Backstory:

When he was young, Durran was hot-blooded, loud, and had a mean temper. He grew up rough, giving him tough skin and a grudge against the world. He left home young and quickly fell in with a bad crowd, a group of desperados and renegades that called themselves the Fairfield Raiders (after the town in which they all met). The gang was small-time, knocking over caravans and stealing horses for the thrill as much as the money. After riding with the raiders for a few years, Durran fell in love with an escort named Lucille. He scraped together some leftover cash and left the gang, marrying the girl and settling down on a small farm to live an honest life.

Years passed and the memories of the gang faded from Durrans mind. He and his wife had a daughter, and together they managed to turn out a modest living on their homestead. It had never occurred to him that while he had left his former life behind, it was not quite as done with him.

In his absence the Fairfield Raiders had grown into something much more dangerous, turning from simple petty crimes to more heinous acts the culmination of which was the transformation of the gangs leader into a powerful and evil Lich. The cult (no longer could they be considered a gang by any sense) then loomed over the area like a cloud of impending doom.

Soon fate put into place the final actor for the coming drama: for years ago Durran had clashed with the gangs leader over the hand of Lucile, and now the newly made Lich was intent on having his revenge. It was for that singular reason that Durran found his home burned to the ground, his wife and daughter slain. It was for that singular reason that he found himself once again strapping an iron to his hip. It was for that singular reason that a good man finds himself riding to war.

Additional Character Background
1) Durran is not the young man he once was, being well into his middle ages. In normal circumstances riding after a Lich would be suicide, but these are not normal circumstances. In his youth he was handsome, tall, and had blue eyes and rich black hair. Now his face is worn from sun and dirt, and his once black hair has become peppered with grey.
2) Durran is a man of meager resources, his revolver is nearly as old as he and his horse was purchased with what little gold he had. Though his burning rage drives him otherwise,
he has opted to stay his hunt in favor of collecting some capitol through odd jobs. After all, you can't wage a war with an empty purse.
3) When Durran left the Fairfield Raiders, he did so with a bounty of 250 gp on his head from his various crimes. Though technically the bounty still stands, its postings have long since been taken down.

Known Associates
1) Jaeger “Boneskaw” Fasco: The leader of the Fairfield Raiders since their inception, Boneskaw had flunked out of a magical academy as a result of poor behavior. His life of petty crime took a turn when he and his gang found a scroll detailing the rites of lichdom among their latest haul. Just before Durran left the two had a heated argument over the hand of the escort Lucile, who in the end scorned Boneskaw. Cruel and dangerously intelligent, Boneskaw has a mean streak a mile wide and a grudge against nearly everyone he's ever met.
2) Lucile McAnti: A former escort, she met Durran shortly after a successful heist. The two quickly fell in love and though Boneskaw also made an attempt to win her favor, she eventually decided to start life anew with Durran. Their daughter, Joan, was named after Luciles mother.
