankind.”

Do you hold any oaths or duties to others that may conflict with this mission? If so, please explain.
“If I have an opportunity to get into the Demesne, I will take it. If I find family secrets, I will keep them away from others. And, if I find anything that implicates the duplicitous Thuranni in any manner of wrong-doing, I will spread it to any who will listen. Other than that, you can trust my discretion, judgment, and loyalty.”

Tell me a little about yourself. Your background, your training.
“As a very young elf, I was trained in swordplay by my father. He is an actor now, but earned more coin as a trainer for duelists before I was born. My mother made him give it up – students come after masters to test their mettle or metal – far too often for her liking. And, I think she feared he would be conscripted to train soldiers. Later in my youth, I studied at the Twelve, as befitted an elf of my pedigree, but “graduated” early when it became clear that my skills were more practical then theoretical. I was sent to the Demesne of Shape and taught beginning students for several decades. Since the end of the war, I have served loyally as a prop master in a opera put on by my House for centuries. I do all that work entails.”

Background:

Eloith enjoys his deep cover assignment - half bit-part actor, half prop-master for operatic performances. He is know as one of the better prop sword makers in the City of Towers. He served as a professor at the Demense of Shape for decades, teaching new students and looking for promising prospects for advancement within the House. On the Day of Mourning, he was "serving a sabattical" -- hunting down a Thuranni assassin who had murdered his sometimes-student and sometimes-lover -- Ellison.

Eloith's day job is never more than a cover. Eloith is an elite swordsman and "fixer" for some of the House's more shadowy activities. He travels frequently as part of a touring opera, but spends most night trading secrets and letting rivals meet their early demise at the end of his sword. For now, his night job is well-hidden from even the most dedicated investigator. Things got dicey a few years back, when he was found rapier deep in a family rival. But, he has managed to spread a disinformation campaign convincing the curious that he is a short-tempered duelist who will not suffer any slight to his honor.
