Handwraps. What are they really?

Pathfinder Second Edition General Discussion

Given the large variety of unarmed attacks at this point in the life of 2E, the flavor of simple handwraps can only go so far to explain how one would magically amplify some of the more special unarmed attacks like foxfire or sprite spark. I'd like to hear some of the ways people have flavored handwraps to fit characters specific attacks, be it jaws, tails, legs, or magic eye beams.

I haven't done it, but I think it would be completely amusing to have them be one of those springy antenna headbands.

I just imagine handwraps infusing magic into the body through the almost ritualistic process of putting them on. I sometimes just imagine them as belts, even, if it fits my vision of the character better.

Depending on the character I flavor them differently. Regular handwraps, gloves, a headband, a belt, feet bandages... They can be whatever, really.

Clothing is the usual choice, objects can be fun to rationalize too. I'm running a foxfire thaumaturge currently. I decided on a censor that burns magical incense to transfer rune effects to foxfire.

Pretty much this. I suppose it's not appropriate for all characters but my first thought when I think of someone using handwraps is a monk, and I like the image of them slowly and ritualistically wrapping up their arms and prepping their equipment, the magic flaring on the item and sinking into their body.

Sovereign Court

I dig that. It's a bit like someone taping a couple of injured fingers together before a rugby match.

The flavor in the book implies the ritualistic wrapping interpretation, though if you dont like the pugalist aesthetic and are at a table thats cool with reskinning things, go ham.

My kitsune courtesan reskins them as elaborate arm/hand jewelry with magic jewels that amplify their foxfire

If you find this hard to fathom, don't look into doubling rings ;) :p

Wrap up all four limbs, feet and hands, the magic goes through the body to connect all four(maybe five of you want to include the head with a headband or similar) and thus connects with all your chakras to infuse your body with magic. That's how I see it working with all the non fist attacks we have.

If someone looks at you with detect magic you might even look like you have "the glow" from The Last Dragon. Magic coats your whole body to make your hits land better and stronger.

I’m liking this just for the The Last Dragon reference.
