Zara Yllés |
Zara waits at the bottom for the sneaky duo to return, hoping that they haven't awoken any of the lookouts in the tower. 'Though goblins may not be the most diligent, surely the person in charge would've assigned someone competent... then again surely good lookouts would've seen the scene outside. But maybe not from this angle.' She second guesses herself, all the while wondering what's happening with Silva & Nicea.

Nicea, Silva, & Damieka:
Inside the room you see:
Six poorly constructed bunk beds, little more
than hammocks slung from rickety frames, stand
along the walls of this room. Each is heaped with a
vermin-infested blanket and a lump of straw that
serves as a frustrating pillow.
All but one has a goblin sleeping. One blearily glances at the door and says something irritated in Goblin then rolls over and starts snoring again. None seem to really be paying any true wakeful attention to the goblin slaying woman in the doorway.
Spirit of Pinvendor |
Did Doorway Goblin drop dead?
For some reason I thought I had already addressed it.
The goblin in the doorway before Nicea stands quivering after the strike, a soft click-click coming from its throat. Then after a couple of brief seconds, the goblin's torso falls forward at Nicea's feet while his waist and legs fall back having been bisected cleanly at a 30 degree angle. The smell of blood is muted compared to that of the spilled waste.
Not bothering with bleed-out since I'm pretty sure Nicea would just coup de grâce him anyway. :P
Spirit of Pinvendor |
Nicea, Silva, & Damieka:
The goblins continue to snore in their bunks. The room smells terrible.
Samara, Davben, & Zara:
Across the way, you can see another watchtower on the eastern side. Unlike the pair that was up here, the other tower seems to have a more alert pair though they seem to be playing some sort of game with small items not visible at this distance.
Silva Jural |
"Awww, they look so cute when they're sleeping," Silva whispers in a mocking tone. The sorcerer exchanges his wand for his dagger, which has not exactly seen much use. He looks down at it with a frown. "Guess we have to kill them. Can't be having them screaming their heads off."
Nicea Argote |
Hey, where'd my post go?
Nicea waves Dameika and Silva to one of the goblins each and mimes stabbing as if with a dagger.
She herself goes to one of the little bunks and makes aim with her scythe. She holds up three fingers, then puts one down at a time at measured intervals, mouthing three… two… one… GO!.
Scythe coup de grace on the gobbo at 6 o'clock. Autohit, autocrit.
Scythe crit dmg, normal: 8d4 + 16 ⇒ (4, 2, 4, 3, 4, 3, 2, 2) + 16 = 40
Fort save 10+40 =50 to not die. Nicea stays near the doorway to block their exit.
Silva Jural |
This is gonna get messy, Silva thinks, preemptively rolling up his sleeves as Nicea starts her countdown. The sorcerer aims the tip of his dagger over one of the goblins' closed eyes, trying to get the angle just right. Once the captain gives the circle, Silva shoves the dagger into the goblin's skull as hard as he can.
Dagger Coup de Grace: 2d4 - 2 ⇒ (2, 3) - 2 = 3 Amazing!
Spirit of Pinvendor |
I feel like I should rule against being able to use a scythe against an opponent in a bunk bed considering the second bed, but...whatever. :P
Nicea stabs the scythe's blade with precision directly into the small sleeping goblin's heart killing it instantly.
Silva attempts to emulate the maneuver...drumroll
Fort Save DC 13: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
And succeeds!
Perception: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (3) - 1 = 2
Perception: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (14) - 1 = 13
The last two goblins continue to snore away despite the dying goblins' gurglings and the wet sounds of steel withdrawn from flesh and bone.
Both Nicea and Silva acquire more blood and fluid based dye on their clothing.
Zara Yllés |
Zara sneaks up the ladder to look into the goblin watchtower where Davben and Samara are, wrinkling her nose at the acrid vinegar smell mingled with the smell of blood. "Let's go to the others? The went west.... if you've finished here?" her voice drifts on the sea breeze.
