Male Human Magic User Level 1

Medraut speaks to the others, without shouting - It seems to be some sort of construct. We should attack it with fire and avoid cold, since it may harden it.

He then proceeds with a few, short word of power, and from his fingertips two rays of energy emerge, flowing flawlessly towards the animated creature.

Magic Missile: 2d4 + 2 ⇒ (2, 3) + 2 = 7

Female Human Cleric / 2 | HP: 16/16 AC: 15/10/15 CMB: 0 CMD: 11 | Init: +1 Per: +4 | Channels 4/5 | Saves: F: 4 R: 2 W: 7

"Unfortunately, I did not prepare any fire spells today." Lirana draws her morningstar and attempts to move in and attack the waxen figure.

attack 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
damage 1d8 ⇒ 4

Lirana's swing misses the mannequin by a mile but the erratic movements of Medraut's magical missiles make it impossible for the wax golem to dodge his attack. Strangely, the energy doesn't seem to harm the creature in any way!

With another powerful blow the creature lashes out at Seymor.
Slam: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 231d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

GM only:
AC 15; HP 29/42;
Slam: 1d20+6; 1d6+3

Corso repeats his pattern of sword movement, but this time, striking high with a stabbing cut.

"This place is full of candle, but we don't have fire!"

Arcane Strike: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 251d8 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 7 + 1 = 10

HP 22/22 || AC 9/9/9 || F+3/R+1/W+7

"Maybe that is for the best," Adalieh huffs as her ward is broken by the creature. She does a follow-up gesture as the sapphire ward reappears over Seymor. "Fire is fickle. I'd rather not set this place alight. We do not need more attention from the townsfolk as is."

Recast the Ward hex on Seymor.

The mannequin is hit by Corso's attack without any chance to avoid the blow and the bard's sword cuts off a large chunk of wax. But the strange creature still keeps going.

GM only:
AC 15; HP 19/42;
Slam: 1d20+6; 1d6+3

Waiting for Lirana, Medraut and Seymor

Male Human Fighter / 4

Seymor Smiles at the glowing aura around him as he stabs the creature once more.

Longspear +1 Attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
Piercing Damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14

The fighter's precise but powerful stab pierces the golem's so-called skin badly. One more attack like this, and the creature will most probably collapse.

Gm only:
AC 15; HP 5/42;
Slam: 1d20+6; 1d6+3

Lirana and Medraut still up

Male Human Magic User Level 1

Seeing the creature about to collapse, Medraut dashes forward, attempting to hit it with his quarterstaff.

Attack:1d20 - 1 ⇒ (13) - 1 = 12
Damage if it hits: 1d8 - 1 ⇒ (5) - 1 = 4

Unfortunately for the wizard, his inapt attack is easily dodged by the living candle, despite its severely damaged state.

GM only:
AC 15; HP 5/42;
Slam: 1d20+6; 1d6+3

Lirana is the last one in this round

Lirana delays

With no sign of emotion or pain on it's life-less face the golem once again tries to hit Seymor with his tallowy arms.

Slam: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 81d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9

GM only:
AC 15; HP 5/42;
Slam: 1d20+6; 1d6+3

Corso is happy for Seymor's presence. He moves left, putting his weight on his right hip as he pivots to bring momentum to the blade's horizontal arc.

Arcane Strike: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 141d8 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 7 + 1 = 9

Corso's elegant swing misses the creature by an inch.

GM only:
AC 15; HP 5/42;
Slam: 1d20+6; 1d6+3

In any order: Medraut, Lirana, Adalieh, Semymor

HP 22/22 || AC 9/9/9 || F+3/R+1/W+7

Adalieh slips around the creature to Seymor, murmuring a quiet string of incomprehensible words. She touches his shoulder and mends his wounds.

Healing hex on Seymor.
1d8 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12

Male Human Magic User Level 1

Medraut once again opts for moving forward with his staff, saving his spells.

Attack: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (12) - 1 = 11

Still waiting for Seymor (sorry for the typo in the last post) and Lirana

Male Human Fighter / 4

Seymor freshly healed, takes another Jab at the Wax like creature.

