Having finished the last hell hound Einar helps loot the chain shirts, "Would one of these work for Greta when she is in wolf form?"

He then nods to Crummock as he heals the party, "Thank you."

Hustling to catch up with Crummock and Geist, he follows him down the hall, "My buffs have warn out, and I'm running thin, I will try and save the last ones for something a little fiercer than the dogs."

Seeing that Greta is still quite shaken, Crummock gives her a comforting pat on the shoulder.

"I may nae be able to excise the memory, but I can at least soothe yer concern, bolsterin' yer spirits..."

He then casts Remove Fear on Greta (also covering Einar, Crummock, Dimitri, and Geist).

The corridor widens into a large cavern before ending precipitously at the edge of a chasm filled with slow-moving magma. Across the rift, the passage continues beyond a landing where two columns of stout, black rock buttress a low wall between them. There is a drawbridge to the buttress.

As the party emerges from the long winding corridor, they are greeted by 8 angry lumbering giants with short stumpy legs and powerful, muscular arms. Its hair and beard seem to be made of fire. 4 of them are behind a stone wall(cover), while the other four are at the ground level with their greatswords drawn.

Red line is the drawbridge to the ledge. It's magma, 20d6 dmg if you fall in.

Mr Whiskers Init: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
Einar Init: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
Crummock Init: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9

Mr Whiskers recognizes them as Fiendish fire giants.

The (min/level)buffs were up for the dog fight, now if any min/level buffs were up for linnorm fight, they are down now.

Dimitri kills his giant with 3 shots, then wounds another, which Geist pounces, but does not manage to do much to, as his bites and claws are not very effective and the fire does nothing to them.

Crummock pimp slaps, then drops another giant.

Will save: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13

Crummock - you do not need to roll for SR - you auto pass.

98 dmg done to light blue

Mr. Whiskers decides to make life more interesting for the giants on the other side of the lava.

He casts acid fog, trying to get as many of them as possible. He makes sure he has cover from the passageway in order to avoid becoming the target of too many rocks.

It looks to me like I can get the three to the south by centering it near the green giant. If you disagree, then just go for yellow and green thus filling that area.

'Giants, should have had my spear out, the glaive will have to do.' Stepping forward, glaive in hand, Einar begins to rage as he enlarges his cambion ancestry becomes prominent. "Don't you boys have the sense to run?" He then attacks the giant red repeatedly with the glaive.

Two of Einar's blows hit the ground.

The Light blue giant moves back, and Geist bites him.

Then it tries to grab Geist and stuffs him into the magma.

Its companion, seeing its success, steps back and attempts to do it to Crummock as well.

Greta steps up and starts tripping, then clobbering the red giant.

That not working too well, she starts hammering it.

Hammer: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7

She does not have much luck hammering through its chain shirt.

A creature falling into the magma continues to take 10d6 points of fire damage each round for 1d3 rounds after exposure ceases.

How did the giant grapple and throw Geist in one round? That isn't how I understood grapple to work. There are so many screwy feats out there, it might be something like that. At the moment, I'm just trying to understand it in terms of the rules.

Mr. Whiskers immediately casts Feather Fall on Geist when the giant throws him so that the big cat doesn't immediately fall into the lava.

Geist still has the resist fire too.

Then he casts Wall of Stone to give Geist a nice wide bridge to stand on. It leads from the edge where the giant threw him off to the bridge.

Throw was more of a fluff thing.

As a standard action, you can attempt to grapple a foe, hindering his combat options. If you do not have Improved Grapple, grab, or a similar ability, attempting to grapple a foe provokes an attack of opportunity from the target of your maneuver. (Which would provoke from Geist, except no reach).Humanoid creatures without two free hands attempting to grapple a foe take a –4 penalty on the combat maneuver roll. If successful, both you and the target gain the grappled condition. If you successfully grapple a creature that is not adjacent to you, move that creature to an adjacent open space (if no space is available, your grapple fails). At the point of grapple, Geist was not next to the Giant - so the Giant chooses where he wants to position Geist so he will be adjacent to him, and chooses in the lava.

