The Devil's in the Details

Happy Monday! Welcome to another installment of our Pathfinder Battles: Maze of Death previews. Releasing next month, Maze of Death is full of wickedly cool figures for you to encounter in your Pathfinder campaign. Up first this week is the Pitborn Fighter, a common medium based off of artwork found in Pathfinder Player Companion: Blood of Fiends. I think he looks rad, especially for a common. The horns and spikes on his face are great, and I really love the armor.

Next, we have the Ice Devil, an uncommon Large. While the paint scheme may be simple (ice), I love the detailing of its carapace, and the spear is freaking cool. This figure is based off of art from the Bestiary Box, and I really feel it does this devil service.

To wrap up our devilish lineup is the Apostate Devil, which is a rare medium in this set. I think my favorite part of this figure is his cloak, which,if you look closely, is made out of the skins of its victims. Would you like to join its collection?

Since it's fall, why not top off this week's preview with some festive snakes? To start, we have the Viper Vine, an uncommon large. The texturing and root fangs this things has is the stuff of nightmares. Think it is safe to take a day trip to see the fall colors? Wrong. Leafy poisonous death awaits.

Next, what is better than a giant snake? A giant snake with two heads that can split and reattach as need be to more easily hunt you down and eat you. Meet the Amphisbaena, an uncommon large figure. This figure is just down right cool, and if any of your players have Ophidiophobia, I highly suggest you pickup at least one.

Finally, while not snakelike in shape, still slimy, gross, and creepy, is the Canopy Lurker, a rare medium. Afraid of Octopi? Well then this is a must have miniature, because this is a giant carnivorous octopus that lives on land! Yay! I really like the color transitions, and the face is nightmare fuel.

Check back next time for more Maze of Death reveals!

I love that first one. I have high expectations for the quality of that mini now. That ice devil, though, looks awfully boring in color. The canopy lurker looks cool and creepy.

I have wanted a decapus since I ran Palace of the Silver Princess in the early '80s. So cool to finally have one! :D

All six are very nice additions to the line. I really hope the final production mini captures the colours on the canopy lurker, the psychedelic purple, green, red combo really makes the mini pop.

I agree with James above the ice devil is a little bland in colour, so I imagine I'll add a subtle white/pale blue hilight or a darker shade to it.

The viper vine and apostate devil are the true gems here. The detailing and colours are great, that viper vine looks to be an incredibly large mini.

While I like the Amphisbaena I'm not sure how or when I'll use it.

Thanks for another reveal Mike in what must be a very busy time for you.

-Pitborn Fighter: looks good, but too distinguished for a common, uncommon would have been better.

-Ice Devil: I don´t like it, the artwork from page 77 of the Bestiary is far superior and shows a more bulky carapace (a +18 natural armor has to come from somewhere) than this too thin version with antenna longer than the spear. At least the rarity is right.

-Apostate Devil: Looks different than both artwork pieces, especially the cloak. But as it´s a rare, i don´t care.

-Viper Vine: A good adaptation from the artwork from page 279 of Bestiary 2. The Organization entry of this CR 13 plant says "solitary", but we have gotten so few plants in PFB that i don´t mind.

-Amphisbaena: This one is nice, the size seems to be alright (14 feet) and also the rarity.

-The Decapus/Canopy Creeper looks awesome and i would like more than one, but i can understand why the color scheme only works as a rare miniature.
Besides that, it´s Bestiary 2 entry says "solitary or mated pair".

We have now seen renders of 28 of the 52 Maze of Death minis in this blog, 24 remain and 4 weeks (30 days) till release.

Canopy Creeper - Great to have something close to the octopus for Summon Monster

Pitborn Fighter looks like it would be a good Tiefling Melee figure.

Good to see we're rounding out the devils with the Ice and Apostate variety. The last three sets have given us such a great devil selection. Also, that viper vine looks great.
