Syrak Divinion |
Syrak nods.
"Any chance we can fix that lift for them while we wait? I always like leaving the place better than we found it."
GM Crucible |
It is only a few minutes later when, after repositioning yourselves, Elneth and Zandirri see two figures appear from behind a stack of crates in the north wall. Perhaps there was a secret door that you missed.
At about the same time, the skylight creaks open, and a pair of silk ropes drop from the ceiling. Syrak is able to see two figures moving on the roof above.
Elneth, Zandirri and Syrak may act, as if in the surprise round (one action only)
Elneth |
Elneth reacts by casting cause fear on the man in the roof.
Will DC 13
If she has no line of sight, the half-elf woman will ready an action to cast it at the first enemy coming at range while keeping her body against the crates for extra protection against arrows.
Stealth: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (15) - 1 = 14
Syrak Divinion |
Syrak calls out "Ropes from the ceiling, and passage to the north!"
Syrak then moves closer to the danger, shouting to the intruders "Halt and identify yourselves!"
GM Crucible |
Elneth cannot see the two on the roof from her position.
Would you like to target one of the two on the ground instead?
Zandirri |
These have to be the Aspis, sneaking in like this
@GM Are they wearing Aspis Badges? We were told they would be :-) .
If they are wearing Badges, Zandirri will shoot whichever of the 2 to the north appears human or 1/2 human. If both or neither do, whichever is less heavily armoured.
If they are not wearing badges he will ready an action to shoot if hostilities break out, regardless of which side starts them.
long bow: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
+2 hit/damage if human
GM Crucible |
You information was that there would be two groups: one Kortos and one Aspis. Kortos left about 10 minutes ago, and this is a different group. ... Delroya did say they'd been instructed to wear them prominently (but that assumes they had 'em).
Zandirri doesn't see many "badges" per se (not in the usual "bronze badge"/"silver badge" sense, any way), but the figures he does see have an Aspis symbol worked into a cloak brooch, embroidered into a tunic, or tattooed across a forearm. Maybe these aren't ranking enough members to have actual badges. It's reasonable to conclude these are Aspis agents.

Elneth readies an action to cast a spell an her first chance.
Syrak yells, and charges forward. After his yell, several things, happen.
The Aspis operative continue to move forward. The man and half-elf woman on the roof begin descending silk ropes.
Climb: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
Climb: 1d20 ⇒ 14
As they come in to view, Elneth releases her spell. The rappelling agent is shaken, but manages to keep hold of the rope..
Will: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (12) - 1 = 11
Climb: 1d20 + 6 - 2 ⇒ (11) + 6 - 2 = 15
Zandirri initiates hostilities by firing his bow at the man in front with studded leather armor. His arrow hits, and pierces deeply.

Elneth |
Fixed initiative absence.
Sorry, had a busy day and perhaps I did not write properly. I could not hit the ones in the floor because the range of the spell is 25', thus I wanted to hit the roof or if no line-of-sight then wait for first creature at range.
Anyway your resolution seems great Crucible :)
After his save failure (Will DC 13) the man got the frightened condition
for rounds: 1d4 ⇒ 4
As Elneth finishes her spell she sits back on satisfaction after feeling it worked Thanks for giving me your strength my loved one!
"Zandirri, they are Aspis!" manages to add the half-elf woman to her colleague just next to her.
GM Crucible |
Sorry, you're right, Elneth: frightened, not shaken. I already had him do a second Climb check to see if he let go of the rope in fear.
Rozella hurries closer to the combat.
As she does so, the robed, armored Aspis agent hurries forward, and releases a crossbow bolt at Syrak. He's in too much of a hurry, and the bolt sails high.
light crossbow: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Screaming, as if the rope were on fire and a thousand cobras lined the floor beneath him, the green agent who had been descending the rope tries to clamber back up. He reaches the roof, and disappears from view.

Both to hit and damage are +2/+2 if he is human.
You never did answer: what races do these people appear to be?
Syrak Divinion |
Syrak calls out "For the Society!"
As he moves up tp the armored agent with the crossbow. I think that's who grey is.
Not wanting him to escape, Syrak tries to take man's legs out from under him with Syrak's glaive.
Trip: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
Syrak looks up towards the rope climbers, hoping to ward them off with his glaive.

