Forever? They're not going to retcon things away from stories they've already told. Anything published under the original OGL is protected by the original OGL, period. The problem is if Hasbro tries to change the OGL again, those things may not be protected for future products. The old stories will remain, the new just won't have anything that they can't publish under the ORC.

I mean, there's a fundamental difference between Choral the Conqueror is a Dragon who is red and breathes fire, and "Choral the Conqueror is a Red Dragon." A dragon needs to be some color (and indeed several different kinds of dragons will be any given color- diabolical dragons are probably largely red) and "dragon breathes fire" is like the basic thing people know about Dragons besides "big winged lizard."
But Dragons should probably be rare enough that it's not a bad idea to stat each of them out as individuals.
I'd love unique dragons. Now that would set Pathfinder's dragons apart. Doesn't seem like we're getting them, though.

Paizo's made a point of letting WotC develop the more intensely dragon-themed material. It's a mix of professional courtesy and dragons having long been D&D's shtick. Pathfinder...found its own path. :-)

Were manticores winged lions with human faces that had spikey tails?

I think the latter is actually a pretty common mythological reading, but I could be wrong.
