Dungeon Master

• Bofus attacks but cannot land a solid blow against the giant.
• Tirion attempts to spit acid but misses by a long shot!
• Trellara begins singing to inspire competence.

Round 3

• Inspired by the heavenly sound, Mantooth attacks with Magnimarana smoothly and with precision.

Magnimarana 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (9) + 17 = 26
Damage 1d10 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13

Magnimarana 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (15) + 12 = 27
Damage 1d10 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11

• Thordak hacks a quick blow to the legs of the Ettin and the giant falls to the ground like a chopped tree.

Male Gnome Sorcerer/9 - (HP: 49/49 - AC20;FF17;T18 - F+5;R+6;W+7 - Init+9 - Per+11)

Tirion looks at yet another dead giant.

The bigger they are, the harder they fall. . . . Lets get this place checked out and then get out of here.

Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20

Dungeon Master

There is little in this room other than a pile of furs on the floor along the eastern wall. It appears that the Ettin uses this place as a guard post and a quiet place to sleep.

There is a single door to the north, a single door to the south and a set of double doors to the west.

Rhest Town Hall Lower Level

I have moved you into this room. Please let me know if you wish to change your current location.

Bofus, you do not detect any traps of any sort. The doors look like they are used quite often.

Edvard's face remains grim as the group searches what remains for further threats. To Trellara he responds "We have killed here but soldiers... let us hope you are so generous when we have faced those that lead..."

This chamber is clean and well organized, despite its grim furnishings. Small barbed cages rest against the wall, not quite large enough to stand in and not quite wide enough to sit in. Several barrels of water are on the floor to the north, along with a bloodstained mop. A simple cot and a chair and desk round out the room's contents.

When you investigate the room to the south, you do not see any magical auras in the magical spectrum, but you do sense something. However, when you try to concentrate upon it, it seems to have disappeared.

When Bofus enters the room to the north, he is met by several javelins being thrown from three Blackspawn Razorfiends. Behind the dragonspawn creatures, a hideous goblin warrior fires off a single shot of an acid arrow.

ROUND 1

Ho-Ha--Parry-Dodge--OUCH!! Why you little . . . you'll pay for that!! You should see my friends who are about to lay the hurt on y'all!

On the move I draw my rapier. I move to the north wall, just behind the northernmost razorspawn so that I'm flanking the middle guy with Thordak. This requires 1 Acrobatics check vs. the middle guy's CMD to avoid an AoO, and an acrobatics check vs. the northern guy's CMD+5 or else I lose the move and draw from him.

Acrobatics: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (17) + 15 = 32 To move through the northern guy's space. DC=CMD+5
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (5) + 15 = 20 To avoid AoO from middle guy. DC=CMD

Hey guys, I sense something strange here.

Then I hear the combat starting yet again. Oh, great.

I call out.
Hold on all, time to speed things up.

As Bofus is playing off of Thordak's movements, I assume that he delayed until after Thordak.

I move to the square between Mantooth and Trelalalala.

Standard Action: Cast Haste and point at everyone.

You are all sped up. Thordak should get an additional attack at full BAB. Everyone also gets +1 to AC and +1 to Reflex saves and attack.

Round 1:

As the fray is joined, Edvard does not turn to words - instead to action. Moving in the wake of the others he lays eyes upon the goblin, taking in what can be seen. Drawing his focus inward he shapes it through words and action to lay a thick cloth of ill intent on the dragon rider. "Liez votre esprit et votre goût de votre objectif."

Bind your mind and taint your aim.

Delay, then move to Thordak's space, then Ill Omen on the Wyrmlord.

DMHW - should their attacks be +11/+7? Seems like if they have 2 attacks from a high BAB, it should be +11/+6 or +12/+7.

Also, everyone remember that you have a +1 AC from Haste unless it is otherwise duplicative of some other bonus you have.

______________

Since he has not yet posted, did Mantooth choose a mount or a weapon as his divine bond? I would assume he chose his sword, but see nothing on his character sheet regarding this.

Round 2

The goblin wyrmlord glares at the raiding party and begins sending rapid shots of acid arrows showering across the room. Never have you seen a goblin who could shoot with such skill.

Damage 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 + Acid Damage 2d4 ⇒ (4, 2) = 6

Thordak and Bofus both feel arrows strike them followed by a painful burning of acid!

Dungeon Master

Yes, the Blackspawn Razorfiends were suppose to be +11/+6 for their Falchions and +10/+5 for their Javelins. I was interrupted in the middle of posting and I just needed to hit send without confirming all of my numbers. Thanks for the reminder about Haste. I suspect that Saarvith's hit against Bofus may not be critical, but you would think that a natural 19 would do it!

I do not know about Mantooth's divine bond, but I would assume it to be his sword. You could ask him in the HOEV OOC thread and see if he answers. He sounds very busy at the moment, so if someone wants to post for him, that would be helpful to me. Even if he misses a round or two, there will be plenty of combat for him. We've just had three battles back to back and we are not done yet!

DMHW--two things.
1) typically extra dice of damage are not multiplied on a critical hit. Is this an exception to that rule? Should Bofus take a total of 11 damage, or 17?
2) did his firing the bow draw an AoO from Bofus? If it did . . .

Haste only gives an extra attack if you make a full attack action. Cleave only grants its extra attack if you take a standard action. This means you have to pick one--extra attack for cleave, or extra attack for haste. In this case, I opine you're better off with a full attack action, for three attacks rather than 2 with cleave.

