Sigh. I though we were resting and I rest my stats when we bumped up mythic. I could go back and figure it out. Or perhaps the rush of mythic energy invigorates us?
Yridhrennor Arahaelon |
I'd much prefer to rest.
Galin Solatar |
My bad, I thought I responded with my suggestion. I'd say that it's a bad idea to ignore them, so our goal should be to clear them some way or another, ideally prefaced with a scouting expedition to find out what we're up against.
Galin Solatar |
That would be ideal Blink. Galin can accompany her if you want, since he has the second highest stealth, but that's still half of her modifier so it's your call.
Blink Vala |
Galin can join in - or not - as he prefers. That's why Blink can teleport, if things go wrong. Also, gonna have to dump some points in Knowledge (Engineering)
if I keep doing this.
Rolling her shoulders after the assault from the Chimera, Blink attempted once more to scout out the fortifications. Those Guard Towers needed to fall before they moved onto the city problem, or they'd get ground to meat between the walls and the attackers from those Towers.

You got a full rest in after the chimera, but no biggie to retcon this in then.

Blink slips into one tower and finds a single occupant, a demon not much taller than she is. It has the rough shape of a person, cloaked in tattered, singed robes that gaped open to show blue-gray skin marked with coiling stripes. Its eyes flowed and it breathed out noxious smoke. In its hand, the demon held a flaming sword.
No more did she see it than the demon marked her and rushed ahead with a roar. But Blink was faster, teleporting away like the wind.
Blink Vala |
"Huh," Blink mused, heading back to the others. "It seemed like the tower had a single demon inside it. Not sure if they've pulled back the rest for our attack, or if it was just that tower..."
Blink Vala |
"Let's see..." Blink consider for a moment. "Tattered and singed robes, blue-grey skin with coiling stripes, weird eyes and it breathed out nasy looking fumes. Held a fiery sword."

Yridhrennor gulps and frantically starts leafing through books. Falfaerel, hold these, please. He idly hands the raven loose scrolls and papers, which the bird begrudgingly calsps in his beak and talons.

Yridhrennor believes that Blink found a brimorak. They're much more closely associated with fire than most demons. He knows that cutting or piercing them is a dangerous proposition, as their blood literally burns on air. They also have various abilities related to flame, including the power to cast fireblals, turn armor red hot, and ignite any weapon they hold. They can be greatly harmed by cold.
Yridhrennor Arahaelon |
Um.. that is.. he peers down at his notes.. Yes, a Brimorak.. it's a fire-demon. Or, a demon associated with fire. Curious, that's more a trait associated with devils... I wonder if...
Get to the point, elf! Falfaerel pecks him on the head.
What? oh.. right.. sorry. Um.. Any attack that exposes its blood bursts into flame when it contacts the air. They can summon balls of fire, heat armor, and ignite any weapon they hold. Predictably, cold harms them a great deal.
Theran, Clan Silverlight |
"I can ward us against fire. Take away it's strongest weapon, then we go in to destroy it." he says with a focus on it.
I have six second level slots, so I can do resist energy on each of us, if needed.
Blink Vala |
Blink nodded. "If it's a one trick pony, let's take that trick away. Then teach it a new trick - play dead forever." Well, it had been moving to cut her up when she'd fled...plus she had Snowball as a reserve.
Yridhrennor Arahaelon |
Falfaerel guffaws. That would be an amazing trick!
Yridhrennor sighs. Was there any way to avoid the demon?

You could try sneaking by the tower or find some way to quietly disable it. Actually clearing the tower isn't necessary, but if you don't and get seen you might have Drezen come down on you.
Yridhrennor Arahaelon |
Falfaerel takes wing and flies, exploring the world about the tower.

Falfaerel returns with a good sense of the situation. From any of the towers, someone paying attention could see the towers to either side. Each looked to have occupants of some kind, though perhaps not many. He marked the demon that saw Blink, peering out of various arrow slits and windows still trying to find her. He was sure it would be hard to pass between, or perhaps even over, the towers without being seen from at least one. The builders of Drezen knew their business.
Blink Vala |
"Sounds like we need to take out enough towers to sneak the army through, and we need to do it fast enough that they can't send a warning for help." Blink considered. "Unless we don't especially care about them knowing we're coming, then we can just blow them up or something."
Samnell |

Maybe make it a quiet explosion? Just a little masonry and body parts flying through the air?
Theran, Clan Silverlight |
If we sneak, Theran will hold back a little. His feet have a tendency to attract twigs. But he's good at getting into battle quickly.
Steave Rojerz |
same for Steeve
Samnell |
The Crusaders set out between the watchtowers, taking the safest and quietest route. None marked Blink in the lead, but Theran and Steave ran afoul of loose stones and drew down a brief, intense battle with a trio of brimoraks who were easily dispatched courtesy of their fire wardings.
Soon they came before the heavy walls of Drezen itself, stained by fire and other things these many years but still standing tall. The gatehouse loomed first, a square box enclosing iron portals that hung open and bristling with arrow slits. As they approached the the portcullis and looked into the ramp beyond, strewn here and there with rubble, the Worldwound pressed silently on all sides. Arrow-straight, smooth stone couldn't make them forget the mad sky above or the light that bent shadows in odd ways. It seemed that, aside for the watchtowers, the demons had abandoned the outer works.
Blink Vala |
Saluting the others, Blink did what Blink did best - snuck onto the outer works to check for traps and amushes using her ability to teleport. Or tried to. There was a possibility the place had been warded against such skills and abilities, and she might need to climb instead. It was certainly a precaution she would take, if she was building a fortress.

How much space does she want between herself and the others?
Blink Vala |
Not too much - nothing that will prevent me fleeing if they have a Titan sitting in the Gate House.
Yridhrennor Arahaelon |
Falfaerel.. take wing. The raven nods and gtakes to the air to canvass the area.
Yridhrennor Arahaelon |
let's do a two-pronged thing, the bird can get a general overview of the area, and that could inform Blink about where might be the best places to investigate?
Samnell |

Ok
Before Blink gets too far ahead, Yridhrennor sends his raven aloft to search the area. He comes back with the news that battlements high on the walls Basically in each corner and atop Drezen's highest tower might allow admittance to a flying creature, but all were some ways up and stocked with siege engines. Ahead, the ramp led upwards to give every advantage to the defender. Eight unlovely statues of winged, horned demons crouched on platforms looming above. Beyond them stood a kind of atrium where heavy gates hung ajar.

So barrel on ahead?
Blink Vala |
Sounds like we'll wanna do something about those Statues (who thinks they're actually ornamental?) and those siege engines will likely get turned on us.
Theran, Clan Silverlight |
And we need to worry about what they've got in that jar hanging on the gates.
Blink Vala |
Not if it's holding a Demi-Lich bomb. Those are a lot of fun at Paladin birthday parties. Oh Way of the Wicked, the things we did...
Blink can't fly, so I'm not sure how to deal with the jar. And I'm guessing we'll need a team effort to break the masonry. Are the siege engines currently manned, or can they be disabled via sneakery?
Yridhrennor Arahaelon |
I think yridhrebbor could cast fly on peeps? Or we could have Fal or an elemental affect that jar?

The gates on your present level, past the statues you all are sure are evil, are ajar. Blink could deal with that evil crockery on her own. If she can climb or fly up to the parapets, she could disable device to work over the siege engines. They appear to be unattended just now, but no telling what might be watching from an arrow slit or something.
