So, good work so far guys. I think we may have a group in motion here. I'm not hearing any issues with the characters mixing so far, so next I'd like to start seeing them, see some stats, etc. So, what I have done is set up a new LINK, also available above. This is the formatting you should use to display your character in your alias profile. Feel free to load it in the current alias you are using for now, once we get them more solid we can create new aliases to match and load them there.
If you have any questions on how the format works or where to put something, feel free to ask, either here or on chat. This is the standard format for NPC/Monsters used by Paizo in their publications so there is plenty of examples available for use to look at.
Keep it up guys.

I'll try to post mine tonight. I haven't quite finished buying gear. I'll stay below 6000gp for now to keep flexible.
Kaaras, if the snake is going to be a solid melee character, I may change around and drop Falconer so I can concentrate on two-weapon fighting since the Falconer archetype does somewhat hinder that progression by taking up feats. It's only a bird, so it's not going to be THAT formidable.
Dobreev |
Dobreev - Is your alchemist going to handle traps? (Skill/Rogue?)
The alchemist will likely have some ranks in Disable Device, but not Trapfinding. I've been a little underwhelmed by the archetypes that provide trapfinding. They're not exactly the themes I've been shooting for.
Besides, it feels like every trap I've ever attempted to disarm in almost any game I've ever played even with a character built to disarm traps has always just gone off anyway. lol
Atajinn Whimspeaker |
I've put the gunslinger aside and I'm leaning toward an Arcanist. Heavy energy damage (Fire, Cold, Electricity, leaving Acid to the alchemist) at a range of 30'. Zero martial skills. Good CHA and social skills. Also... very likely, a gnome.
If anyone wants me to have a particular spell off of the Wizard/Sorc list to complement their character's abilities just let me know. (Up to 2nd lvl spells atm).

So, I know I have to update my profile a bit. I already spotted a few things to update and a few things that may be wrong.
I have some questions for the GM:
---I noticed Atajinn has a Pathfinder Society chosen. Do you want all of us to do that?
---Do you want us to include the weight and cost of every item we have?

Short and easy answers...
NOPE and NOPE. You can if you choose to, but I do not need you to.
What I would like, and I guess I should have been more direct on this, is for the extras (animal companions) to have there own alias and profile. It's not as big with companions as it is with familiars but the animals can have their own voices, emotions, and actions. I actually works pretty well from what I have seen of the format. My familiar in the other game is fun. I will also make a mirror alias of it so I may post in character for you to interact with (but don't worry, you have control during most situations).
This also brings up something I want to mention to Kaaras specifically, but may apply to others at times. Since you will have multiple forms, you should have multiple aliases. I am not aware of a limit to the number of aliases (I 14 currently) and each can be different (though they also have to have different names, but we can work with it) so we can add in the stat changes for shifting into a new form and change the picture to match as well.
So, everything seems to be coming along. I like the work so far. There are some tweaks that need to be worked out and we will start addressing them individually. I am now looking forward to hearing the story you guys are going to come up with together and then we can move on to actual play. I already have a starting scenario set up and a few seeds to possibly plant.
Atajinn Whimspeaker |
Atajinn is a pesh merchant from Yavipho. He's been at it a long time (upwards of 40 years). Yavipho is a hidden/well-guarded underground gnome city near the eastern coast of Katapesh. Yavipho is famous for its manufacture of high quality "pho" pesh (up to 10x the value and potency of regular pesh).
Atajinn likely has a trade route in Solku and makes regular visits to town. Gnoll slavers tend to be a problem in both Solku and Yavipho so he takes care to avoid them when he can. Maybe it's time to deal with a few them?
Dahrani Al-Jahron |
If Atajinn is looking to avoid slavers, then Dahrani would be helpful for that, since he'll do anything to avoid and/or kill slavers. Our characters can know each other that way.
I'd imagine I'd also know Kaaras because we're similarly-minded. At the very least we'd know of each other, but it's entirely feasible that we know each other personally.

GM Question:
Wilheim, when creating his profile, ignored the set fields there to be filled in. His profile looks a lot cleaner than the others.
Should we all do that?
That I will leave to the individual, but I agree it looks cleaner. I had never left it unfilled to see it this way. I think it couldn't hurt.

I also want to point something out to everyone, something that Ebonezer mentioned. Your characters all know each other, have known each other for a little while. And your gear is kind of a communal pot. Along with that goes that you can probably take advantage of any crafting advantages that the other players may offer.
Specifically of note is Wilhiem. Unless he has a reason you would not have crafted items for you, I would say that any alchemical items you purchase should be at 1/3 cost and any potions of spells he has available to him would cost 1/2. If he does not have the spell in his spell book, it costs full price.
In addition, if anyone has considered a mount, you could upgrade a simple riding horse to a war horse, as Kaaras and Dahrani should be able to train them. This may help some decisions.
Dahrani Al-Jahron |
I'll update all my gear costs accordingly and probably buy a horse for a mount (and in turn train it as a warhorse). I'm sure we'll need mounts.
As for backgrounds and "how we know each other", I've got 2 of the 3 others figured out:
Atajinn: As a traveling merchant, there is no doubt that he has needed a guide in his travels between Katapesh and Solku. I'd imagine that Atajinn is a "repeat customer" of sorts for my services.
Kaaras: As a fellow nature-inclined spirit of Solku, I have no doubt we are familiar with each other's work, even if we wouldn't exactly share the same clientele.
Wilheim: I'm still not 100% sure about this one. If he holds some notoriety in town, then there's no dobut we've all at least heard of him. But I'm not sure how I would have crossed paths with him, unless introduced to him by one of the others.
It may also be a good idea for us to come up with what the 4 of us have been doing together for "5 levels".
Kaaras, you can create URL links in your profile, but I'm not sure if there are rules about linking to the PRD. I have links in Kaepora's profile.
Kaaras Serpenttongue |
Oh I'm not that worried about links, that would be a lot of work to have everything on the sheet link to the PRD, but maybe one day Ill have it done.
I'm sure we know each, and have gotten more familiar with each passing of each other's path. Kaaras probably got bored one day and decided to walk with you and Atajinn, listening to the funny gnome talk all day. If he did have repeat business with you, then Kaaras probably found it entertaining and different than his everyday wanderings and decided to make it routine of traveling with you two when you were both in the area. And I probably would have introduced Wilheim to Dahrani and Atajinn for actual trade purposes at a discount because Kaaras has been known to aid him in finding mats for his potions when he needs the extra help.

