GM Blood |
Standing in front of the portal (Of which the two archons are now), you think you could still swing and hit it, although it would be difficult still to hit it Cover and 50% miss chance. Also since you would be swinging through the portal, it is likely you would also be hitting the portal itself. (with hardness and everything added it)
Kelkzar Redjaw |
"We could definitely try magical and divine attacks before physical ones, if you and Rauno want to see if you can affect it through the portal. I could make us all invisible if we eventually need to try to pass through the portal."
Trevor the Yellow |
"Very well then." says Trevor, though he looks more ready to charge than to wait.
GM Blood |
They cannot move past the creature, so they each try an overrun to pass the creature and fail. One of the archons takes a hit, but suffers no wounds. The undead creature lives in the portal and "blocks" that space. You can have them move out of the way if you desire or else save that for next round
AoO: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (7) + 19 = 26
Damage: 1d4 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
Overun Archon #1: 1d20 - 4 ⇒ (10) - 4 = 6 Nat 20 needed to succeed
Overun Archon #2: 1d20 - 4 ⇒ (2) - 4 = -2 Nat 20 needed to succeed
Rowena up unless she also delays
Knowledge (Arcana): 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (14) + 20 = 34
GM Blood |
Assuming Rowena will delay as well...
Make up damage that I missed rolling the first time through
Sneak Attack Damage vs #1: 5d6 ⇒ (3, 6, 4, 1, 5) = 19
Sneak Attack Damage vs #2: 5d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 2, 5, 2) = 15
Both Archons were actually killed approaching the portal via AoO with sneak attack included. However you know this thing is there in the "gateway" and cannot be passed normally. It also is not coming out of the portal on its turn.
Trevor the Yellow |
Trevor uses his power to determine if the creature is evil.
Trevor the Yellow |
"Well, looks like we need to get through it... May the Inheritor guide my wrath!" says Trevor as he charges the portal with his fauchard extended to strike at the opening.
Smite Evil, Charge, PA, FF: 1d20 + 13 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 13 + 4 + 2 = 251d10 + 21 + 20 ⇒ (1) + 21 + 20 = 42
Quintus of Taldor |
Quintus brandishes his plain wooden ankh and calls on Sarenrae's power.
Channel energy to harm undead, DC 17 Will save for half damage, ignore channel resistance: 5d6 + 10 ⇒ (1, 6, 4, 4, 1) + 10 = 26
Channel energy, rerolling the 1s: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 4) = 8
Total channel damage: 32 points
GM Blood |
Quintus channels and a scream comes out of the portal as it burns its flesh.
Will Save: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (2) + 12 = 14 DC 17
Trevor charges the portal but misses, not ever having fought a creature in a magical portal before. However, he learns from his attack that the chance to hit the creature will increase if he was actually at the portal instead of hanging back farther with his longer weapon. However, unless the creature come out he won't be able to get you either.
Trevor the Yellow |
"You need to get close to hit it..."
Kelkzar Redjaw |
Heeding Trevor's warning, Kelkzar charges to the portal with his falchion, risking the creature attacking him during his advance. When he reaches the portal, he swings through, trying to connect with his blade.
I'm removing haste and divine favor from the buffs and leaving up heroism.
Rage. Activate judgments of sacred justice and sacred smiting
Attack: 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (2) + 22 = 24
Miss chance: 1d100 ⇒ 83
Damage: 2d4 + 19 ⇒ (4, 2) + 19 = 25
AC at 17, 16 flat-footed
Rauno Redpath |
Seeing how elusive the creature is, Rauno uses a simple spell to try and wound it, hoping that the magic of the portal won't disrupt his spell. Five arcane darts launch from his extended finger in rapid succession, each striking into the portal before dissapating.
Magic Missiles, damage 5d4 + 5 ⇒ (3, 2, 4, 4, 3) + 5 = 21
GM Blood |
The missile fly true, hitting the undead creature precisely. Rowena moves up next to Quintus in case anything else attacks and leaving the space in front of Trevor open in case he chooses to close into melee.
Round 2
The creature attacks Kelkzar with 2 claws! It connects with both claws inflicting heaving damage and leave them in Kelkzar, holding him fast. Kelkzar, 56 damage and 2 Fort Saves and you are grappled!
Claw #1 vs Kelkzar: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (12) + 15 = 27
Damage: 1d4 + 15 ⇒ (3) + 15 = 18
Claw #2 vs Kelkzar: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (9) + 15 = 24
Damage: 1d4 + 15 ⇒ (3) + 15 = 18
Rake if Both claws hit: 2d4 + 15 ⇒ (4, 1) + 15 = 20
Grab (Grapple): 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (18) + 19 = 37
Trevor the Yellow |
Trevor drops his fauchard and unlashes the flail at his side, conjuring Iomedae's Grace through the weapon.
Drop weapon, draw flail as move, Divine Bond (Disruption) on Flail.
"Hang in there Kelkzar!"
Welcome back DM! It's nice to see this game continue!!!
Quintus of Taldor |
Quintus levels his scimitar at the portal, and the blade burns with holy fire. "Sarenrae! Smite this evil creature!"