Male Gnome Sorcerer/9 - (HP: 49/49 - AC20;FF17;T18 - F+5;R+6;W+7 - Init+9 - Per+11)

Full attack is much better with Haste. Remember, if you miss one attack with Cleave, you get no more attacks. Full Attack with Haste, you get 3 attacks with your current BAB - Full, Full, Full-5.

Attack-Magnimara-PA-Haste: 1d20 + 13 + 1 + 2 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 13 + 1 + 2 - 2 + 2 = 30
Damage: 1d8 + 7 + 2 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 7 + 2 + 4 = 19

He will then 5-foot step to B12 in preparation of facing the evil wyrmlord.

Those are some mighty lame rolls.

ROUND 3

DMHW, you missed two things.
1) can yo uconfirm whether the wymrlords' critical hit against me shoudl have been 11 damage, or 17 damage? My specific question was weather the acid damage should be multiplied, as typically extra dice of damage are NOT multiplied on a crit

2) I 5' stepped to B11 on my last action, since the razorspawn died.

3) while you missed the flanking bonus vs. me, I missed the bardsong, so that evens out, sort of. :-)

I'll 5' step one more to C11, flanking that last razorspawn with Thordak, and end him. If the first attack does kill him, the second goes after the Wyrmloard instaead (and please subtract 2 from the hit roll in that case)

Attack: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (16) + 17 = 33
Damage: 1d4 + 4 + 3d6 ⇒ (2) + 4 + (5, 1, 3) = 15

Attack: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (4) + 17 = 21
Damage: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

Dungeon Master

Critical Hit Information:

When you make an attack roll and get a natural 20 (the d20 shows 20), you hit regardless of your target's Armor Class, and you have scored a "threat," meaning the hit might be a critical hit (or "crit"). To find out if it's a critical hit, you immediately make an attempt to "confirm" the critical hit—another attack roll with all the same modifiers as the attack roll you just made. If the confirmation roll also results in a hit against the target's AC, your original hit is a critical hit. (The critical roll just needs to hit to give you a crit, it doesn't need to come up 20 again.) If the confirmation roll is a miss, then your hit is just a regular hit.

A critical hit means that you roll your damage more than once, with all your usual bonuses, and add the rolls together. Unless otherwise specified, the threat range for a critical hit on an attack roll is 20, and the multiplier is ×2.

Exception: Precision damage (such as from a rogue's sneak attack class feature) and additional damage dice from special weapon qualities (such as flaming) are not multiplied when you score a critical hit.

1) Bofus, I found it and listed it above. The acid damage will not be critical. Let's go with the 11 damage. Thanks!
2) I have moved Bofus to B11 on my battlemat. Consider him there!
3) I am not sure that the results would have changed for either of us. :-)

ROUND 3, CONTINUED

After two nasty arrow hits, I'm already looking pretty beat up. As awesome as Bofus is, his big weakness is that he's not very robust. One more solid hit and he'll be withdrawing from combat to make sure he can survive!! (current HP are accurate)

He then moves on to the wyrmlord.

DMHW: Thordak to C10, using any left-overs from the razorfiend on Saarvith please!

Trellara steps closer to the doorway and continues singing the most beautiful song that lifts your spirits despite the wicked evil attacks you.

Goblin:
"You may have destroyed the Blackspawn, but I will be back to hunt you down."

The Goblin Wyrmlord withdraws from the battle escaping out of a secret portal in the wall. He then dives into the dark water.

Round 3

• Bofus side steps between Wyrmlord and Blackspawn Razorfiend, dancing a delicate dance of evasion and stabbing! He lands a blow against the black horned creature bringing it down.

• Tirion fires off a round of Magic Missile at the Goblin Wyrmlord. The goblin is not tripped up by the magic, but he does suffer a few wounds from the arcane bolts.

• Trellara continues with her Bardic Peformance (Inspire courage +2).

• Once the razorfiend falls to the ground dead, Thordak moves past Bofus (to C10) and attacks the Wyrmlord. However, the nimble creature easily evades the swing of your axe.

With a Move and a Standard action, you are only permitted one attack, which missed.

• Mantooth hacks down the Blackspawn Razorfiend with a mighty swing of Magnimarana!

• Saarvith withdraws out a secret entrance (Wall between B9 and B10) and dives into the dark water.

Edvard:
You suddenly feel the effects of spell being cast upon you and you hear a voice speaking to you. It is enticing you go up the stairs (at H13).

Please make a will Save DC 18 to resist the effects of this charm magic.

So, he dove out of an open door, or did he have ot open it? Because I"m thinking he'd have drawn at least one AoO for that unless it was already open, no? Also, how about this weapons; did he stowe his bow befoe swinging at me? Did he drop his sword before jumping, or does he still have it?

Damn cowardly goblins! Wot now? Down in tha water? To tha cave or somethin'?

Dungeon Master

I forgot about the fact that Saarvith needs to open the door first. Bofus and Thordak may each make an AoO as the Wyrmlord tries to escape. He still has his bow, but he has dropped the great sword. Thordak, you read my mind and ninjaed me! I am not doubting you, but could you remind me what bonuses add up to give you a +20 attack?

Although the blades of Bofus and Thordak slice at the goblin, the small Wyrmlord still has a surprising amount of fortitude and jumps into the dark water, cursing as he does so.
