Generally speaking, 6 is the magic number for me around a table. I've found that the size for pbp games matters a bit less. I've got a game with 5-6 active players that keeps me on my toes and a game with 7 not so active players that I'm getting frustrated with trying to keep moving. My tabletop game has shrunk to 2 players on Roll20 and its been a blast just roleplaying with them. Motivation of the players to be active is what really makes or breaks the game for me, which in turn makes me more motivated. It's a cyclical thing. Diverging a bit there...

On the question of numbers, then let's aim for 2-3 really good submissions. I'll have you all give input on the players that you want in the game. They'll be your party members, afterall.

This game was really close to my style in the first place, so that's why I applied to it. I'm asking less for my sake and more to give the existing players options and a say how we continue from here, so please don't think I'm interesting in forcing anything on anyone. :)

How many people are you planning to recruit? Ninja'ed by the DM.
Should we change our characters to 25 point buy + 1trait?

I am not a big fan of psionics. It usually breaks my immersion in the fantasy setting a little bit and I dont know nothing about the rules of it. But if you guys want to run with it its fine by me, its not a deal breaker.

The vancian system of spellcasting has not always been my favorite. I tend to like point-based systems more. However, I don't want to run anything that's immersion breaking for people. That's why I wanted input. As for point buy and traits, I'm just wondering if everyone wants to do something a bit higher powered or not. I generally run games in the 20-25 point buy region. Just proferred as an option.

I honestly cant remember last time that I did a character that was not 20 point buy. It seems to be the standart this days.

Actually I just did. In my tabletop game we are running a party of 8 through RotRL. The DM was worried that with this many people the AP would be a cakewalk and he did not want to twink the whole think. So we rolled 15 point buy characters. It kind of worked.

My only concern with not going standart is that its said the APs are designed for 20 point buy characters. More powerfull characters would make things too easy. I am not sure if this is actually the case, its just something I hear a lot in this boards.

I'm comfortable with 20 pts. With 6 players, I don't think we need 25 pt builds, but that's just me.

I wouldn't mind psionics--of course, said psionic character would be constantly barraged by Jove's impertinent questions about his ability. Are you sure that's not magic? It looks a lot like magic. I'm pretty sure that's magic. Just a really weird magic. Psionic... does that mean you can read minds? Can you tell what I'm thinking right now? Can you tell the future? Where is your Harrow deck? Are you going to tell me to realize the truth there is no spoon? Why are you pointing at me? Is that lightning? Are you a Sith? (apparently, Jove has had a lot of coffee and has broken the fourth wall ;-)

Heh. Alright, it sounds like the rules as were is what I'm getting.

I played a live game with people using psionics. It got really distracting and even a bit....I guess losing immersion is a good way to put it. Ultimately as a result, I don't like psionics....at all...to the point where I would drop out if one entered. Sorry to be so critical but they steal a good majority of the fun away from the game. So please, if it can be helped, no psionics. I also would rather 20 point buy as well. That's what I built for. It seems suitable as in games where it is twenty five, players tend to destroy challenges. It is a bit TOO easy.

So, yeah, the rules as they were are fine.

Alright, I'm putting up the Recruitment thread.

Shadow Lodge

Yay.

On a side note, maybe its worth mentioning on the recruitment thread that we are in the middle of book one of the AP.

Bard 1, HP 8/9, NL-HP 0/9, AC 12, Touch 12, Flat 12, F +1, R +4, W +2 Init +2, Perc +4

Very glad to see you guys will carry on. I'm very sorry guys. All the best.

I really enjoyed this group!

Shade Psion 18

Glad to hear it Faol and good luck.

I've just created a wholesale new campaign to house it in.

Here's the link to the discussion thread: Skull & Shackles Discussion Thread

Take a look into the recruitment thread and give input about what you're thinking on the proposed characters, would ya'? I'm gonna let it run over the weekend and see what we get.

Bones Oracle 3, HP 26/26, CMD 16, AC 18 T11 F17, F +2 R +2 W +3, Init +3, Perc +4

I gave just a quick first glance, interesting choices. I will have a more carefull look later on tonight and send a pm with thoughts.

But 2 things ocurred to me: First I saw a Paladin. While no one of us is actually evil we are all scoundrels to the core AND I am a necromancer... Paladins are a bad ideia for this party. Also the players guide to the AP caution players and GMs against using them and LG aligmnent for this campaign.

Second there s also another SS recruitment on the boards. If you feel there are not enough quality submissions DM Shade, we will probably get a good number of extra ones when that recruitment closes.

I am all fired up to be captain, even to getting behind the loss of my hand and stuff.

I wanted to know the exact timeline. Like is this just as the Man's promise left the Wormwood?

Also, are the impressions I left still intact?

I am good friends with Barefoot Samms and Fishguts the cook.
Also, I fought and beat up Bugbear in hand to hand. I won that fight and earned a good reputation. I am not sure the reputation I would have for shooting Harrnigan and then stepping forward and confessing it to him.

Development wise, it is at this point within Gan's character to try and be captain but I need to know if the crew would back it up.

Also, how do the other players and Gm feel Gan wanting to be Captain of the man's promise?

Bones Oracle 3, HP 26/26, CMD 16, AC 18 T11 F17, F +2 R +2 W +3, Init +3, Perc +4

Gan you nut job. You are the craziest misfit of our merry crew and you want to be captain? CAPTAIN?!
Ancestors what over us! Plz dont get us all killed!

J/k aside I am fine with it. I built Four Skulls to be power hungry and manipulative but he does not crave the captain chair. He wants to be one of the officers, first mate if the oportunity arrises.

In truth he does not belive people will follow him once the dead starts to arrise. And the dead always do around him. He have seen the rage and panic in too many former friend's eyes to risk a high profile position like commander.

EDIT: I just realised the new game thread is on. Will repost over there.

@DM Faol: Since we are moving to a new thread would you mind putting this one on the inactive status? It was a pleasure to play with you too, good luck with everything.