I like what I am seeing so far in the discussion, I admit though I haven't read all the stuff in the profiles yet. I will say that the "5 levels" is not a full requirement. 1 or 2 will be enough, but if you want to go all out I won't stop you.
Keep it up.

The interconnections are great. Building off each other is what I want to see.
Now, as I have mentioned to each of you individually, I am looking into some unusual rewards and bonuses. Some may need to be researched in character, others will be RP stuff, most will have at least some mechanical bonus. Basically for the PFS crowd, think of them as Boons, but tailored for the individual PC or the group as a whole. I've got a few ideas so far, some I've mentioned, others I am keeping as a surprise. More to come here, but I am interested in feedback on the idea. Do you like the concept? What would you be interested in seeing (keep it reasonable or I bring in the Deck of Many Things and we all know what that means).
Atajinn Whimspeaker |
As far as the mount goes. I've got the Mount spell in my spellbook for myself. Atajinn does nearly everything physically straining with magic if he can (unseen servant, mage hand, open/close).
Atajinn: As a traveling merchant, there is no doubt that he has needed a guide in his travels between Katapesh and Solku. I'd imagine that Atajinn is a "repeat customer" of sorts for my services.
This is exactly what I had in mind. Atajinn's trade route likely visits all the major towns and cities in Katapesh. Solku is a popular spot since he has friends there.
Kaaras probably got bored one day and decided to walk with you and Atajinn, listening to the funny gnome talk all day.
You're not the only one who likes his company. He's a good time though, loads of stories.
As for Wilheim, I pictured he and Atajinn having academic pursuits in common. Atajinn deals in more than just pesh and has a fondness for collectors of all kinds. He would be happy to journey in search of alchemical reagents as well as rare finds to sell.

So "boons" like one shots? Equipment that doesn't exist in published material? home made spells? Is this what you're talking about?
I not really fond of this idea. I think this type of thing should be extremely limited. There's already a vast many things available to customize what we want. We don't need to re-invent the wheel, we just need to be able to afford it.
Dahrani Al-Jahron |
I have to agree with Atajinn. I'm not exactly keen on the idea of unique things here. I think that works better with in-person campaigns. If it's the same to everyone, I'd like to keep in line with published materials. There's a plethora of stuff available to us, and we collectively have access to a vast majority of published books. I don't think there's a need to strain ourselves.

Not exactly. Thing more along the lines of the more permenant bonuses. Less one shots and odd gear, more bonuses to certain roles, more unique abilities outside the norm, ways of adding things that aren't easily available.

Alright, we seem to moving along with the characters pretty well. Which I like. I still have to go over them completely but so far things look good. I plan to send each of you some notes on things I see and ideas.
With that said, I think it might be time to set everyone up on Roll20. I have made the tags and several maps so far. I am also loading several more today. It is my hope to have each of you set with YOUR characters as soon as possble, and when I see you sign up to the game, I will assign the character to you.
I am not asking anyone to use Roll20 for anything other than mapping and I will use it as a visual tool (HP, etc.) IF you wish to try to use it for character record that is your choice but I will still need you to maintain the profile-sheet as well. I will not be logging into Roll20 to get stats nor will I keep them in there.
Here is the link to JOIN. After we get everyone set up on it, I will put a permenant link on the top of the campaign where everything else is. I will also be condensing the pregame stuff to one link in a while, where all the files can be accessed in a folder.
If there are any questions, let me know.
Talalmackk Chirronna |
So, we are winding up to actually getting it started. We still have a few things to work out for the characters but I suspect that will be wrapped up soon. I'd like to start the actual game by Monday (earlier if possible (though I am going away for the weekend and I am not sure if I will be able to get online).
With that said, we now need to wrap up one of the last elements of the "back story" and that is the treasure you would have amassed from you latest adventure taking out a pack of gnolls.
So, what I need each of you to do is make some rolls. This will be good practice on formatting as well. There will be 5 rolls each. I would like each roll to be formatted as a spoiler titles Roll 1, Roll 2, etc. If you are not sure of the formatting, let me know and I can assist you.
These are straight 1d20 rolls. No mods, no nothing. Just 5 rolls of 1d20. I will then, based on the roles consult the charts of random treasure I have compiled. Once all the rolls are done, I will make a final roll and then I will give you the full list of what you got.
So, who will be first to roll?