Longspear +1 Attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
Piercing Damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7

Not one of Seymor's best combinations but certainly effective, he impales the golem that slumps down entirely motionless.

No more initiative order

Corso lifts the thing's injuries to see what was inside: "Did we just kill a monstrosity or a wonder of a new age? Does it blees? Was it dead or built?"

The remains of the creature are solid wax all the way to the core. Nothing mechanical or organic can be seen inside it.

And no, there's no wick ;-)

Corso rubs his short beard, puzzled. He looks to the others. "There is no wyck. So it wasn't a fancy candle for some rich client. This was some kind of guardian. We're on the right track! Let's search this place inside out!"

He proceeds back to the room with the trapdoor, and opens it.

When Corso touches the trapdoor, he feels static energy building up in the air for a split-second before the energy discharges in a lightning arc, shocking the bard full-on.

Reflex Corso: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Electricity damage: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 5, 2) = 13

All this hardly takes a moment and as the electricity dissipates nothing remains in the air but the smell of burned flesh.

"Calistria's torn b**b!!! What an idiot! Ouuuuh... I'm dizzy... Let me sit a bit." Coros sits on a pile of books nearby, but the books don't cooperate and slip under his weight. He crashes to the floor, body still jittering. "I'm all right..."

Slowly, he comes back to his senses, lifts himself back up and replaces his clothes and scabbard. "Now! Do you think it's safe to open?"

Male Human Magic User Level 1

"Corso, are you ok? That was unfortunate"

Medraut will cast Detect Magic, and look for other auras in the room.

HP 22/22 || AC 9/9/9 || F+3/R+1/W+7

"Ah, how reckless..." Adalieh muses, watching Corso get shocked by the trap. "Permit me to heal that."

She mutters once more, a similar string of incomprehensible words, hovering her open palm over the damaged flesh.

Healing hex on Corso.
1d8 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10

Corso smiles at Adalieh and adds a short bow: "My thanks Lady Esmendra! I am pleased with the Grace you shared so with me. I shall make a short offering to your patron... Which is?"

Medraut:
You sense a very faint aura emanating from something under the bed. You concentrate on it and determine the school to be enchantment. Besides that, you find no more magic in the room.

Male Human Magic User Level 1

Turning to the others, Medraut communicates his findings - The room seems to be clear of magical auras, with the exception of a faint aura coming from under the bed - I cannot discern exactly what it is, but it should not pose an immediate threat. We need to check what it is exactly though.

HP 22/22 || AC 9/9/9 || F+3/R+1/W+7

Adalieh smiles at Corso as she gestures at Medraut and the bed. "Oh, worry not, we have more pressing matters to attend than offerings."

"Any idea what manner of aura?"

Male Human Magic User Level 1

Well... Medraut ponders for a moment - It is an aura of enchantment - usually related to mind affecting incantations - attempts at influencing and/or controlling one's behavior.

Actually, the school divides itself into Charm and Compulsion, meaning that the first grants you influence over a creatures' actions and feelings,changing how the subject actually views you, while the second actually forces or imposes a behavior on its victim, modifying in some cases the way its own mind works, determining the subject's actions or the effects on the subject, while others allow you to determine the subject's actions, and still others give you ongoing control over the...

Realizing he is digressing, Medraut pauses for another moment - Huh... The final conclusion will actually depend on what we will find under the bed - we need to check.

Corso looks up to the ceiling, shrugs and flips the bed, wondering what the fates have left in store for him today...

Under the bed sits a small wooden lockbox.

Male Human Magic User Level 1

One moment please Corso, and step away from the box... I will try to open it from a distance, and attempt to keep us all safe. It will only work however if the box is unlocked.

Mechanics: Medraut will wait for the others to clear some room, and use a Mage Hand to attempt and open the box :D

Corso takes a few steps back, the smell of his burnt nose hair still lingering in the room.

HP 22/22 || AC 9/9/9 || F+3/R+1/W+7

Adalieh steps away with Corso, glancing at the lockbox with some curiosity.

"Do you reckon it will be trapped?" she says in a quiet whisper to Corso. "The wax golem, the trapped trapdoor..." she smiles, "He does feel the need to go to these lengths to protect ... what is beyond the trapdoor...?"