As the fight breaks out not far from her Helane begins shouting a string of magical words and making arcane gestures. She seems to preoccupied with casting to really keep her mind on anything else.
Summon Monster 1, Summoning Eagle will appear next round
Elneth |
Elneth quickly loads her crossbow and setting aim to the Aspis close to Syrak, shots the weapon.
Darkwood light crossbow: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
Piercing damage: 1d8 ⇒ 4

GM Crucible |
@Zandirri: Three humans, one half-elf in pink.
Zandirri drops his target, and scouts the remaining enemies with a sniper's eye.
With practiced ease, Syrak trips his opponent. (Yep, gray had the crossbow.)
Helane begins casting a long, complicated spell.
Elneth shoots her target, and pins the prone figure [ooc](gray) to the floor.
From up above you, the pink agent continues descending the rope, ... Climb: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15
... she can't help but to move into range of Syrak's glaive, and it slices her nearly in two. She falls the remaining five feet in a wet thump at his feet.

Her cast finished, Helane directs her summoned Eagle up to the roof, prepared to attack the agent on the roof, and she fires an dart of acid at the agent lying on the ground.
Eagle Attack on Green: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 141d4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Acid Dart (Touch) on Grey: 1d20 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (1) + 1 - 4 = -21d6 ⇒ 5
Augment Summoning increases eagles Str and Con by +2, Summoners Charm increases summon duration by 1 round
Elneth |
Unsure of her aim against an enemy so close to Syrak and not wanting to wound the paladin, Elneth calls for her goddess luck and touches Zandirri next to her "Desna bless you!"
Zandirri@ Bit of luck: For the next round, any time you roll a d20, Zandirri may roll twice and take the more favorable result.
4/5 uses remaining
The half-elf reloads then her crossbow.
Beaumont Fontaine-Leveque |
Did the eagle's attack include the bardic performance?
Beaumont rounds the corner. Now able to see the remaining threat, he casts a spell, hoping to catch the Aspis off guard before he gets the chance to attack, then picks up his solo right where he left off.
Grease, DC 14 Ref.
From the description, it seems grey is standing, though the initiative still lists him prone. If he's standing, please consider this on the four squares marked in purple on the map. If he's prone, then on his weapon.
Syrak Divinion |
Correct, no combat reflexes.
Frustrated at his inability to hold off multiple foes Syrak spins as he steps back, trying mid sweep against the man in grey.

Syrak's blow and Helan's spell combine to fell the remaining foe.
—Out of combat—
I'm going to assume the fleeing Aspis member doesn't return by himself, and is too afraid to report his failure to others.
You search the bodies of the fallen Aspis members, and find the sorts of sundries you'd expect from low-level mercenaries: several potions of cure light wounds (5), two tanglefoot bags, 3 smoke sticks, 5 daggers, a thunderstone. Your attack overwhelmed them before they could use any of these items.

You stand guard further into the night. All is quiet.
In the very early hours, Delroya returns with a few well-built laborers (stevedores!). They load several crates onto wagons, and hurry off into the night. "These few items need to be destroyed before the Aspis Consortium can turn them to their evil ends," she explains. "Thank you for buying me enough time to get this transport arranged. The worst of these crates will be destroyed. You have my word on that. A few may find their way to the Pathfinder Society as thanks for your assistance."
Delroya eyes the warehouse. "Huh. You managed not to burn the place down. Perhaps the Pathfinders' reputation for wanton destruction is overstated. Thanks for not making life more difficult here. Kortos still has a strong hold in this city, and we don't want to be on their bad side."
"Did you need to use the letter from Lord Arvis? No? Good. He'll be happy to hear that."
"Do you have any final questions before we part?"
—
When you return, Ambrus Valsin personally congratulates you on the successful mission, stating that you've dealt a major blow to the Aspis Consortium’s operations on the Isle of Kortos, and prevented a great deal of suffering from spreading across the Inner Sea region. "I've heard from several sources, including Lors Avid, regarding your discretion. You are to be commended. "
That's it!
