So, with all the hype trainery going on around the release of the new mythic book coming out down the road, I think there has been some confusion about they role of prophecy in it all.
The god that dies, in world, has no clear and well stated prophecy about their death floating around, much less one that is going to come true. (there might be hints of tidings of such news in one AP, stolen fate, but I don't think that exists as general information that all the heralds are heralding. The prophecies of the gods that are being "marked safe" in the blogs are all false prophesies. It is not that there is any kind of "a god is going to die" talk happening in Golarion. That is all happening here on Earth as promotional material for the book that will be released where a god dies, raining god goo down on some people, resulting in strange mythical powers.

So the metatextual reason that the age is "lost omens" where prophecy doesn't work is that Pathfinder is a roleplaying game where the players (and the dice) decide what happens, rather than "prophecy." Like if the Tyrant is prophesied to rule for 60 years of misery and darkness but the PCs just decide to murk that guy because he's a big ol' jerk, then prophecy by its very nature has to be unreliable (because the PCs could also just as easily decide "not my problem, I don't live there.)

Assurances have been given that exactly one Core20 will permanently die. So clearly there is no way that
Paizo: We are proud to introduce Skapgoet, a brand new deity, to the core 20!
Skapgoet: Uh, hi! I'm Skapgoet, and I'm so happy to *ACK*
Paizo: Oh no! Something killed Skapgoet! One of the Core20 is now dead, permanently! What a shocker!

We have SPECIFICALLY said that we are neither bringing Aroden back just to off him again, nor resurrecting the dead god at the end of things. And we also are not introducing a NEW god just to off them. Do also remember that you dont have to follow the 'canon' of our books in your own game. But I'm very excited for whats coming.

I am guessing they would want to have an interesting and compelling story to tell.
The loss of a deity the setting relies on would be compelling. The ramifications of that god’s death on the setting would only be interesting if it actually changes things. The setting as it is no longer relies in Aroden being alive and his redeath would have no real impact on the setting, that would effectively reset to where we are now.

...so that means it's possible the dead god will be resurrected in a FUTURE event.
I mean, if that's how you ring in the 2E->3E transition, you'll be pulling the exact INVERSE of a Mystra, and I'm down for that.

I mean, it's not like the core 20 couldn't use some shaking up. I see... four gods still on the in danger list that I know aren't going to be dieing since they feature prominently in Starfinder. Maybe five if you add Torag.
Honestly, the only real juicy god to die would be Rovagug. We talk about him in Starfinder, but only as a possible reason as to why Golaria is missing. It would be honestly cool if he dies, and in doing so gives us solid confirmation that the we are officially IN the Gap, since no way that happened and someone didn't write it down.

I'm being a broken record about this lately, but once again: Starfinder is its own separate canon from Pathfinder. Even aside from this specific divine death - where one of the Creative Directors shot this theory down explicitly - the two are two universes are their own things, and always have been.
