The bugbears' perception check proved that they were pretty oblivious to what was going on.

I adjusted the positions of players to where it would be reasonable based upon how you were following and the constraints of the surprise round.

Initiative:

Arindale: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18
Berashel: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13
Braden: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
Maegge: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Ranim: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17
Tybek: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22

Elemental: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (15) - 1 = 14

Round 1. Rocky

The earth elemental will keep his grip and squeeze his bugbear for 1d6 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11 physical damage

Surprise Round
Tybek silently sprints across the room - at least he thinks it is a sprint, due to the fact that he is a dwarf, it more closely resembles a penguin attempting to escape from a ravenous sea leopard. He then raises his axe and cleanly slices the northern bugbear across its chest leaving a gaping wound. Nonetheless, the bugbear remains standing, but just barely from the appearance. The earth elemental then silently rises from the ground and grasps the bleeding bugbear.

A second later, Tybek, seeing the bugbear bleeding, shifts to the right and slices out at the other bugbear with his double axes. This time he leaves the bugbear with a massive gouge to its head. Realizing that its foe is nearly finished, the elemental squeezes its arms as the northern bugbear slumps to the ground bleeding out.

Hoping to finish the combat quickly, Arindale then charges quietly across the room, at least quietly if one is deaf or finds thunderclaps to be quiet, and delivers a deadly blow which drops the southern bugbear like a log.

Combat over

Misc. Rolls:

1d20 ⇒ 15

With the bugbears lying bleeding on the floor, the room is once more silent, although the smell of burning bugbear hair from where one partially fell into the cooking fire is not a pleasant smell. Looking around, the room is mostly empty except for the dead bugbears and the fire. To the east are three evenly spaced doors while to the north a passage leads into what appears to be another room.

Like a large big nosed mouse, Tybek slowly creeps forward until he can see into the next room. What he sees is a large cavern carved from the natural rock into an almost square room nearly 40' to a side. It appears as though someone was recently here as there is a fire burning beneath a large cauldron in the northern corner and next to it is what appears to be a rather crude altar to some unknown evil god, one that demands sacrifices as you can clearly see the blood, and a few body parts, splayed about the altar.

The rest of the room contains an assortment of mismatched furniture. Broken barrels and kegs, a crate, a chest, several piles of pelts which appear to be used for sleeping. In addition, the entire room reeks with a horrible smell. Whatever lives here clearly is not to particular on their hygiene.

DESCRIPTION

You create a 10-foot-by-10-foot extra-dimensional hole with a depth of 10 feet per two caster levels (maximum 30 feet). You must create the pit on a horizontal surface of sufficient size. Since it extends into another dimension, the pit has no weight and does not otherwise displace the original underlying material. You can create the pit in the deck of a ship as easily as in a dungeon floor or the ground of a forest. Any creature standing in the area where you first conjured the pit must make a Reflex saving throw to avoid falling into it. In addition, the edges of the pit are sloped, and any creature ending its turn on a square adjacent to the pit must make a Reflex saving throw with a +2 bonus to avoid falling into it. Creatures subjected to an effect intended to push them into the pit (such as bull rush) do not get a saving throw to avoid falling in if they are affected by the pushing effect.

Creatures who fall into the pit take falling damage as normal. The pit's coarse stone walls have a Climb DC of 25. When the duration of the spell ends, creatures within the hole rise up with the bottom of the pit until they are standing on the surface over the course of a single round.

-E52 is a large cauldron on a fire. I don't think that its reflex save will be very good.

Round 1
After the initial surprise attack of the bugbears, Tybek suddenly finds himself surrounded by large creepy bugbears with mottled fur and bad hygiene - even Tybek finds their lack of bathing to be rather offensive and Tybek is the first to skip bathing if anything else of interest is going on.

Tybek quickly grasps his dual axes and flails about in a manner more reminiscent of an old lady swatting at annoying flies that a trained warrior. Shortly thereafter Ranim moves forward singing a song involving flying monkeys and evil witches. While not on point, it is more apt than some of her past tunes. This is followed by Arindale and Berashel charging forward. Berashel lands a devastating blow which while not felling the bugbear does leave a large slice from the bugbear's shoulder to its hip. Arindale does not attack, but instead calls on the Lord of Drink to provide him with something called Red Bull.

As this is going on, the two diminutive members of the team also spring into action. Braden causes a huge hole to open up beneath the feet of the two presumed leaders in the back of the room and then bravely hides behind a wall while the rest of the party fights.

Reflex(chief): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15

The large bugbear falls into the pit with what you are pretty use are words that even goblins would not say to their children. The shaman, however, manages to nimbly dodge to the side and avoid falling into the pit which swallows the chief and the burning altar.

Finally, Maegge begins to cast a spell and move forward to touch Berashel. However before the rather slow halfling is able to reach the sort-of-elflike warrior, Berashel has already taken off down the passageway.

At the same time, the party hears more shouts from the chief stuck in the pit.