Silva Jural |
"Ewww..." Silva looks down at his blood-splattered robe, aghast. He nods to Nicea, indicating that he is ready to move on to the next one. Very reluctantly, he prepares to repeat the grisly dead, waiting for the captain's signal.
Dagger Coup de Grace: 2d4 - 2 ⇒ (4, 3) - 2 = 5
Samara Nolien |
Samara shrugs and says to Davben, "Okay." She glances around the room full of pickles quickly and says to Zara, "I am finished here. That is a thing that I am."
She starts back towards the trap door so that they can go join the others. They're surely getting into trouble after so long left to their devices.
Spirit of Pinvendor |
Fort Save v. DC 15: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (14) - 1 = 13
Both goblins lives end as swiftly as their comrades.
The goblin barracks have been purged with steel and blood. Now the dirty blankets and straw are filled with corpses turning the room from a place of sleeping sanctuary into a grisly murder scene. The blood and viscera have not improved the pungent smell of goblin sweat and filth already filling the room.
In fact, the room nows smells worse and the odors of bodily fluids, and gasses are almost dizzying.
Nicea Argote |
Nicea gazes disconsolately around the bunk room. "That was too easy. And too painless for them. And there's probably not even any loot in here."
She pokes around with the tip of her scythe, trying to find something gleaming.
Perception(search): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
Silva Jural |
Silva gestures lazily with his free hand, causing the blood on his dagger, arms and robe to just slough off and drip to the ground. Satisfied with his handiwork, he then sheathes his blade - he'd leave the stabbing to the lieutenant next time.
"Eh, these are just the small fry. I'm sure someone here has something worth a damn."
Spirit of Pinvendor |
Nicea locates:
- leather armor (small) x 6
- light wooden shield (small) x 6
- short sword (small) x 6
- short bow (small) x 6
- quiver of 20 arrows x 6
- Assorted other treasure and trinkets which may be valuable to goblins but probably not much to anyone else. Their approximate value to a merchant or collector is probably (Appraise skill check roll / 2) silver & (Appraise skill check roll) copper pieces
What's next, gang?
Zara Yllés |
Zara awaits for the pair to come down from the nest, before leading them to the door that Nicea nipped through. Seeing the lady covered in arterial blood, as well as the precise spray on Silva. "Are you alright?" she queries in a soft voice, realising the door to the right probably leads to another guard-tower.
"I believe, that's a guard tower.... occupied. Should we go through the double doors instead?" The dancer whispers softly, swaying gently to try and dry off.
Nicea Argote |
"Good to see you three. I was afraid you'd get into trouble if left to your own devices for very long. Anything to report, lieutenant? Zara, I think we have to take out the guards in the tower. We can't leave them behind us. If they figure out we're here, they will open the gates to the nasties outside. We make sure the gates are barred, then take out the tower guards. Towers are pretty defensible, too. We can sit up there with bows, pick off goblins on the ground, and defend the stairwells." Nicea smiles at the thought of a pleasant afternoon's amusement, but the smile suddenly leaves her face. "Until they bring torches, that is. Bar the gates, kill the guards, then we hit the double doors. Does that sound good, Lieutenant?" She fixes the shy elf with a piercing look.
Nicea Argote |
"Dandy. I'm gonna go be sure the gates are barred. You guys - you know, the quiet types - tiptoe up the guard tower stairs and take out the gobbos there. If they give you any trouble, run down and I'll meet them at the bottom. I'm gonna stand in the hallway and be sure nobody comes up your backside. That's never pleasant if you're not ready for it."
Nicea trots to the gates to be certain they are secured, then takes up a guard position in the hallway to the tower.
Placed Nicea on the map as well as I could. She's facing west while anyone who wants to be sneaky goes east and up into the tower.
Davben Wyvernjack |
"Well seems a good a plan as any, shall we head over and deal with the goblins we saw?" Davben asks Samara as Nicea explains her plan and heads off. "We only saw a couple goblins in the other tower, if we move quickly it is unlikely they will know what hit them. We'll head up if you're ready."
