Lady Isabel Ferrari |
Looking around at the pandemonium, "I'm sure we can figure something out?! Shoo! Shoo, get out of here!" Making shooing gestures to the small creatures.
Boon Sai Hong |
"Err... I'm really just a warrior with a quarterstaff. I only have any affinity with this one monkey."
Brooaka 'Duskglider' |
Brooaka had not enlisted when the Alkenstar faced the armies of Ruthazek and his charau-ka back in 4690, but he hears the stories of the veterans, and the general disdain for the monkey-like beings. Not having gone through them personally, however, he loathes to attack what appears to be just harmless monkeying around. He does look in concern at the distress the monkeys are causing the Baron.
"Perhaps we can lure them away with food?" He takes some of the food the porters are offering to the macaques, and attempts to tempt them away from the camp.
Boon Sai Hong |
"Well, could you tell your monkey to tell them to lay off? Before they tear up our camp?"
"Not really. Po Po kinda follows me around and helps me out occasionally, but he doesn't listen to me. I don't think he actually understands what I say."
Familiars don't get the ability to speak with their master or others of their kind for a few more levels.
"Luring them with food sounds good. I know what Po Po likes to eat, so we can pick out the same stuff and lead them away from camp."
Boon steal some grub from the porters and tries to lure the monkeys away.
I don't have wild empathy (again, not that kind of druid), or any other social skills. I'm considering this just an assist to try to get a circumstance bonus for providing them with food that appeals to monkeys. Someone else can lead on the roll.
Hamith |
Hamith wakes groggily, later in the day than most everyone else. He is about to draw his sword at the commotion when he hears the others talking. He says to Brooaka. "Lure them with food; that's a good idea. I'll help any way I can."
Charisma: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23 Geez, en fuego.
Boon Sai Hong |
Not sure if just providing information on what my familiar eats would be good enough for a circumstance bonus on that. That's probably all the assist I can handle, but I'll roll charisma to aid another, too, just in case.
Boon charisma: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (10) - 2 = 8
Po Po charisma: 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (1) - 3 = -2
Boon tries to help Hamith with the monkey herding, mostly just advising on what types of foods he knows Po Po likes, since he's no good at actually dealing with them.
Through their empathic link, Po Po seems to get the idea of what we're trying to do, and also attempts to help, but he ends up antagonizing one of the monkeys instead. Boon has to stop him before he flings poo at the outside monkeys.
Worst. Charisma check. Ever.
Hamith |
"Because,"Hamith says while he scatters bits of food along a trail, "The hunt has bagged several creatures so far. We will not want for food for a long time. The longer we take to deliberate, the more damage they will cause."
Lady Isabel Ferrari |
Lady Isabel will try to help shoo the creatures as well with a Charisma check.

Brooaka 'Duskglider' |
Brooaka swiftly climbs up a tree at the edge of the camp with his wide grasping hands and feet. On the branches, he calls out to the monkeys, waving the dried fruits in his hands to tempt them away from the camp.
charisma, aid: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (15) - 2 = 13
GM Turmoil |
Despite the fact that Po Po throws some poo at the other monkeys, they seem to relax in Hamith's presence, as if he has a calming effect on them. Once given some bits of food, it is obvious that was all they wanted, and they are fairly easily led away from the camp. The porters seem quite happy with you for not harming the monkeys, and the Baron is pleased as well."I don't know how you managed that but I thank you. If not for you, I surely would have started firing blindly at those blasted creatures."
Following breakfast and the simian disturbance, the hunting party head off into the jungle for the day's hunt. For most of the morning, they follow the main trail that winds through the trees. All of a sudden, the old elephant panics and begins stamping about wildly, threatening to shake the howdah off its back. You see some of the porters run ahead, and where they begin to surround a large snake, that just misses striking one of the porters. Several hissing sounds are also coming from the bushes right next to the elephant. The Count, holding on for dear life, begins shouting at you. "Help us! Please, get this animal under control or we will all be thrown! You must figure a way to calm it down." The Baron interrupts him however, "Ignore that buffoon! No we will be fine, help the porters! I cannot afford to lose any of them."

Brooaka looks up at the Baron with concern, fearful for his life. But he knows the General enough that he is more concerned about the lives of his followers than his own, and so he turns his attention to the big snake. purple?
"Get out of the way!" he shouts at the porters. Brooaka moves closer towards the giant snake, raises his musket and aims down the turret towards the serpent. A loud *BLAM* explodes across the whole jungle as a metal bullet flies towards the beast.

"I'll get the big snake! The rest of you take care of the little ones and calm the elephant down!"
Boon casts Shillelagh, and rushes forward towards the large snake.
Does the elephant still count as an ally, so I can move through its square? I'm moving towards the big snake, it's just a matter of how quickly I can get there. I moved on the map based on treating it as an ally. If I can't do that, then I'm going around it, and don't get as far.
Jivan |
I don't know a thing about calming elephants, but those other snakes can't be helping matters. A cloud of silvery threads flash into being around the Vudrani. A tendril of aether slides into his belt pouch, extracts a copper piece, and hurls it at the yellow snake with a sharp crack.

