Cole Hillman |
Sorry, was traveling for business early in the week. I am back now, and certainly excited about continuing. This is a great group, and you have done a great job, GM Koldoon!
Koldoon |
It seems like there's some interest in continuing. I think these discussion threads get unwieldy when they get really long, so I will probably start a new campaign recruitment thread to recruit the new players, and note in the first post that it's a continuation of this campaign. But this gives me some good lead time to start working on the maps and tokens and such. As I don't have a paid Roll20 account, I will probably simply erase the existing maps in the Roll20 game once we're done and replace them with new ones. That saves everyone from needing new invitations.
I'm still pondering what that call will look like, but I'll let you all know when it goes out so you can dot the thread, maybe introduce your characters to help new folks figure out who they want to be.
Finlogan |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Maybe you could leave a gameplay thread open for us to RP afterwards and introduce the new crew. Tending some NPC for us. It would be great to keep the momentum while we recruit.

Totally agree!! I'm sure we can find solid RP opportunities back in town, swapping tales of our adventure, and thriving on the accolades... Maybe Aldelenna can write a song about the adventure and make a few coins at the Seven Silvers!? :)
Koldoon |
I've reworked my original recruitment post for this game and posted a new recruitment thread for the Masks of the Living God. You've all already expressed interest and of course are first choices to continue. But I think we need at least one and possibly two new players to fill in the gap, so hopefully we'll find someone.
Once those players have been selected, they'll be pointed to the gameplay forum here so they can be present in town as part of the wrap up.... assuming we get anyone.
Feel free to check in on the recruitment thread if you want to contribute anything there.
Aldelenna Dusksong |
Thanks again for all your work on this GM Koldoon. It is very fun, and I can only imagine all the work that had to be done "behind the scenes" in order to convert from PF to 5e. Looking forward to adding some new recruits and heading into the next adventure!!!
Koldoon |
It looks like there's some interest for the open seats. Perhaps naively, I was worried about finding one player, but it looks like we'll be able to fill two slots.
One, I think I've selected already, but there are four more people who seem possibly interested. We'll see what gets submitted. The one I've pretty much decided to accept is planning on playing a celestial warlock... that's arcane blastery power plus some modest healing thrown in. His history looks fascinating. We'll see how that plays.
The other four are in varied stages... two have rolled stats, two only have ideas for character class.
I've reminded them that we're only picking two total. We'll see what develops from there.
Finlogan |
Good.
We've been advertising the awesomeness of this game.
Koldoon |
Lodric, welcome! This is where we get all informal and hash out the occasional rules question or practice. Also, importantly, if folks are disappearing, usually we try to note it here. Doesn't always happen, but it's helpful when it does.
The crypt seekers are at the Everflame... which is exciting, because it means that they're wrapping up. That means that soon they'll return to town, which is when we'll have our new folks (that'll be you and probably one more person yet to be determined) join in the wrap up in town.
The Masks of the Living Gods will then pick up in a new Gameplay thread, and I'll link to it at the appropriate time.
Why switching gameplay threads?
Especially early in an adventure, characters are always looking for the background information, the setup, and I find it starts to get hard to navigate a thread once you get much past 10 pages of posts.
Aldelenna Dusksong |
Welcome Lodric. :) Your warlockedness will be much appreciated, as the character we lost was an arcane caster. :)
Lodric Aegilson |
Thank you all for the warm welcome. The party does seem to have plenty of close combat.
I do say, as a warning though...Lodric has 2 spell slots per short rest. Which is to say, not much. So he's not going to be able to throw down disablers as well as a pure wizard would.

But the Eldritch Blast cantrip for Warlocks is wonderful! :)