She waits for Medraut to work his magic.

The box almost tips over when Medraut tries to open its lid with an unseen hand. To everyone's disappointment, it remains closed however and appears to be locked.

Male Human Magic User Level 1

"It is locked, or at least closed shut - maybe it is best we take it along with us to examine it more thoroughly at a later time? Unless some important clue lies within..."

Looking around at the group he adds - "Ideas?"

HP 22/22 || AC 9/9/9 || F+3/R+1/W+7

"Let us take it with us. I'd like to find out what's below that trapdoor first and foremost."

She steps over to the trapdoor and nudges it gently with her foot. "Anyone wish to do the honours?"

"With pleasure Adalieh!" Corso makes a short bow to the witch and open the trapdoor, wince at the memory of electrical pain.

He peeps in, exhaling as he relaxes a bit.

Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18

A short ladder in the wall leads down to a room that is piled high with crates and boxes filled with candles and packing material. Though there was once some semblance of order to this place, it is long gone as spools of twine, pots of dye, and other elements of candle manufacture have been dumped here haphazardly.

In the cone of light falling in through the trap door, you can clearly see the lifeless body of a human woman. The corpse is splayed out on the ground in a pool of blood, and she has a large gash in her throat.

Male Human Magic User Level 1

"Very well then" - Medraut picks up the box to get an idea of its weight, and gather if he will manage to transport it without being bogged down.

After the trapdoor is open, he again focuses his arcane power as he looks down the trapdoor, looking for traces of magic in the room, and particularly on, or around the corpse.

Cast Detect Magic :D

"I think she's dead..." says Corso, then taking a closer look at the woman's clothes and hair to get a sense of her before climbing down.

The box is not very heavy and its contents jingle quietly as Medraut picks it up.

Medraut:
You can't discern any magical auras in the room below.

The body of the woman lying on the ground is dressed in simple craftsman's clothing with specks of wax covering her apron. Her hair is thin and soaked with blood and her skin has the same waxy complexion that you have already seen before.

"Mmmh... Do we know if he had a wife? And I don't think the other... 'thing' bled, no? Sounds like this one might still have some fight in her. I'll go down first. stay up here until I test her..."

Corso starts going down the ladder, somewhat slowly at first, in case the others have something else to suggest. If not, he'll reach the bottom, take out his sword and nudge the body with the tip, ready to stab, then, if nothing, moves, he'll make for a pile of paper, as it seemed to have triggered the moving candle upstairs.

HP 22/22 || AC 9/9/9 || F+3/R+1/W+7

"Do be careful," Adalieh says with a slight grin, her voice soft all the same. She gestures towards Corso as the same sapphire sheen envelops him from harm.

Ward hex on Corso.

She then turns her attention to Greywhisper's emotional state, the raven flying above the house.

Adalieh:
Greywhipser's emotions are calm and relaxed.

As Corso climbs down the ladder, he catches some movement in the corner of his eye and turns to spot a strange creature, humanoid in shape but completely pitch black, lunging at him from the shadows by the wall. To his suprise, he suddenly feels the touch of something else on his back, reaching into him and sapping his strength.

incorporeal touch attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 121d6 ⇒ 2 Strength damage

Mechanics:
Corso failed to made his perception check to spot one of the shadows (1) but the other one (2) got the drop on him. Don't forget that you normally do not get your Dex bonus (and thus dodge bonus as well) when your climbing.
Surprise round is over now, please post an Initiative roll with your next post and I will resolve events in order. I post the shadows initiatives so you can adjust your actions accordingly.
I presume a battle map will not be necessary for this fight. The room below 25 by 20 ft. with the ladder landing in a corner of the room. One shadow is right behind Corso, the other one is 20 ft. away.

Shadow 1 Init: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Shadow 2 Init: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16

Male Human Magic User Level 1

GM Null, are we going to roll initiatives?

As I wrote in the Mechanics spoiler, yes. I probably should have named that spoiler better...

HP 22/22 || AC 9/9/9 || F+3/R+1/W+7

Initiative: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (11) - 1 = 10

Adalieh, sensing the ward dissipate, immediately redoes it on Corso as swiftly as she can.

Ward Hex on Corso again.