At the same time, the shaman again begins to wave his hands calling upon whatever dark power is granting him divine powers. Suddenly in his hand appears an orb of twisting chaotic colors which churn and seem to almost boil. The shaman reaches back and throws this churning ball at Berashel striking the paladin and causing the paladins body to shriek in pain.

"Hey, where're you going? I was going to cast a spell on you!" Maegge asked in consternation when Berashel scurried off to fight the monsters.

Grumbling, he took off after him and released the contained magical energy into the elfesque warrior. Satisfied in his help of Berashel, he turned to dealing with the gouts of blood from an eviscerated Dwarf.

"Tybek, you're hurt! Get back here and I can help!" shouted Maegge over the din of battle, casting a spell to have ready for when he could touch Tybek with the magical, healing energy.

Move to (51,C), Swift to release spell energy on Berashel for +2 AC (Natural), Standard to cast/Ready Cure Light Wounds

By my count, Ty is now down to 5 hp. If he does a Withdraw, he'll only provoke a single Attack - but I'll be able to slap a CLW on him if he doesn't get hit and drop.

Just saw the updated map.

Braden darts to the other side of the corridor to keep the shaman in sight as he lines up his force bolts (G49).

Tybek - your choice, with Arindale moving and drawing the AoO, you can either withdraw behind Maegge and Ranim without an AoO, or 5-foot move to where Arindale was and full attack. Berashel will drop one bugbear with his attack. Let me know and I will get this round finished.

Dwarf Rogue 3 (hp: 31/31, AC 18, Touch 14, Flat 14, Perception +7 (+9 Traps), Stealth +13)

With only 5 hp, and 4 bugbears still standing, I cannot take another hit from these guys. I will withdraw without an AoO. Thanks.

Round 2 - recap
Following the assault by the bugbears, the party attempts to regroup. The party starts off with the cleri-tank deciding to ignore the bugbears before him and instead advance on the crazy, even for a bugbear, shaman.

AoO-@Arindale: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
Damage:1d8 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10

As Arindale runs by, one bugbear makes a massive swing with his weapon, which results in small shards of stone from the floor to fly about the room, but no damage to the cleric. When he reaches the cleric, Arindale lands a nasty blow with his morningstar.

Tybek, realizing that there is more dwarven blood on the ground than in his body, decides to fall back and receive needed treatment from the nature hobbit. Fortunately, the bugbear near him was still regripping his weapon after the failed attempt to knock out the cleric. A moment later the diminutive druid calls upon the powers of nature and a strange green glow envelopes the dwarf. Looking down, he sees his wounds being bound by what appears to be tiny green stitches that look almost like very small vines. Despite their rather odd appearance, his wounds appear to close greatly reducing the blood exiting his body.

While Tybek and Maegge play doctor, Ranim attempts to bring his wicked barbed whip to bear on one of the bugbears. However, her swing, rather hitting the bugbear, instead simply make a loud snapping sound which appears to surprise nobody but herself. Despite the unorthodox whip usage of the bard, the dragon worshipping paladin decides to continue the attack on the bugbears near him by moving to one side and then slicing across the midriff of a bugbear revealing that its last meal apparently included small frogs. After demonstrating its prior meal, the bugbear collapses to the ground unmoving.

As the rest of the party attempts to subdue the enemy, the almost-as-brave-as-a-schoolgirl hobbit wizard moves over to the other side of the passage remaining as far from the actual combat as possible. Despite seeking to avoid getting any blood on his robes, he does prepare to snipe the bugbear shaman should the crazed overgrown goblin attempt to cast any more spells.

After the party finishes off one bugbear and moves about the room, the bugbears continue their attacks against the party. First, the three remaining bugbears renew their attacks with two attacking Berashel and the third moving to strike at Ranim.

Attack-Bugbear0 @ Ranim: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22 **HIT**
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

Attack-Bugbear2 @ Berashel: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

Attack-Bugbear3 @ Berashel: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

One strikes landing a glancing blow on the singing bard, but the two facing the elvish appearing paladin fail to connect with their blows.

While the lesser bugbears fight for their lives, the shaman continues to call upon whatever dark power it revers. First it steps back and then raises its hands and another ball of chaos begins to appear in its hands. At that very moment, two white darts suddenly erupt from Braden's hands flying across the room and striking the shaman in its chest.

Concentration: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19 vs DC17

Despite the blows, the tough bugbear manages to shrug off the damage and throw the ball of chaos at Berashel once more.

Attack: 1d20 + 5 - 4 ⇒ (6) + 5 - 4 = 7

Unlike the prior attack, this ball fails to connect with the warrior of light, instead striking the wall behind the warrior creating a bizarre spectrum of colors to appear on the wall for a moment before flickering out of existence.

Climb: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25

While this is going on, the huge bugbear chieftain suddenly appears pulling himself out of the pit. When he appears, his face is almost bright red and it is clear that he is less than appreciative of the welcome the party gave him.
