Yes it does. I mean balance is insane with the action economy that is doubled due to mythic. They are level 10 and tier 1 right now and I have watched them slaughter my baddies in one round. Boss fights have to be way more modified to be scary. But I have made them fear their loot so it is working, sort of. The forums are helpful.

Eventually I want to run that campaign on the boards but that will take a while.

Sorry folks, didn't have much time for posting today... it is Valentine's Day after all!!! Tomorrow might be a bit tricky as well - travelling and suchlike... will see what I can do :)

We should be leveling up sometime soonish. And Rigo will get his first class level. I'm leaning in one of two ways :

1) Unarmed Fighter

Pros :
Gain Unarmed Strike
Gain +1 bonus on attack and damage rolls with weapons in the monk and natural weapon groups (Weapon Training)
Gain DR/— equal to half his fighter level against nonlethal damage or damage taken while he is grappled (Which by a strict reading, is both when he grapples others, or when they grapple him).
D10 Hit Die
Gain Light Armor

Cons :
Pitiful Skill List
Sucky Reflex Save
Only gains Light Armor

2) Slayer

Pros :
d10 Hit Die
Good Skills Progression
Good Fort & Reflex Saves
Gain Light & Medium Armor
Gain Sneak Attack on all attacks (With flanking buddy)
Gain Slayer Talents (Trapfinding & if GM ok with it Catfolk Slayer for Deadly Claws (do d8 on claw sneak attack damage))

Cons :
Can't really find any to be honest...

Any other suggestions?

Fun! What fighting style do you envision?

After reading the Tabaxi entry on d20PFSRD, wow. What a candy store.

I think that of those two, Slayer > Fighter. Rigo's mobility could set up lots of flanking sneak attacks, and we already have a rogue who will likely be hunting for the same.

My similar question: Moira will get a free level one necromancy spell as dirge bard. I can grab one from any arcane list. Anyone have thoughts on these finalists or further suggestions?

Chill Touch
Cause Fear (will also affect undead, which could be hilarious--but I might just take this normally since it is on the bard list)
Ray of Sickening
Ray of Enfeeblement

Of those, I'm currently liking the ones that can make undead flee (Cause Fear and Chill Touch).

Honestly, you might want to look at :

Sculpt Corpse : This could be a good way to get off the guard radar, leaving your dead body to be found somewhere.

Litany of Weakness : Automatic no-save suck spell. Target gains Fatigued status for one turn.

Bleeding Strike : Add Bleeding to a slashing melee weapon damage, and increase the heal DC to stop it by your stat mod.

While making undead flee is great, the above can all be useful either out of combat or against many targets.

Slayer's don't automatically get a style, but can take one via their talents, which would obviously be the Natural Weapon style (gaining access to a few bonuses).

Oh, by style I meant--natural weapons, or are you going to stick with the estoc and do a hybrid? Or change entirely? Not "style" in the more specific sense.

On the spell suggestions:

Sculpt looks cool and that use would be great for us right now, but I'd likely buy a scroll and UMD since I doubt I'll be needing to leave dead Moiras all over the city. Good spell for a mortician though.

The Litany was on a thread of suggestions for Dirge Bards so I checked it out--but I'm pretty sure it's divine only (inquisitor, antipaladin) and therefore disqualified. If there's a way to make it arcane, then, yeah, that's an amazing spell!

Which leaves Bleeding Strike. I've never once seen bleed in action, seems to me that 1 damage over time is not likely to swing a fight and I don't see how it would be useful out of combat--have you seen it do cool stuff?

Oh, he'll mostly do claws, but also keep 3-4 exotic weapons on him for when his claws/bite/rake aren't doing enough damage. That estoc is a nasty weapon when you crit with it. And it does more damage on a single hit than his claw, bite, or rake. So good for high-armor opponents, since he'll basically crit any time he hits.

He can use any weapon, including exotics, so having a few exotics with unusual abilities around is never wasted.

As to the bleed thing, I've found it's best for making sure you can catch things that try to run. After all, they leave a trail of blood you can follow, and if they stop to heal it, you catch them. Basically it's not a fight ender, it's an escape preventer.

Even if they heal it with magic, they've still bled out all over their clothes, meaning they leave a strong scent behind, and given we have a scent tracker...

Oh, and sculpt isn't limited to Moira's likenss, she could make fake corpses of any of us. As I read it, she could make a dog corpse look like one of us, so that's not bad. :) But yeah, a wand or a spell page might work just as well.

Good food for thought, I'm putting Bleeding Strike near the top now, and demoting Cause Fear (I already have Hideous Laughter after all). Also considering that a ray might be nice as M doesn't have much to do at range.

1 person marked this as a favorite.
F

I liked the urban style myself.

And any of those spells could be really great. But I would go with one of the rays since that keeps you a little further from harm. We need someone to live when we all die. Someone to mourn us and you are good at that. Tell our story! Is that something you get at more levels? Because False Life is my favorite.

A question for everyone. Sometimes I write dreams that my characters have, and I was wondering if anyone would mind if I did that here?

I will say I have what I hope is a funny one for tonight, if and when we get to sleep. I'm just going to say that it was something that came about thanks to the cinnamon roll comment I made.

F

No issue. I am always all for stuff like that. One of my favorite classes to play in PbP is the Spiritualist because of the mental arguments the caster and the phantom can have. It is purely roleplay with myself but the people I play with seem to like it. Mostly though cause that phantom is a really salty dwarf who just hates everyone and is always being threatened by the young dwarf who has to live with him that he will never be let out if he cannot behave.