Spirit of Pinvendor |
Davben's Stealth: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19
The rogue and monk would-be-gobbo-assassins begin climbing the rickety wood stairs to the eastern watchtower's guard station.
Goblin Guard Perception: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (12) - 1 = 11
Goblin Guard Perception: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (5) - 1 = 4
Astoundingly, the trapdoor leading up doesn't make a sound when Samara carefully opens it far enough to check the surroundings and ultimately climb out. She and Davben manage to slip into position behind the two card playing goblins. They appear to have some rather battered Harrow cards and are playing some kind of game.
Surprise round attacks, please.
Samara Nolien |
As before, Samara cautiously positions herself and takes a stab at the distracted goblin before her. The timid elf tries to slide her blade right into the goblin's heart so that it dies quietly and near instantly.

critical damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Should both she and Davben be successful, she wordlessly picks up the scattered harrow cards for her personal treasure collection.
Davben Wyvernjack |
Davben moves along with Samara, positioning himself to attack the other card playing gobbo. When he sees Samara start to make her move he strikes at the base of the goblin's neck also hoping to silence it quickly.
Poker Punch: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
Damage: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (2, 2) + 3 = 7
Spirit of Pinvendor |
Just as one would expect of a budding assassin treasure hunter, Samara's blade strikes true ending the life of her target with ruthless proficiency. The goblin's body stiffens and then falls slack in less than a second.
Davben's target isn't quite as lucky but ends up in no better position. The stunning blow to the neck severs the goblin's spinal cord and breaks its neck, after which it slumps onto the table. It watches in horror as life leaves its companion's eyes. Helpless, it lingers for a moment before the shock sets in, and it, too, passes on to meet its final judgement.
Watch towers are cleared; main entry is cleared; barracks are clear. Couple of unopened doors remain as well as the closed up room. What's your play gang?

Samara Nolien |
Samara wipes her rapier on the goblin's clothes and puts it back in the sheath. The elf checks to make sure that she has a full deck of cards before she slips them into her pouch. She comments absently to Davben, "These might be lucky," and starts taking a look around the place.
To indicate that she is well aware of the irony of her statement, she adds, "A painless death is lucky for goblins. That is a thing that it is."
Nicea Argote |
Nicea sighs, tired of waiting for the Stealth Squad to descend.
WIS check: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14
She opts not to yell up the stairs to see what is going on. "She's probably thinking goblins are easy to find and cheap to hire," she mutters in response to Silva.
Zara Yllés |
"So not like us?" Zara says wryly, waiting at the bottom of the ladder. "Here let me give you guys a bit of Sivanah's wisdom and we can go through that door." She points at the nearby door and gets ready to open it so the others can rush in.
Guidance on all, since it's hard mode. In the order, Nicea, Samara, Davben, Silva, Damieka. Which door we going through? The single door next to the dorm or the double doors?
Nicea Argote |
"Better wait to see if the Tower Team has any trouble before we go rushing in to another room," Nicea suggests, "Or not. I think we do the doors one at a time, starting with this little one." She indicates the door next to her.
Map doesn't have co-ordinates, but it's right next to Nicea.
Nicea Argote |
WIS: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
The wise course would be to wait until our tower friends rejoin the group and find out what happened up there. Nicea, however, get bored with nothing to do, so yes.
"Let's see what is in here." Nicea opens the door.
Davben Wyvernjack |
"Yes, a quick parting easy and quick, other goblins we find are likely to have a more brutal end." Davben agrees looking over the goblin bodies before moving over to see what he can spot from the lookout tower.
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28
"Finding anything useful?" He asks the elf as she searches the room.
Nicea Argote |
Nicea closes the door she just opened. "Something's down there. Want to finish this floor first, or head on down and take care of business?" she asks the others, shaking her scythe meaningfully on the word business. Gore still occasionally splats from the blade to the floor.
