Its my gf's birthday today and I expect the celebrations will continue until tomorrow. Don't be alarmed if I am a little scarce for a couple of days. Bot me if necessary.

I believe all our init rolls should be 1 lower due to being fatigued, DM. Not that it affects the actual initiative order, as far as I can tell.

Oops! Yes you are all fatigued thanks for being honest.

Please bot me for now, having major computer problems and may have to go through a lengthy formatting, moving all my files across and reinstallation.

Okay, thanks for the heads up...good luck getting that all fixed and I hope it wont keep you off the boards for long.

Managed to sort it without formatting (fingers crossed it stays sorted) so i'll be ready to take my next action.

Aaaaand thats a no. Now going through the painful process of transferring all my files onto disc/USB and reformatting/reinstalling my laptop. Fun fun fun.

That sucks...no worries I will DM PC you until you get it all fixed.

I have access to another laptop so i'll be ok to post, bot me if i'm too slow.

Well, Sophy gets to contribute nothing for the next ten rounds, and now she has another failure to beat herself up with. See you guys sometime next week. :P

Personally, i'm still shaking my head in disbelief that i'm level 4 without a masterwork weapon... Its certainly a novel experience. The player in me knows the Yeth Hounds have DR, which means Belril's sling is going to do almost bugger all to it.

I hope our complete lack of WBL is taken into account for our APL lol.

At least i'm better off than Joana :P.

And the party member who least has to worry about DR has just failed his save and is about to flee, screaming like a baby. :)

We are in a bit of sticky wicket right now, no doubt.

Well, the "good" news is that you're dropping your flail and leaving it behind for someone else to pick up and use. ;)

Ok... Reinstalled my OS, but the one disc that failed to burn with my data on it... All my gadgets and upgrades, as well as a good deal of my PbP folders. I feel physically ill... :(

Edit: And the main problem I reinstalled for still persists. I am very unhappy.

Dang, AK, how irreplaceable was it all? :(

Windows keeps bugging me about setting up about setting up a backup for my laptop; perhaps I ought to start paying attention to it. Although I do try to keep all my banking records and tax forms and personal creations on a flash drive, I've lost more than I care to remember to various computers dying over the years.

Well, the thing I was working on for Sargavan Saga for the past month or so in Maptools is gone... As are all my notes for pretty much of all my PbP's. And my Herolab character portfolios.

I backed up the files I needed before formatting the hard drive. One disc was somehow wiped of data.

Well, trying to look on the bright side, it's all stuff made up out of your own head so you can create it again. That can drive you crazy too, though: trying to get the details exactly like they were before and, no matter what you end up with, the feeling that it's all not quite as good as the original (even if no one will ever know except yourself). What a nightmare. :(

Just went and set up the 3 TB hard drive I bought last week on my network. I don't think I've produced 3 TB of material in my lifetime so I ought to be good for a while.

Okay, the yeth hounds are going to be a real problem here. I literally, don't think we can damage them. I've got one fire spell left that I can use other than plinking away at them with aicd. I'm sort of at a loss, lol...

Someone throw Ameiko over your shoulders and run. Seriously, she's what we came for. Take the AoOs, and if the dogs want to follow, maybe they'll catch up to a reunited party with the panicked people closer to ready to fight on a better battlefield than all these narrow corridors. (Of course, Kern or Victor would have been the obvious choices for carrying off the damsel in distress. Belril would keep knocking her head on the ground. Does Eponine have the Str for it?)

Would have been funny if Kern had already picked up Ameiko to carry her and then had to throw her on the ground and run when he got panicked. :D

LOL, that's what I was thinking when we first got attacked, but they cleverly came at us from both angles. Punks.

Maybe Wren could help her, but I don't see any carrying her in Wren's future.

We'd have been better off rushing them when Sophy first saw them, than cooping ourselves up and letting us get flanked.

I can damage the yeth hounds, but only with minor damage.