I tend to ramble but yes I have no issue with it. PbP's are interactive books to me. And this game seems to be begging for that level of mental introspection. I will get there but I am still feeling Alexis out.

Also I wanna go to the Golem Show!

Hi guys,

I really don't understand the attitude in Rigo's reply here. It's a fair question, and one answerable without resorting to this sort of callow response.

But perhaps I have missed something, and in one of my posts in some way offended Rigo's player. If that's the case, I do apologize. Beyond that, let's roleplay at being adults, yea?

Rigo has no plans to learn Tabaxi as was suggested, and he has no plans to learn Tabaxi because he already knows Tabaxi. :) The bit about learning English was a clue that you the player can't learn English because you already know English. :)

This should make you all cringe, if you are all English lit majors :

While working in college, I worked with the well child division. People would call in to get rides for their children to the hospital if they could not get them there themselves.

I had two children, twin brothers, called for a ride. Their names? Orangejello and Lemonjello. Yes, some one named their kids Orange and Lemon jello. When I asked how to spell the names (it's hard to realize it because the woman said the names as Orr-an-gel-o and Lem-On-Gel-O, and I never in my life thought I'd spell someones name as OrangeJello or LemonJello).

And, before you point to a snopes website, this was back in 1989, before the internet took off, and unlike most of these stories, I actually took the call. So it's not a 'my friend's mother's hairdresser' thing. I honestly didn't even know it had developed into a trope, I wonder if I started it by telling what happened. There are confirmed twins in Atlanta with those names, I wonder if they are the same twins?

I guess I'll say that the more I work with words, the more tolerant I become. I've edited hundreds of pages written by English profs, many more written by successful businessmen, and exponentially more written by students from all over the country (USA) and the world--and all were riddled with errors. Different errors, at different rates, but still.

Heck, I've learned to get an editor for my own work. I tell my students to try to learn the general rules of this language, but that their time is often better spent mastering their art/trade/science than seeking perfection in grammar, because editors exist and take care of successful people who can pay us. Note that I tell them this at the end of class, not the beginning.

Also, those names are intense, but they're also a heck of a lot more memorable and interesting than mine. I kinda wish names were less conventional. Like the Cubans in baseball have the greatest names because in Cuba (I hear) there's more of a culture of making up names for your kids, like Yuliesky, Yasiel, Yonder, Yunel, Yasmany, Yunesky, Yoan, and Yoenis, just to start with Cuban players with Ys.

Heck, Yasiel Puig could be reborn as an elf and wouldn't have to change his name. That must mean something in elvish... *rustle rustle on online Elvish dictionaries* hmm might sound something like "Daughter that is Now, the Pure."

I also had to arrange a ride for a boy named Arabian, which is not all that a bad name, except the surname was Herd. Parents shouldn't do that to their kids.

I knew a pair of twins named Gracey-Lynn and Maisey-Lynn, both with the same middle name (Lavernia, after their grandmother, she died just before they were born, like days). They went by Grace and May, so they wouldn't rhyme. People who pick rhyming names for twins should be horsewhipped (imho). :)

Some parents just don't think through the names, like Richard Harding for the kids name (yes, it got a lot of jokes at college, he was used to it).

I lucked out, my name wasn't much of anything you could twist into stuff.

Unusual ins't an issue, but things like naming your son Sue is only good in a comedy song.

F

I occurs to me that in the last five years that I have been playing table top RPGs this is the first time any character of mine has been intoxicated. I think I failed at some point.

And those names are cringe worth. All of them.

On a related note, do not name your children 'the second' or 'the third' or whatever. You're stupid if you do, because all your credit information gets all mixed up together on your credit reports and it's a major pain.

My wife's brother is a 'the third' and both his father and grandfather had issues with their credit score because 'the third' is mentally ill and self medicated for years, and he kept getting cards because of their good credit scores, and then not paying them and bringing theirs down.

Yep indeed... it's kinda on our doorstep so we go there quite a bit for various events / exhibitions... It doesn't hurt that it's near to my local gaming shop and the kid's library... nor that it has a pretty fine coffee shop :)

I was reading an old issue of a literary and arts magazine that I write about, The New Age Jan 31 1918. I love being able to search for the sometimes-obscure artists and painters they discuss using Google, so I'm popping open tabs on all sorts of folks--C.R.W. Nevinson, Nina Hamnett, Henry Tonks. That issue discussed a painting titled "The Storm" by William Rothenstein. When I googled it, I ended up here:

The Storm

I noticed that that website says “The Storm” is at the Wilson in Cheltenham, but I can't seem to find it on the Wilson's website. Granted, the Wilson says the website is in progress.

The painting seems interesting. As of 1918, it was displayed as very contemporary, modern art, even though it looks pretty conventional to my eye--the magazine explained that the house looks a little funny because it is illuminated by a bright electric light just before a storm, and Rothenstein was trying to capture the eerie glow of the new technology. The pitch-black window is the key. Or so says The New Age which also, by the way, says it is a kind of boring painting. I’m not sure I 100% buy the magazine’s electric light theory, the shadows don’t seem quite right, but they would probably know better.

If it's in your neighborhood, give it a nod from me.

Honestly, I’d probably geek out harder over the antiquities and the arts and crafts stuff I saw while looking for the painting. Pretty amazing.

Oh dang, I just found the house in the painting using Google Street View! It doesn’t seem to have an address, but here’s the Lat-Long if you want to try to plug it in: 51.729764, -2.110221