By the looks of things, the giant is *just* within 30' of me...

Divine Interference, burning an 8th level spell slot: 1d20 + 22 - 8 ⇒ (16) + 22 - 8 = 30.

For a moment, it looks like Geist is going to be grabbed, but at the last second, a shield of golden mist forms around him, and he slips through the giant's fingers.

Dimitri then attempts to blow-up the Green giant.

I've always played it as the space had to be between the grappler and the victim. It doesn't make sense that you can grapple and reposition in the same turn, which is why I did it that way. Note that you can move them the next turn if you maintain the grapple, but in this instance they would get a bonus on the escape roll since it is a hazardous area.

As I said, I don't know the grapple rules very well. Looks like there is room for interpretation here. Hopefully the bridge saves it.

The giant tries to slam Crummock as he goes past.

I'm not sure how high the ceiling is...

Greta decides to stay where she is and readies to smack any giant that moves across the drawbridge. "Sorry." She apologizes to the party, sweating heavily. "I can't really get any closer to..."She gestures at the magama, "The magma, you know."

No, since it probably isn't "at death's door" - I imagine it still looks *relatively* healthy ;-)

Good point. I got the wrong creature. Since dark blue was in the fog, let me roll 20% concealment, since right at the edge

Crummock pimpslaps the giant to death!

After the acid fog wears off, the party finds a greatsword, 10 rocks and half plate on each giant.

Greta looks very scared at the idea of crossing the drawbridge across the magma. "Can you please tie me tightly to Geist's saddle, then get him to airwalk across? I don't trust myself to cross that bridge." Now that the fight is over, she is trembling from head to toe.

The drawbridge the giants were using to get across is a gargantuan assault bridge.

There is a camp behind them consisting of a shatterspike, figurines of wondrous power (golden lions), a wand of inflict serious wounds (17 charges), a platinum and- emerald necklace (worth 3,500 gp), a small diamond (worth 500 gp), two opals (worth 350 gp each), 360 pp, 5,300 gp, and 12,200 cp.

In addition, large metal metal locker stands against the southwestern wall. It contains charred foodstuff and barrels of bitter spirit.

Crummock makes a point of casting Remove Fear on Greta again, as well as Air Walk, hoping to assuage her fears as much as possible.

Noting with relief that everyone is unharmed, after making sure that the giants are dead (and dumping their corpses in the magma), Crummock boxes up the loot, and grimly continues down the corridor.

seeing Crummock kill the final giant, Einar releases his rage, smiling, "well done sword brother. Shall we see what treasures they have before we head on?"

He walks across the drawbridge to greet Crummock with a toothy smile, then searching the camp he finds the Shatter spike, "This is interesting, does anyone mind if I test it?"

Then finding the locker with bitter spirits, he pats his pack where the ceramic container is, winking at Crummock. "Who needs those, I have the jug Crummock game me."

if for some reason the bridge doesn't hold him I will retcon

The bridge holds Einar's weight and Greta tests out her airwalk, then nervously walks across, close to the celling as possible.

Gas jets erupt from the rock walls of this long hall to provide it with red-tinted illumination. Animated carvings of devils torturing the souls of the damned decorate the walls, and the floor is lined with a carpet of charred bones and cracked skulls.

Screams of pain and terror echo through the room, and the air is heavy with the stench of brimstone. Two rows of dark stone columns extend down the hall toward double doors of black iron at the far end.

The ceiling arches overhead, reaching a height of 60 feet in the center of the chamber.

A feminine fiend with twin tentacles stretching from the crown its head, with her lower body blooms in a gown of writhing tendrils, is torturing someone in blue, bloodstained robes. She lets the dead body drop, then she and six of her black winged handmaidens bearing longbows that look like fallen angels take into the air.

Everyone except Einar is assumed to be flying/airwalking 30 ft in the air. Einar is on the ground. Bad guys are 60 ft in the air.

Mr. Whiskers drops down and casts Wall of Stone to build himself a mantlet-like structure made of stone. It is large enough to hold three people with openings just large enough to cast spells or shoot out of. The back is open so he could escape or his friends enter that way.