The second half of this first adventure was very much focused on the dungeon crawl. The first bit was much more focused on role play. I'm delighted to say the second adventure, while there is combat involved here and there, is much more role play focused.
That's both good and bad. I'm hopeful some of the folks who had less opportunity for role play will get more involved. Having a couple of strong role players is good, but it can also be a bit overwhelming.
I chose it to start because it's designed with a strong party hook to gather everyone together, but it's also undead heavy once you get going. I think this next one presents some really fun opportunities and I'm looking forward to getting it started. But as you can probably tell, this current one is right on the cusp of wrapping up.
Koldoon |
It happens sometimes. Don't worry too much about it. We're here to have fun, enjoy the game, immerse ourselves in the characters and the setting. Also, I think I make at least half my gm posts as Koldoon instead of GM Koldoon, and I have to go back and edit them to change who posted... that's why I chose such a distinctive GM avatar!
Aldelenna Dusksong |
I have a crazy couple days at work. Just wanted to note it because I see some posts from yesterday and I'm not even going to have a chance to read until tomorrow at least, and maybe Wednesday.
I'll do my best to respond to those posts tomorrow. Sorry guys.
No worries whatsoever. RL always has to come first. :) We'll be here patiently waiting. Thanks for all your work done so we can enjoy ourselves. :D
Koldoon |
I've had a kinda awful week, but I'm back. That said, this is Easter for many celebrants. So I understand, certainly, if folks aren't around this weekend. I will still make some posts and folks can respond as they are able.
So in first orders of business... Welcome Hansyn! We're wrapping up play for Crypt of the Everflame in this campaign and will be moving to Masks of the Living God campaign thread for the new adventure... but I'm glad you're here, as both you and Lodric will have some opportunities as we wrap up play to introduce yourselves and get settled into the group before we move to that thread.
More later tonight after dinner.
Koldoon |
Hansyn: introducing you in Kassen as the town celebrates the quest, and awaits the return of the chosen.
Hansyn is currently at the Seven Silvers, avoiding the Vargidan compound (presumably to get dinner without getting insulted or worse for his lack of magical ability)
Feel free to respond to the post.
Lodric: Don't worry, I'll get you introduced too, probably in a post tonight.
Koldoon |
Hansyn:
5e rules for starting gold keep standard starting gold for levels 1-4, so background plus class gear.
Each of the characters in the previous adventure received a handpicked common or consumable item left in the dungeon for them by the residents of Kassen as a coming of age gift. So I think it's reasonable to include one of these as an item that you've "acquired" either from Holgast, his apprentices, or your father Moltus (perhaps one is something you nicked from one of your older brothers).
They were also gifted a potion of healing, and given how often you are on messenger duty, it might not be outside the realm of possibility for Arnama to have provided that to you herself, to make sure her messenger boy has something to fall back on if he gets hurt.
• Potion of Healing
• Cloak of Many Fashions
Wondrous item, common
While wearing this cloak, you can use a bonus action to change the style, color, and apparent quality of the garment. The cloak's weight doesn't change. Regardless of its appearance, the cloak can't be anything but a cloak. Although it can duplicate the appearance of other magic cloaks, it doesn't gain their properties.
Koldoon |
Lodric:
Hansyn's question also applies to you. You'll have to decide how you came by these items. The potion, perhaps, a worried father who is foisting you off to be someone else's problem... or perhaps his wife, concerned for you even as she cares for their infant son. The amulet may have been given as a gift by your patron. If so, consider what it that might look like and how you might wear it (openly or concealed).
As a celestial warlock, think about what/who you want your patron to be. While it may not come into play immediately, at some point knowing your patron might be helpful for interactions with Lodric.
At any rate, in addition to starting equipment, Lodric begins with:
• Potion of healing
• Dark Shard Amulet
Wondrous item, common (requires attunement by a warlock)
This amulet is fashioned from a single shard of resilient material originating from the realm of your warlock patron. While you are wearing it, you gain the following benefits:
• You can use the amulet as a spellcasting focus for your warlock spells.
• You can try to cast a cantrip that you don't know. The cantrip must be on the warlock spell list, and you must make a DC 10 Intelligence (Arcana) check. If the check succeeds, you cast the spell. If the check fails so does the spell, and the action used to cast the spell is wasted. In either case, you can't use this property again until you finish a long rest.
Hansyn Vargidan |
I was looking through the campaign info you posted on recruitment and noticed something about the wizards spellbook having some spells from SCAG. I chose a cantrip from SCAG, is that not available?
Finlogan |
Hey Koldoon. What kind of armor was Asar wearing? Anything special about the longsword?
Which items did we find were for who?
Koldoon |
Fin:
They weren't labeled, but were left by the villagers intending for them to go to particular people. Some of them did (Rankev ended up with the potion of fire breath, for instance, that he used to good effect in the final combat). I'll have to search back through the text to find the room in question. Treasure doesn't translate between editions as cleanly, especially magical treasure, so it was not a direct translation of what was in the original adventure, which called for masterwork weapons and other similar items that don't have a 5e equivalent.
My mom stopped by on her way back from visiting extended family for Easter, so I probably won't be able to check until Wednesday.
Asar was wearing +1 chainmail and wielded a +1 longsword (you can learn that from a long rest with contact with the items).
Aldelenna Dusksong |
Also regarding the disbursement of treasure. This post shows that Venssa took the scroll, and Aldelenna the flute. I've actually put the flute with the explanation spoiler on Alde's profile. Then later this post gives more information about the items after we all sat and studied them over a short rest. Aldelenna would have no problem with Fin playing such a flute to accompany her, but it seems like such an instrument would be best fitted in the hands of a bard. :)
Aldelenna Dusksong |
Venssa, you already studied the scroll during one of our short rests, so you know what it is. The spoiler for it is in that post I linked. It's a Snare Spell Scroll. :)
Aldelenna Dusksong |
I have no problem with that, Cole. :)
Koldoon |
I think the other main contender for the long sword is Fin. But he is also the only character who can even wear the magical chain mail, which is heavy armor. The chain mail would up his AC by 2 (16 armor + 1 magic + 1 defensive style + 2 shield = 20). But it also impacts his ability to be stealty, as it is heavy armor.
In the gameplay thread Fin noted that he thought Cole should get either the longsword or the armor, so I think Cole is probably safe to lay claim to it.
Finlogan |
Yes, Fin will take the chain mail. Cole should get the longsword.
I think Cole should also carry the magic horn, because he'll be sneaky and likely on point to signal us if he sees something.
I'm good with Aldelenna keeping the magic flute. It gives Fin a reason to borrow it.