Well, Sophy makes no claim to being a tactical genius. ;P

I do find it amusing the curse of 'most of the party fails save while Belril saves and looks on in dismay' has become a tradition.

If he somehow survives, Belril is totally going to demand a transfer to a more competent party.

Sorry Gang, RL has been very hectic this weekend...and I am behind on a project due tomorrow. I will try and get something up soon.

No worries, buddy. We're still around. Well, Belril, Wren, and Eponine are still around. The rest of us decided we had more important matters to attend to. ;)

RPG Superstar 2008 Top 16

Hey GANG, Just want to give you all an update on things that will affect our game. Including this week I have four weeks left until the end of the semester and have a few large projects due. I may miss a few days posting, but will try to keep up as much as possible.

On the 21st we are taking a family vacation and I will not be posting between then and when we return on the 28th.

On the 29th I start an intense 10 week clinical program that includes working as a chaplain in the hospital. This is a full time 40+ hour work week with at lest one overnight one call shift each week. I plan to keep running the game through this time, but the game may move a little slower until the program ends.

Thanks for keeping up with the game and being patient at times when I have to put it on the back burner. I realy enjoy the group we have.

Reflex DC 18 for half.

Should have banked the damage you rolled here. ;P

That's always the way it goes on the damage, Joana!

Thanks for finding the cone.. I'm on the road and struggling this morning, lol.

Worth pointing out Victor dropped that +1 longsword somewhere in the corner behind Orik. Gives someone the opportunity to overcome DR if they can get their hands on it. Too large for Belril, unfortunately.

EDIT: Square P 21. Right next to one of those dogs right now, unfortunately. :P

RPG Superstar 2008 Top 16

Yes thanks for pointing out the cone template. For some reason MapTools makes the 15' go 2-4-2 and I was trusting that. Even if you did have to move up the spell is a burst type so the two walls in the cells give her cover since the spell wont go around corners.

Victor has a +1 sword? I don't even have a masterwork staff lol.

Belril could use the sword as a two handed weapon with a penalty but it wouldn't overcome their DR anyway.

Also, clearly I didn't put enough effort into Belril's internal monologue. Two solid attack rolls but pants damage.

Belril Leokas wrote:

I think it's the only out-of-the-ordinary weapon we've found.* Some mutant goblinoid under the Glassworks had it. Eponine says it was made by a famous elven weaponsmith.

I don't suppose anyone's made a Knowledge roll to even know what their DR is? I guess that should have been Sophy's contribution.... :P

Not that it really helps to know they have DR if we don't have the ability to overcome it anyway.

*I take it back. Brock got some kind of weird polearmy type of weapon that I think was masterwork off a statue under Sandpoint, but I presume he took it with him when he scarpered.

You have also found items on the goblin druid that might be helpful and nobody bothered to loot the bugbear lying dead up above.

Yup, although not to attack rolls.

I know what the DR is OOC but even if I wanted to metagame it I have no way of overcoming it anyway. At least with Rangers Focus I do damage even with pants damage rolls.

Edit: Respectfully, looting fallen enemies for their gear is so obvious I honestly didn't think we needed to declare it. PbP is slow enough without declaring every body searched.

Everyone certainly had plenty of time while Sophy was sitting with her eyes closed for 15 minutes.*

As far as remembering Inspire Courage, there's also the -1 to attack from being fatigued. Cancels out. :P

Only items I see that we identified from the goblin druid were healing potions (already used), potions of speak with animals, Small +1 leather, and potions of tree shape. Don't see how any of that is terribly useful to this fight.

*:
Wouldn't have mattered, though. If the bugbear had a magical weapon, it would almost certainly have been in Kern's hands and thus out of the fight before the dogs even arrived.