Casting holy smite. I'm rolling damage as if it isn't an evil outsider, so let me know if I have to change that.
Spell damage; DC 18 Will save for half and to avoid being blinded for a round: 5d8 ⇒ (6, 5, 7, 6, 2) = 26
Kelkzar Redjaw |
Kelkzar hangs onto his falchion, but doesn't attack with it. Instead, he snaps down on the claw holding him and bites the creature on the hand.
Fort save 1: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (17) + 14 = 31
Fort save 2: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (20) + 14 = 34
Bite: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (4) + 20 = 24
Miss Chance?: 1d100 ⇒ 98
Damage: 1d4 + 18 ⇒ (3) + 18 = 21
hp 57/120
GM Blood |
And since you are base to base with it there is no miss chance
Kelkzar bites down on the creature holding him.
Quintus, it is undead, so you rolled correctly
Will Save: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (8) + 12 = 20 vs DC 18
The creature wails as the spell hits it, but being only partially out fo the portal shields him from the worst of it.
Trevor, are you 5' stepping closer at the end or waiting for your next turn?
Rauno Redpath |
Rauno casts Grease on Kelkzar to help him break free from the creature. Then, seeing that he is too deeply engaged in the melee to try and break free, he invokes another word of power to try and separate them (Liberating Command).
So Kelkzar gets a +10 circumstance bonus from grease and a +20 competence bonus from liberating command. Plus liberating command gives him an immediate free chance to break the grapple. The +10 will persist after this attempt if the creature tries to grab him again, but the +20 is only for this check.
Rowena Lordail |
Rowena moves up to L14 and attempts to grab this thing before Kelkzar shakes it loose.
Ki throw: 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (16) + 22 = 38
If it works, she'll try to throw it into L13.
Sorry, all, the new posts never showed up in my campaign tab.
GM Blood |
Kelkzar Escape Grapple: 1d20 + 12 + 10 + 20 ⇒ (9) + 12 + 10 + 20 = 51 vs 32
Kelkzar squirms out of the grapple the creature has him in before Rowena moves up, grabs the creature and flings it out of the portal. It lands on the ground around Kelkzar, Trevor and Rowena.
Round 3
Staying prone, the creature continues to try and feed on Kelkzar. Only one claw connects this time, preventing the creature from ripping open an extra wound. 16 Damage, no grapple
Claw #1 vs Kelkzar (prone): 1d20 + 15 - 4 ⇒ (14) + 15 - 4 = 25
Damage: 1d4 + 15 ⇒ (1) + 15 = 16
Claw #2 vs Kelkzar (prone): 1d20 + 15 - 4 ⇒ (4) + 15 - 4 = 15
Damage: 1d4 + 15 ⇒ (1) + 15 = 16
Grapple (Grab): 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (13) + 19 = 32 VS DC 36
Quintus of Taldor |
"Heaven's light will burn you!" Quintus again raises his sword as he steps closer to the fallen creature. Light blazes forth around the party. Nimbus of Light; equivalent to daylight, but also does 10 HP/round to undead.
Knowledge (Religion) check to identify: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (4) + 13 = 17
Trevor the Yellow |
I've just realized I need to put at least +1 on the flail, so I can't put disruption...
Trevor's flail burst in holy flames as he advances towards the portal. Without relent, he spins and pivots, hurling the chained ball of fire at the undead, pushed further by Iomedae's holy fury!
5-ffot step. Smite ignores DR.
Flail, +1 Flaming, Smite: 1d20 + 17 + 1 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 17 + 1 + 4 = 341d8 + 12 + 1 + 10 + 1d6 ⇒ (2) + 12 + 1 + 10 + (2) = 27
Flail, +1 Flaming, Smite: 1d20 + 9 + 1 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 9 + 1 + 4 = 301d8 + 12 + 1 + 10 + 1d6 ⇒ (4) + 12 + 1 + 10 + (6) = 33
Rowena Lordail |
Everybody that threatens M13 should get an AoO from Ro's Greater Trip feat. She also gets a Vicious Stomp.
AoO GT: 1d20 + 16 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 16 + 1 = 21
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
AoO VS: 1d20 + 16 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 16 + 1 = 32
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Trevor the Yellow |
I used it prior to the pause. Paladins can't double dip!
Kelkzar Redjaw |
As Rowena trips the creature, Kelkzar smashes his falchion down on it, then quickly follows with a couple more attacks at the now exposed foe.
Attack (AoO): 1d20 + 22 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 22 + 4 = 31 Hit, Extra +4 due to Paired Opportunists
Damage: 2d4 + 19 ⇒ (1, 2) + 19 = 22 Magic, Good, Adamantine, Slashing
Intimidate (Cornugon Smash): 1d20 + 25 ⇒ (3) + 25 = 28 Probably makes it shaken for at least one round

Kelkzar Redjaw |
And not using bane or judgement of sacred destruction. As for dominate person. +10 Will when not raging, +12 when raging. Quintus usually keeps a couple Pro: Evils available. Should we look into more protection? Its going to keep getting higher.
