iPad, definitely.

They're out of Indianapolis and they've jumped on a 10-date tour with Hammers of Misfortune out of San Francisco as the headliner. I'll be catching them in Columbus on July 20th.

Thanks for reminding me--Hammers of Misfortune -The Bastard--is a terrific metal album with some medieval flair. I highly recommend it. Has anyone mentioned Slough Feg on this thread yet?

So hard to choose just one!

Since they haven't been mentioned yet I'll throw in:
The Gates of Slumber - Hymns of Blood and Thunder

Conqueror by the same band is also good...Drat! That's two!

Love the Gates of Slumber. They're a local band for me. Heavy, traditional, doomy metal. Indy is not known for any kind of metal scene, which sucks.

One cannot simply restrict themselves to ONE METAL ALBUM! :)

I realize it's a problem--some days I wanna hear Behemoth, sometimes Waylander, sometimes Maiden. Too much good metal.

But I really wanted to hear what everyone's "cream of the crop" fantasy metal album was. The best of the best. Plus, it takes me about an hour to get to work every day, so it's just enough time to hear one really good L.P.

Actually, my character will be a 12th level fighter/1st level monk, and even then I only took the monk level because it fits my character's background story. I'm only using this character for one night, and then the group will be done with RotR, so it's really not that big of a deal.

I haven't completely decided on feats or classes, either. I'm using Hero Lab, so I've put together a lot of different builds. I could take the monk level or leave it. The only condition the GM gave us was to have a non-evil alignment.

Again, I just wondered if I was missing something, and I don't think I am. Thanks for all the help and ideas.

They probably just didn't realize that weapon enhancement d6's don't double on a crit.

Yeah, that's my guess, too. I'll just have them break it down for me in a couple weeks.

Liberty's Edge

No house rules. The GM allows anything in the Paizo books, but that's it.

I didn't ask him about bonuses to his weapon--I have a +5 holy greatsword, and it adds 2d6 damage to any evil-aligned creature, but that's it.

Anyway, I just want to know if there's anything I can do as a human wielding a greatsword to get that high damage consistently on a crit.

Liberty's Edge

Hey all,

I sat in with a group on Friday night that I'm going to join, and I was watching the fighter pretty closely. I'll be playing a fighter/monk for the last bit of Rise of the Runelords, and I wanted to make sure I'd be sufficiently different to stand out from his PC.

Anyway, the damage he was rolling was 6d6+22 or 24 with a greatsword, and he's a human, 13th level. The only puzzling thing to me was that he rolled a few crits over the course of the night, and when he did, he rolled 12d6 for damage. This is where I got confused. I have Vital Strike, Improved Vital Strike, and Devastating Strike for my character. This will allow me to roll 6d6 of damage for ONE attack, but the extra dice don't multiply on a crit. I didn't stop play or ask what was going on, and no one seemed to notice or care when he rolled so many dice. I also didn't want to call him out on it, since I didn't want to single him out or put him on the spot, but when I play in a couple weeks, I'll probably ask him and the GM what's up. I just want to make sure I know the rules so I can play the game correctly; I'm not looking to bust anyone's balls.

So, am I missing something? Is there a feat or trait that will allow a 12d6 roll on a crit with a human wielding a greatsword? No one cast enlarge person on him, and it was a medium weapon, so is this possible? Any help you can give me would be appreciated. Thanks.

Age of Winters is an awesome album, and a serious contender for my #1. I like Gods of the Earth a little more due to the thrashier guitar sound, I guess.

Some other great battle-metal (since that's what the thread's turning into) is Wulfgar - Midgardian Metal, and Destroy Destroy Destroy - Battle Sluts.

I still want to know what everyone's perfect D&D type album is, though. The best blend of fantasy and metal you've ever heard. After all, this thread could help some newcomers to metal discover what's out there. And it will help us current metal-heads keep up with what we've missed that we shouldn't be missing.

Three Floyds' Ragnarock, a beer made in Indiana with help from Amon Amarth. Hard to beat my own homebrews, though.

    Mine:

The Sword - Gods of the Earth

I love me all kinds of metal; black, death, thrash, traditional, melodic, groove. There's not a sub genre I don't like. However, when it comes to fantasy/Frank Frazetta envisioning thoughts, this album just does it for me. Great guitar riffs and fantasy lyrics about George R. R. Martin books and Norse mythology.

What's your favorite? There are plenty of greats to choose from--Dio, Blind Guardian, Cirith Ungol, 3 Inches of Blood, Amon Amarth, the list goes on and on, but what's the one that does it for you? I'm always on the lookout for new bands, especially those that remind me of a dungeon crawl or Hyboria.

Sniggevert's right. The PFS is pretty active. You might also join "Indy Gaming" on meetup.com. I'm getting ready to join a group (after I meet them) that's finishing up Runelords at the end of the month, and that's how the GM found me.

my first suggestion is to hit Saltire games on Saturday, there's generally 4-5 PFS scenarios going down there, that'd help out I think!

Yep, that's what I did. Definitely the best way to play when you want to make your own schedule, and the players so far have been great. I'm hoping to join an actual "group" at the end of the month, after I've met them. Thanks for the advice!

    Danny McBride
    Zack Snyder
    J.D. Cronise
Jonathan Frakes (cause Wil Wheaton's too obvious, and I wanna see Riker as a bard, seducing left and right)

Yes, that's perfect. Big fan of Peter Dinklage. He makes "Game of Thrones".

Again, thanks for all the advice. I've gone ahead and gotten the 4-day badge, and even bought some tickets for a couple games, one on Thursday night, and one on Sunday morning. I guess that way I can take my kids on Friday or Saturday, and still be there on Sunday to try and score some cheap stuff. I'm sure my plans will be broken down even further as I discover more and more to do. Thanks again, I'm looking forward to it!

    Liberty's Edge

Thanks for all the info, guys. I'd love to save some money and get the cheaper pass, but for $30 more it will be awfully convenient to be able to split my time up over 4 days. I don't know how much gaming I'll be doing, either, but I want to make sure I have the time to see everything in case I get sucked into some good games. Since this is my first Con, I'll just bite the bullet and hopefully learn everything I can for next year.

Hey everyone--I'm a new Pathfinder player--I've been working on the Beginner Box with my kids as a GM, and will be playing some PFS stuff here real soon. My question is, as an Indy resident, and first time GenCon attendee, how long of a pass should I plan on getting? I'm only about 35 minutes from downtown, and can park for free near the Convention Center due to my job. Is it worth getting the 4-day pass? I've never been before and don't know if I'll get my money's worth out of the 4-day. What should I expect? Thanks for any help.

    Liberty's Edge

Hey everyone, I'm a new player looking for a game somewhere around Indy. I live on the east side, but I'm willing to play where I can. I have old-school experience (AD&D 2nd edition), but I have everything I need, and have been reading all my books for a few months now.
I'm 34, so I'm looking for an adult group that's laid-back and willing to put up with a few growing pains. I just ordered the Beginner Box, and my ultimate goal is to learn enough that I can comfortably GM more complex modules for my kids at some point. But I would love to find a group at I can have a lot of fun with. I also have a buddy with NO experience who's interested, if there's room. Thanks for reading!