Under normal encounter circumstances where there is a definitive end to the action I would agree. If this was that case I am sure someone would have posted we want to search the bodies and I would have rolled into one post everything off every foe, not a body by body task with rolls each time or anything like that. This however was an unusual circumstance, the action was continuing, with foes running for reinforcements, Sophy taking the time to regain spells, and others searching for tunnels or secret doors as Wren tried to ID some of the loot already found. Time (in game) was a factor and we role-played that accordingly. OOC magic items do not over power the DR but the DR is not to high and one of the hounds is almost dead anyway, so I don't think you will have to worry to much about it.

True, but there are some items not ID yet, that someone could try to make work randomly that could help. The party has chosen to rush in based on role-play and that is awesome, but it comes with the downside of not being full prepared in the crunch sense of things. I still think your chances of survival are good, though I bet not in the way we typical think they might be. And the upside will be XP rewards for pressing on, and I have already given some boosts and helps because of Good role play and choosing to press on so I think it all balances out and has been pretty fair, if not more in the advantage of the PC's than you are aware. I am not a DM trying to kill off PC's I like for a good story to be told, but that doesn't always mean the party walks in kills a bunch of baddies and walks out with sackfuls of loot. Even Indian Jones gets captured, more than once.

Just stinks that half of us don't even get to be part of the action.

I'm getting really tired of variations on "Sophy flees and then runs back full of self-recrimination." This is, what, the fourth time in 4 levels? :P

Mid Morning Day 2 Total earned XP: 15,000

Yeah, I know...it is great to have stuff like that help define a character over the course of play, but you have had the low roll on the saves vs fear I think every time. These are the types of things I like to try and turn into positives, maybe we can develop a FEAT she can take based on her jumpy nerves or something.

Meh, I've run out of ways to roleplay that she continually fails and hates herself for it. I'm starting to strain my suspension of disbelief that she has the pluck to pick herself up, dust herself off, and get back on the horse ... AGAIN. I really don't need a custom feat to point out that she's pathetic and never actually gets to do anything in combat.

I've gotten really tired of all the crying and meekness, but every time I intend to let her take charge and gain confidence and actually accomplish something, she runs away screaming again, making a public fool of herself and giving herself another mental obstacle to overcome on the road to not being so darn annoying. Doesn't help that I don't enjoy the oracle mechanics. She might as well be a 3.5 cleric because she has to keep spending all her spells on cures. And there's nothing hiding in future levels that gives me any more enthusiasm; the lore oracle revelations are just awful. All she's good for is cure spells and Knowledge checks, which is boring and not going to change with leveling up or magic gear. She just gets better at being boring. :P

I do like that brain drain thingie that Sophy did earlier. That seemed to be a really cool revelation.

And if you need it, Wren can always yell at Sophy to keep her motivated, lol...

It's the only interesting revelation, and the guy you need to use it on is also the guy most likely to have a high Will save. Most of the rest are bonuses to Knowledge checks. There's one that lets you add your Cha bonus to AC and Reflex saves, which is handy but still boring; doesn't give her anything else to do, only makes her a little less likely to die while doing it.

Honestly, she's starting to feel like Adele: handy to whip out when you need a Knowledge check or Diplomacy roll, otherwise just standing around taking up space. I got so bored of her before she finally got killed. Although she was at least immune to fear, which would certainly come in handy in this thread. ;)

If something were to happen to Sophy, you need to bring in an anti Adele paladin, and just mash things for a while, Joana. That'll let you take out some aggression!

Man, that downcast avatar for Sophy made me feel bad! It is like she was about to break into tears becaue I forgot my will save! I was thinking "Don't cry! I'll go back and edit my post to add the will save!"

Mid Morning Day 2 Total earned XP: 15,000

I wasn't thinking a custom feat to show she's pathetic, I was thinking more like a feat that is a reaction to the fear but gives her some cool other ability.

Maybe she should multi class. "Hey mr/mrs NPC I am tired of being being meek and afraid can you toughen me up?". There are monks fighters and Paladins in town that could train you up A new and improved Sophy, who is an awsome character by the way. But if you are loosing the luster of her we should find a way to change her up or if that dosnt work change up the character. I want to be sure everyone is having fun playing the character they have.
