Darn just read the description for Speak with Dead again and it says that it will not work on a corpse that been turned into an undead creature.
Megan, before I try casting this spell I'll let you decide if I can cast it after we have caused them to cease being undead.
In the mean time, Calinder will just examine the now defeated zombies for any clues to who they were.
Megan Robertson |
You are not completely certain if it will work or not, but it's probably worth a try. What did your instructor say...? 'Know that to speak with the deceased, it is necessary that they be devoid of the taint of undeath' - well, they are not undead any more, that's for certain!
Barnabus |
I thought that line prevents you from compelling an undead to answer questions, while in that state of being undead....
Lich: "You can never destroy me!"
Cal: casts speak with dead
"Where is your phylactery?"
Lich fails save and the spell is abused!
Having the spell work after the threat is slain is not so abusive. Hard to tell for certain from the spell.....

You were right - here's the post: Gorguk's plan through those hexes
I will update the map and send it to our fair DM.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone.
I have to travel for my new job at the beginning of the week. Hopefully I'll have internet access so I can post, but if you don't hear from me, I'll just be assisting Gorguk.
And as Gorguk said, just need to bury some bodies and then we can continue.
Calinder Surital |
Yes, I am very thankful for the new job, and thank you for congratulating me.
I just wish I could do more to find a new job for my co-worker that is also being let go. Hopefully, now that I have left, it will give him more time to find a new job.
And congratulations and god luck on the interview Megan. I learned this year that just getting an interview is a great accomplishment. Job hunting has certainly changed in the last ten years and it was a bit of a steep learning curve, at least for me that is.
I'll keep my fingers crossed and I'll be sending good vibes your way, and hopefully we'll be hearing soon that you are newly employed.
Calinder Surital |
I'm back from my new employee orientation in Long Beach, and now I'm trying to settle into the new job. Brain was pretty much mush after today, and formal job specific training starts tomorrow.
Megan, good luck with the interview, and we'll just sit tight and cheer ya on while we wait.

My apologies for the lack of activity lately. The situation with my grandmother has taken a turn for the worse. Between her stroke, renal disease, and now pneumonia, things aren't looking very good.
I'm not backing out of the pbp. If anything, I need the outlet now more than ever. It's more along the lines that I'll be posting less often as the situation continues.

Oleg's is within the planned territory of this kingdom, I believe, so I don't think there would be any argument with that idea.
I think Oleg's is a natural point of contact with Brevoy/Rostland, but I'm not sure about it as a base - that might be an unwelcome intrusion for Oleg and Svetlana.
I think the way to approach this is to ask what are the characteristics we need to see in our base?
Gorguk |
I picture Oleg and svetlana as pioneers in the wilderness. Not as people starting a community of their own. Thus I am thinking staglord's fort for defense and central location or Erastil's temple for us religious types. Good luck Lothar with the traveling dignitary.

I concur with Gorguk and Rhasa in that Oleg's trading post shouldn't form the foundation of a base. With that said, I do think that Oleg should play a much bigger role in what the Wardens do from this point on. We have to consider that he is as much a go between for us and those already in the region. He is a known commodity where as we're still in the process of establishing ourselves. And we as a group wouldn't be able to do that as easily without his help.
If establishing a community is an inevitable process, then looking to Oleg as a civic leader will be an inevitable outcome as well. Especially when he already is one in this wilderness. All we'd be doing is making it official. And its not like he'd have to give up his business; indeed it would be to our benefit for him to continue running the trading post (I don't think he wouldn't trust anyone else to do it in his absence).
Gorguk |
Looking at the roles in the kingdom guide, we could have Oleg be our treasurer and Svetlana be our diplomat as they are the people that everyone will see traveling into the new area. This way they have say and can keep their area sepae yet still be instrumental in the goings around them.

Congratulations!
Gobsmacked? British turns of phrase always fascinate me... Gob = head, right?
Have fun, Rhasa....
I've been undergoing a move. With my grandmother deceased, my mother had been hard-pressed to keep the house that she had been living in. Since my wife and I had been the only ones to really look after her, we were given the opportunity to settle in. Never realized how much stuff we had accumulated over the years (we moved fully on New Year's and we're still figuring out where to put things).
Megan Robertson |
Ah, two nations separated by a common language!
Gob = mouth, the expression literally means 'hit in the mouth' but is normally used to refer to those times when you feel your mouth falling open in astonishment, when you literally gawp at what you are hearing or seeing...

Just realized it's been a month since I last posted. I'm still here and I've been following along. I'm just really busy with the new job. It's been great so far but at times has been completely overwhelming. In fact, I'm working from home this evening.
Calinder is of course still just puttering around the fort.
Megan Robertson |
Glad to hear it is going well, Calinder... but don't overdo it. The aim is a balanced life of which work is just a part.
Just had a call from my Sunday School President: he will be teaching this week and next, but wants me to take the one after that as he will be away on business. Eeek!
Calinder Surital |
You'll do fine, just start preparing now, don't wait until the last minute. The most important lesson I have learned from all the classes I have taught at church is that the more you get the class involved in a discussion about the subject you are teaching, the easier it is to teach.
I dislike nothing more than standing in front of a class that will not participate, so I end up just standing there lecturing. Of course I'm not comfortable standing in front of a group of people to start with so when things don't go as I'd like it to, then it's so much worse.
You were teaching before if I remember right. It's much the same, just a bigger class and a slightly different subject. Anyway, good luck.
Also, the church has some good materials for learning how to teach and lots of great teaching aides. Talk to your Sunday School President and the librarians in your ward or stake, they can help you out.

I have received a gift horse and, rather than looking it in the mouth, I'm going to go for a ride. I will be far from home and computer for the next ten days or so. Please bot Rhasadilara in my absence.
Talk to you soon!
The gift horse in question was a ticket to a Caribbean cruise on the Carnival Magic. We had several days at sea and stopped at Montego Bay (Jamaica), Georgetown (Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands), and Cozumel (Mexico). We got to snorkel out to a shipwreck and hike to (and climb up!) a Mayan pyramid.
I know some of you are much more traveled than I am, so this might not sound like a big deal for you, but this was an absolutely amazing experience for someone that had never even been to the seashore. It's going to be very hard to return to reality...
