Temperance slashes at the southern kobold, his temple sword going snicker-snack. "They are proving to be tenacious," he says from atop the ledge.
DM Carbide |
Both Rowane and Master Temperance hit their targets, but do not drop them.
Master Temperance continues to dodge the efforts of the two kobolds attacking him. Huc is again the target of massed sling fire and takes another 2 HP plus 1 point nonlethal damage.

Temperance again swings his sword, small rings at the base of the blade clinking slightly.
"That's better," he says to himself, as the blade connects rather well against the dog-dragon-humanoid thingy.

Kobolds
With grace and skill, the gnome cuts at one of the kobolds and passes his heavy blade neatly between two of its cervical vertebrae, severing its head easily.
Arien Keyne |
Arien rushes across the small earthen bridge to the next cluster of kobolds, lobbing a flask of alchemist’s fire into their midst.

Huc's sling stone sails over the head of its target. Arien has better luck with his flask of alchemist's fire, which impacts on one of the kobolds and splashes the other two with the burning liquid. The targeted kobold goes down.
Rowane, and then the kobolds!
DM Carbide |
Rowane's bolt follows Huc's sling stone into the upper reaches of the cave, unfortunately without first passing through a kobold. The remaining slingers decide that Arien is a greater threat than the hunter, and unleash a volley on her. One hits for 2 HP. Hey, it maxed out!

”Nice!” Huc calls out encouragingly as Arien flames the trio of kobolds, then he follows her … trotting across the bridge and pulling out his own vial of fire-liquid. He points to the elf and calls out to his best friend, ”Fynn! Defend!”
[ooc]Move across the bridge, draw out alchemist’s fire. Command Fynn to Defend Arien.

Rowane and Arien, you're up!
Arien Keyne |
Temperance turns to the other kobold, his sword dripping with the ichor of its brethren. His strike is no less deadly as he aims at the other kobold.
Now THAT’s what we need!
Arien takes a step back, glaring at the two singed kobolds on the ledge above. Bursting into motion, leaps up the wall face to attempt tp scramble over the ledge and into the cramped space above.

Arien jumps up to the ledge, pulling herself up! Luckily for her, the kobolds don't have melee weapons out, so they aren't able to take advantage of her brief distraction while scrambling up.
Rowane, over to you!
Arien Keyne |
Cramped under the now-low ceiling, Arien swings her blade in a wide arc at the nearest reptilian fiend.

The two wounded kobolds near Arien drop their slings and snatch up spears, trying to stick the investigator. One manages to do so for 3 HP. The other three try to do some more damage to Huc with a smaller volley of sling stones, but none of them are effective.

Arien Keyne |
Which was your target, Rowane?
DM Carbide |
Rowane hits the kobold he shot before and drops it! Arien cuts down one of his assailants, and Huc's alchemist's fire wounds the other two kobolds on the northerly ledge.
I'm going to call it here; you defeat the remaining three without further injury to yourselves. Out of combat!
The kobolds have only their equipment and a total of 20 copper pieces between them.
Arien Keyne |
“Finally…” Arien announces with a smirk, “we can retire in luxury!” Pushing the coppers around her palm, she doles out five coins to each ally. “Don’t let it go to your heads.”
Huc. |
Huc smirks at Arien's glibness as he roughly ropes the remaining kobolds together. "Rowane," he says back to the priest as he works, "you said you speak their tongue. See if you can sweet-talk'em into tellin' us what all else waits of for us in here. I'd love to sidestep as many remaining ambushes as possible."
Then, once they're bound, he searches the room carefully, looking for anything else useful.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
DM Carbide |
There's nothing else of interest in the room.
Rowane |
Rowane approaches the captures kobolds and stares down at them.
DM Carbide |
The least wounded replies.
For all its bluster, it doesn't look very confident.
Rowane |
"They serve a dragon named Aeteparax. And of course threatening us."
Rowane gestures towards Finn.
DM Carbide |
The surviving kobolds say nothing.
Arien Keyne |
Recognizing the universal language of silence, Arien chimes in. “Well, if they won’t talk, they’re no use to us.” She draws her blade, ready to put an end to the captives.
Moving on?
DM Carbide |
They glare at the gnome.
Arien Keyne |
"Can't we...hmm...send them back to the town?"
“And what will they do with them, there? What do the other ones do, while we travel there and back again? If they embed in these tunnels, we might have to fight our way back to this very spot. If you’ve got a idea that puts them well out of our way, I’m all ears – but I won’t leave them at my back.”
Is this a moral quandary? I’m assuming we have no real way to secure them, and no way to watch them to make sure they stay that way. If you’d like to RP taking them back to the town, it’s fine by me. Do what you think is right for your PC’s motivations.
DM Carbide |
The ones remaining alive are stable and vaguely conscious, but still staggered from their wounds. A house cat would be able to drop the lot of them.
Huc. |
Huc grunts, "Let's leave'em bound and knock'em out." He shrugs at Arien uncomfortably, "I don't like killin'em cold-blooded, either, even if that's what they'd do to us."
Unless told otherwise, he goes about doing just that, clubbing the kobolds into unconsciousness one at a time.
"Ready to move on?"
Arien Keyne |
Arien grumbles something about do-gooding gnomes getting them all killed, but nods and moves ahead quietly through the tunnels ahead.

This particular group of kobolds will not trouble you further.
A little further up the tunnel, and it branches to the east and west. Arien can see a glimmer of daylight down the western branch, while the eastern branch splits again after ten or fifteen feet.
Arien Keyne |
Arien creeps forward with her new canine partner, pausing at the split in the tunnel to assess the path before them.