Accidentally jumped the gun and posted before the little snakes, but deleted it, thinking it would keep my roll (haven't played PBP in a long while). Same post, but my attack roll above was a 6 instead of 18, probably missing.
GM Turmoil |
I really thought you were joking about throwing coppers, that's awesome.
Using his telepathic powers, Jivan flings a copper piece at one of the baby snakes with enough power that he knocks the head clean off. Boon rushes towards the larger cobra, enchanting his staff on the way, while Brooaka fires a musket ball that strikes it in the side. The nest of small vipers all strike out at the elephant, and while one manages to sink it's tiny fangs in, doesn't actually harm the great beast.

Po Po the Monkey |
Po Po shrieks a lot like a typical monkey while riding on Boon's shoulder.
"OOH OOH AHH AAAHHH AAAHHH AAAHHH!!!"
Since Boon and Po Po are closer to the big red snake than anyone else in the party, I'll point out that Po Po has the Bodyguard feat (from the Protector archetype), and can use it to protect Boon as long as they're in the same square. If Boon is attacked, Po Po will make an aid another attack to boost Boon's AC as an attack of opportunity.
Aid Another to boost Armor Class: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
Aid Another to boost Armor Class: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7

He can do that three times per round (Combat Reflexes), so he'll use it each time that Boon is attacked, if necessary. Each roll of 10 or higher boosts Boon's AC by 2 against that individual attack.

Glomintar moves along the side of the elephant to get within range of the cobra, casting a spell to tie it to it's shadow. Boon tries to land a blow with his quarterstaff, but his skills don't seem to be as good as he boasts. One of the smaller vipers strikes out at Hamith, sinking its tiny fangs into the flesh of his arm, which immediately starts to burn. He swings his sword wildly at it in anger, but only strikes the ground. The elephant continues to stomp the ground in fear, with the Count and Baron just barely holding on.

Well, if you'd listened to Boon, he would have told you that. Nobody would believe him, and there's a chance he would have been wrong, but he would have said it anyway. LOL
GM Turmoil |
Boon's quarterstaff strikes the cobra right in the skull, and with a loud crack, the snake goes limp on the ground. The remaining baby snakes slither away into the dense jungle, sensing their paragon killed.
Out of combat!
Count Matsanda seems obviously shaken after the ordeal, pacing back and forth on the jungle path as he regains his composure. "I was not prepared for that. I wish you all would have calmed that elephant sooner, but I thank you for helping eventually. I think perhaps you should scout the trail ahead as we continue, to help prevent this in the future."
All the Baron can do is shake his head at his son-in-laws behavior. "I knew this would be too much for him, but hopefully this adventure will yet make him into a man. I thank you for protecting the porters, without them, this hunt would be all the more difficult, not to mention expensive. I believe we are close to where I had my encounter with the tiger, so let us make haste."
A few hours after their encounter with the snake, the hunting party reachs a place where a small stream crosses the trail. Baron Rudyahm explains that this is the stream he and his friends were following when the tiger ambushed them 5 years ago, and thus this is where they should break off from the trail to find the tiger’s territory. Count Matsanda, still not right after the morning's events, declines to accompany you for this hunt. He and the porters take the elephant half a day farther down the trail to a hunting lodge outpost, where they can wait in safety for the Baron to finish his hunt.
There's a lot more to post and I should have more time later today.
Boon Sai Hong |

Boon perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Po Po perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21
Po Po tenses up sitting on Boon's shoulder. He puts one hand on top of Boon's head and looks around in all directions, but the monkey is completely quiet. When Boon turns to look at him, Po Po is sitting up straight, looking into the surrounding trees, as if trying to spot something.
"Wait! I think Po Po may have seen something."Boon holds up a hand for the others.
"What is it, Po Po?" Boon whispers to the monnkey, but Po Po just continues to scan the area, not pointing at anything specific.
After waiting a few seconds, Boon tells the others quietly, "He's definitely uneasy, but I don't think he spotted anything specific. He'd be pointing and shouting if he had."
Hamith |
Hamith says to Boon after the battle, "Well it seems you were right in boasting about the quarterstaff my friend. It is a mighty weapon in the right hands. Well struck!" He claps him on the shoulder and then goes about his business.
I don't think Hamith got hurt. @GM Turmoil: Did the baby snake do damage to him in addition to poison?

Brooaka whispers just loudly enough for the party. "Yes, Boon. Your monkey is not wrong. I do sense someone, or something, watching us. He, or it, is good though. I can't quite pinpoint it. Be on your guard." He loads his musket, while continually glaring at the area around.
